Ooooh a lot of different characters, favorite character bias goes to Sycamore, Dexio, Sina, and Valerie but honestly i also find it kind of crazy to me that Clemont didn't make an appearance in the game.

Not gonna lie I was hoping to see Beauty Nova again. Though for all we know she could be one of the random NPCs standing around town saying something ridiculous to nobody in particular. Or maybe she went back to her former black belt ways and is one of the ladies in the Fist of Justice.

Clemont who is weirdly absent in the city he used to be a gym leader in and Diantha who could’ve at least had a cameo or something as an actress.

Like others have said, Clemont and Bonnie are odd absences. I did find an NPC who says something like "I wonder if that young Gym Leader has invented anything new lately?", which would imply that Clemont is still a Gym Leader...maybe he took a position in a different city/town when Prism Tower closed down and Bonnie went with him?

Sina and Dexio being absent is also a bit strange, given they were pretty proactive when the Team Flare plot was happening. I suppose the most likely possibility is that they're with Professor Sycamore, wherever he went after leaving the lab.

All of them ahaha. Nah but fr, it'd have been cool to see a majority of these guys again and see what they are up to, see how the League changed etc. but I'm aware that's beyond the scope of what a Lumiose centric game could entail. In that regard, I think we already got lucky with how many characters already returned.

With that in mind though, I think my vote is Olympia and Valerie. My two favorite Kalos League members and it'd be cool to see how they've changed. Valerie's little modeling poster cameo was a really cool shoutout at least.

I also couldn't vote for them being limited to 2, but Serena and Calem. They've basically never revisted a protagonist in a mainline game since Red, though they probably intentionally avoid that now. Still would've been cool to see to truly go full circle as a Kalos revisit.

Well... at least the Lumiose City residents like Clemont, Bonnie and Trevor (And Tierno by proxy of him opening up a dancing studio and then have Shauna show up too visiting them at least).

Alexa should also show up as a reporter in Lumiose City. Which means we can also get Viola by extension, her visiting her sister - odd that Alexa isn't an option in the poll and in this capacity, Malva could have shown up too, although i can imagine her being fired from the position, being a Team Flare member and all. Grant could have shown up too, with a story section about fossils.

Sycamore should be there as well (Sina and Dexio not showing up makes kinda sense, considering they are Kalos Super Heroes and assistants to Sycamore, so he can send them off to do research for him).

However, what they should have done is make a battle facility in Lumiose City with the traditional battle style where we can challenge the Gym leaders post-game with their respective Mega Evolutions (Viola with Mega Beedrill, Grant with Aerodactyl, Korrina with Mega Lucario, Clemont with Mega Ampharos, Ramos with Mega Venusaur, Valerie with Mega Mawile, Olympia with Mega Alakazam, Wulfric with Mega Abomasnow). After we have defeated the Gym Leaders, we can fight the Elite 4 (Drasna with Mega Garchomp, Siebold with Mega Blastoise, Malva with Mega Charizard Y and Wikstrom with Mega Scizor)

Looker would have been a nice addition too, although my personal headcanon isHe is the dude next to the Volo outfit, being in disguise.

Calem and Serena not showing up makes sense too, because they don't wanna canonize one of them as the main protag (Which they kinda did regardless in the museum, but still).

I'd have loved to see Serena/Calem and the friend trio grown up and Clemont because we're in his gym city....yet, he's nowhere to be seen, wtf.

Pretty much everyone, don't get why they cut 90% of the characters. They could have at least given them cameos in the Infinite Z-A Royale in the postgame.

Shauna is my favorite of the original XY gang, so her.

Malva would've been interesting given her role in the E4 and media and Team Flare connections mean there was some fallout and obvious connections to Nouveau.

Since they weren't listed, I wanted to see the madomoselles of the Battle Chateau again, they seemed like a cool if flatly characterised bunch.

Honestly, I think at minimum we should have had the Lumiose residents (Clemont, Bonnie, Alexa, etc.) as well as Sina & Dexio. There's a couple of more that would have been nice to have as well, though I can see why some of those might not have been a priority for Game Freak to add. I personally have a hierarchy of characters that I think shoulve've appeared or would have been nice to have appeared based on their importance to Lumiose City as a whole:

