The Premise of the Story:

Inspired by the Symphony of Ages series (of which I am reading the first book, Rhapsody), I think I've found a way to work Lyra into Yoso (and get back into that world at the same time)

She is a minstrel, but unlike Brock, does not seek to unleash Rainbow Symphony to avenge a fallen mentor. In fact, Rainbow Symphony is the last thing on her mind. While she does know how to sing magic, she mainly uses it for self defense and special effects in tales. But she does have a talent typically seen only in clerics that learn to sing magic--singing in the holy tongue. As such, she is often asked to escort adventuring parties--for a fee.

Blair and Whitlea, meanwhile, meet up with Lyra when she performs in a tavern in Sefiro (the counterpart to Nacrene City in Yoso), where they ask her to travel with them to the remote temple of Kuroshiro, where they are tasked with awakening the divine fox-dragon Reshiram. At the same time, the fallen archmage Taoreta (the counterpart to Ghestis in Yoso) seeks to awaken the underworld's own fox-dragon, Zekurom, and destroy Yoso in a storm of black thunder.

Can Lyra use her gift of holy song to awaken Reshiram in time?

How does this tie into Magic of a Melody and The Traveler's Tales?

The short answer: It doesn't.

The long answer: This is set about ten to fifteen years before those stories, and so by the time they begin, this story would be well known. I also wanted to try writing in an established world (Yoso) with a different set of characters and a new plotline.

Meet Lyra

Cheerful and laid back, Lyra desires nothing more than to make people happy with her songs and stories. However, her deep faith prompted Anima to bless her with the gift of singing in the holy tongue. Before long, adventurers came from far and wide asking for her protection. Not one to back down from an opportunity, she decided to make escorting adventurers and other travelers a full time job. Her fees are reasonable, but the more dangerous the journey, the higher the price. Some think her let things be attitude means she is lazy and fails to take initiative; but in actuality, she has to know whether an opportunity would be worth her while first.

Her joyful personality hides the shrewd businesswoman and the skilled tactician she can be. Alongside her crowned Marill, Kawa (who has an Archmage's Circlet), she isn't afraid to go to any lengths to protect those she loves.

But little does she know that the mage and the warrior she meets in Sefiro will lead her on her biggest adventure yet!

Current equipment and gear:

Wise Divinity's Flute (her instrument of choice), Elemental Dancer's Harp

Mystic Rapier (her weapon of choice)

Coin bag (has about fifty silver coins inside)

Food bag (has various berries, some bread loves and cheese for her and Kawa

Camping gear

Meet Kawa

Energetic and still very much an Azurill at heart, life is just one big adventure for Kawa. His inquisitive nature often gets him into trouble, but his master Lyra is there to protect him if his own spells fail. Sometimes, he can be so wrapped up in exploring the world around him, he fails to notice if any danger is in front of him. Despite this, he is fiercely protective over Lyra, and loves her very much, despite her constantly having to keep him by her side so he doesn't wander off.

Known spells

Bubbling Spray

Dancing Leaves

Petit Bolt

Colorful Spark (to protect himself from Grass Pokemon)

Meet Blair

Calm and softspoken, Blair is like most typical mages--he reads a lot, practices his spells, and brews potions in between teaching apprentices in his home lodge of Avenitia, which is guarded by Reshiram. The mages of Avenitia say that a great archmage summoned Reshiram long ago to save Yoso, but the reason why is up to many interpretations. No matter who Reshiram actually fought, it is said that Reshiram will choose another mage from Avenitia if the world is ever in danger. But Blair has long dismissed the tale as mere legend, unaware that Reshiram is about to send him and his closest friend Whitlea on the adventure of a lifetime.

Very logical in nature, Blair often needs convincing that some legend or story is real, which often causes him to miss out of the big picture. But it takes his loyal Snivy Tane and a very special minstrel to learn that not everything can be explained...and some things you just have to see to believe!

Current equipment and gear:

Illuminated Goddess' Bow (his weapon of choice)

Saefleita

Food bag

Coin purse

a copy of "The Archmage's Guide to Herbs"

a copy of "1001 Potions of All Effects"

a copy of "Words of the Gods: A Manual of the Holy Tongue"

Other books and scrolls

Meet Tane

Tane is the polar opposite of her master, Blair. While he has to have evidence to believe in myth and legend, Tane believes that many tales in Yoso are real, and often will have long (yet civil) debates with her master on the subject. Meticulous in detail, she is sometimes afraid to admit she is wrong. Her quiet and friendly demeanor have made her well liked in the lodge, but little does she know of the adventure awaiting them that will change her master's life forever

Known spells:

Sunshine Beam

Dreamer's Dust (from the Archmage's Crclet she wears)

Dancing Sakura

Seed Bomb

Leaf Blade

Magical Leaf

Meet Whitlea

A guardswoman originally from Austra, Whitlea came to Sefiro to escape the bustle of the big city. Since the mages of Avenitia often travel to Sefiro, she and Blair became fast friends. Firm yet calm, she's one of the first guards the people turn to in an emergency. Despite her stoic appearance on patrol, she does have a silly side, and isn't afraid to lighten the mood when the going gets tough.

Currently carrying:

Serenity's Sword (her weapon of choice)

Holy Knight's Bow (for hunting and if she can't fight up close)

Victor's Horn (used as a signal)

Coinpurse

Food bag

The Legend of Reshiram

(as performed by Lyra)

The demon lord is on the move
Bringing grief and mush despair
Ye that wields the gods' power,
Awaken the white firefox fair!

Though the underworld hath power of the storm
Reshiram's holy flame
Driveth back the demon lord
Our eternal peace to claim

A thousand years have passed since then,
And Reshiram doth sleep again.
But should she ever need to rise
To save Yoso from its demise
A new mage she shall call

The chosen one, with powers blessed
Shall travel on an epic quest
Across the entire world they'll scour
For eight magic crystals of power

When all are at the hilltop den,
Reshiram will awake again
And use her shining scared fire
To light the demon lord's pyre

But the chosen one will not travel alone
For a singer of magic is with him.

Lyra's Incantations

Unlike Brock, Lyra uses her gift of singing in the holy tongue to cast spells. While they look like gibberish to the common person, the first word of the incantation is a clue to what kind of spell she wants to cast:

Jao-fire
Rou-water
Karuto-wind
Imultao-earth
Emyina-light
Icheni-ice
Marelen-darkness
Pena-lightning
Do-every element

Lyra's Spells

Unlike most Song Magic (and magic in general on Yoso), Lyra's spellsongs are all in the holy tongue, as mentioned earlier. Some spells of the same type share similar spellsongs, but not every spell of that type has the same spellsong.

Some examples:

"nes chiel com yutuul" is a defensive spellsong, and can do anything from forming shields (its most common use) to turning the singer (and any allies) invincible for a short time

"hoda vyfre" is a spellsong that enchants arrows with elemental energy

"Iichiida shou" is a command to fly (if the target is in the air) or move faster (if on land).

"Eani", a holy word for "blade", appears in the family of spells that enchants swords and other blades with elemental energy.

To Be Updated....