1. Clemont & Bonnie: They are essentially associated with Lumiose City throughout the franchise, so just not having them appear without any explanation is just baffling. However, I would settle with Canari actually Bonnie's streaming persona; her childhood photo looks like Bonnie a bit too much for it to not art least have been inconsideration at one point in development. It'd be an interesting look into how she changed over the years and would fit with Lida being Tierno's sisterin that she'd be a sibling of a previous character that takes a more prominent role in the plot. It would also make Tarragon Clemont's grandfather, explaining why his construction team is part of Lumiose's renovation when Clemont should have been the one involved: it's essentially a family business! At the very least Canari should have been confirmed as Clemont's cousin or something.
2. Sina & Dexio: They aren't confirmed residents of Lumiose, but they've got the whole "Defenders of Kalos" thing going on. Don't you think they should've been investigating the fact a bunch of Pokémon suddenly occupying Lumiose and the whole Rouge Mega Evolution thing? I mean Sycamore retired, so it isn't like they're busy being his assistants anymore. At the very least they should've been in the post game to question Team MZ on Quasartico, Inc. regarding what just happened. There's also the fact that they were previously researching Zygarde in Alola, meaning given them even more reason to be involved. Maybe they could even be helping L with redemption!
3. Alexa: Her photography job in Lumiose and minimal role as a guide in XY would have made her a perfect fit for this game, perhaps trying to do investigative journalism on the Rouge Mega Evolutions.
4. Malva: She's an ex Team Flare member, but that wasn't really explored that well in XY proper. It would be fun to see her reaction to events like Mable being a Pokémon Professor, Nouveau Café/Team Flare Nouveau, or even reconnecting with L/Lysandre. However, she ultimately isn't an essential character to have return. I would have personally had her be involved with either overseeing Team Flare Nouveau or being a simple low-level server to humble her a bit, but that's just a personal preference as to have Malva take accountability.
5. The other Team Flare scientists: If Mable got to be expanded upon, I think it would have been ultimately interesting to see what Aliana, Bryony, & Celosia were up to as well. In fact, they should have been working with Mable in grand scheme of things. Xerosic would also be interesting to see given his past history with Emma. However, their presence ultimately isn't needed for the plot so I can kind of excuse their absence.
6. Trevor: While his presence isn't strictly needed per-se, he is still a resident of Lumiose City that doesn't have an excuse to be gone like Tierno and Sycamore so he ranks just one notch higher than those two. Maybe give him a role in the Mega Raichu side quest in the DLC.
7. Sycamore & Tierno: Sycamore retiring is an expectable change and Tierno's absence was at least explained (we also got his sister as his stand-in so his role is essentially covered for). While it would be nice to see them post game, I'm fine with their absence given that they were ultimately explained and wouldn't have affected the plot.

Ultimately, I think the bare minimum for the plot should have been Clemont, Bonnie, Sina, Dexio, and Alexa. Anyone else would just be a nice cameo to have.

Also big agree that it would have been cool to see other gym leaders show up in the Infinite Royale. Especially Clemont or Valerie as they get brief namedrops and visual cameos (Valerie even has her own fashion label now ahhhhhh.)

also aware this was only a blink and you might miss it namedrop in xy, but i would have loved to see blue oak show up for real in lumiose lol.

I think honestly out of all them, I don't think I really want to have seen any of them since I wasn't a fan of a lot of XY characters. Maybe Valerie could've work as a visiting model to Lumoise.

I really wanted to know how public perception of Diantha has changed since XY in-universe considering the mixed opinions on her by the fanbase (in-universe, she effectively abandon the region during the Ultimate weapon) but any opinions of her were glossed over after Ansha and Korrina revealed her being the former's mother (with only Korrina seeming to remember her fondly though she doesn't seem like the type to hold grudges or bad opinions on people). I feel like more public comments should be made about her when her one known pupil is more criminal than the Rust Syndicate and says a lot about her own character if Jacinthe is the type of person she's okay with.

Like the game seriously seems to ignore mentioning the Kalos League, so I wonder if something has changed in universe about it or public perception is so poorly negative that talking about the league in public is taboo. Like the League failed big time with Team Flare in XY, so what happened?

I think a weird thing the DLC could've done with Hyperspace is have the past versions of Lysandre and AZ with battle options (or AU options if Hyperspace connected to Ultraspace somehow), to see how far they come and changed. With Lysandre still with Team Flare and causing issues with his old team as best as possible, and AZ with Mega Evolution now as a battle option (either Mega Golurk if it's him without Floette or an AU with him and Mega Floette).

I'm kind of surprised that Professor Sycamore wasn't on the list of options to vote for. While I do think that they explain why Mable became the acting Pokemon Researcher, it still felt so strange to not having Professor Sycamore anywhere in Lumoise City. It would have been nice to see him again. The message his younger self wrote on that bench was one of those small moments in X/Y that really stood out to me. Plus, it would have been interesting to see him interact with L.

I did vote for Clemont since not having him around when he lives in Lumoise and is the Gym Leader felt so baffling. Considering that he is an inventor, you'd think that he'd be all over the plans to redevelop Lumoise City. There is a sign saying that the Lumoise Gym was closed, so maybe he was just away while the redevelopment plan was going, but much like Professor Sycamore, it just felt weird to not have him in the game when he lives in Lumoise City.

Despite how annoyed I was at Malva's little screentime in X/Y and Mable's role, I hadn't really factored in her being in this game. I think that would have been potentially interesting given the aftermath of Team Flare affecting multiple characters and the events of X/Y being the rationale for the Lumoise City redevelopment plan, but at the same time, I think it kind of worked out. I don't know if they would have been able to do much with her with Grisham, Griselle and L working pretty well to cover the Team Flare aftermath.

As cool as it would have been to see Calem/Serena in a way, I'm not surprised that they didn't go that route. I don't think that they are particularly popular among the playable characters/rivals. Plus, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't want to feature other playable characters aside from Red. It would have been a good way to potentially get some insight into how Kalos as a whole has changed or at least what the Kalos League is currently like.

I initially thought that we would have more Gym Leaders coming to Lumoise City to take part in the ZA Royale. In retrospect, that might have been expecting too much, especially when it does make sense to have new characters living in Lumoise City to take part in the storyline and effectively take the role of Gym Leaders in the game. It would have been cool to see them as some more post-game battles. I certainly would have preferred seeing couple of Gym Leaders instead of battling the generic NPC in the Infinite ZA Royale and again, it could given us insight into how much Kalos changed. Bringing in eight Gym Leaders, four Elite 4 members, Diantha and/or Calem/Serena would have been too much. Since Korrina does come back in the DLC at least, having Olympia and/or Wulfric come back in the main storyline could have been interesting, especially with Olympia's visions.

That's okay. He does get a couple of pictures in Mabel's office. I thought that they were cute ways to give him a nod, but not being in the game at all still felt like such a strange decision to me.
