Who do you see as Hau's starter?

Who do you see as Hau's ideal starter?

From what I've seen, Hau's the first rival in a while to have no overwhelming consensus on who people headcanon as his starter Pokemon. This is not only because of how unconventional he is, being the only main rival in the series to pick the starter weak against you, but also because his design doesn't really click with any of the three. So I'd like know what you think, from an objective viewpoint, is the starter that fits Hau the best?
 
I don't think I have a particular preference, but Incineroar makes too much sense for Kukui, and I think the protagonist looks especially good with Rowlet, so I guess that leaves Hau with Popplio by default.

That being said, I don't think Kukui = Decidueye, Hau = Incineroar, Protagonist = Primarina looks too bad either.

EDIT: Nah yeah you know what, I like that second one better.

I consider my (and the MC by extension) 'canon' starter to be Litten, which means Hau will have Rowlet, and Kukui will have Primarina. Rowlet isn’t too bad with Hau, but Primarina and Kukui have a stark contrast, but that contrast might make for a lot of lol moments if my categorisation is taken as canon.
 
My headcanon starter for Sun/Moon is Incineroar, because 1) I believe it's the one that fits the concept of Sun/Moon the most, being a Fire-type whose Z-Move is Malicious Moonsault and 2) they have Ash-Greninja/Wishiwashi and Alolan Exeggutor as they're gifts/forced encounters, which means they got Grass and Water covered while Fire isn't.

This would leave Hau with Rowlet, and I'm fine with it.

This is very similar to my own headcanon regarding the subject at hand, thus I agree with your statement 100%. And besides, the Rowlet line is known for being calm and somewhat scatterbrained, which, in my opinion, fits Hau pretty well, due to his calm and somewhat scattered nature (especially once his favorite food gets into the mix). So, in short, I feel the Rowlet line suits him best compared to the other two starters, while Litten fits the protag best in my opinion.
 
I've always associated Incinerorar with Kukui because Incineroar to me is the Masked Royal's heel counterpart. Even though it's not really in the series, I agree with @SerenaToAlola that the Pichu/Alolan Riachu line feels the best fit for Hau.
 
Interesting, interesting.

I've always associated Hau with the Popplio line, for several reasons. The major reason is because his jovial, energetic personality fits Popplio the most-we've seen in both in-game animation and the anime that Popplio can be a jolly species. Litten is too aloof and distant while Rowlet is calm and nocturnal. Like tends to attract like, thus I would imagine Hau would pick Popplio because of how it stands out in that regard compared to the other starters. I also feel like Hau is someone who would enjoy having Popplio blow bubbles for fun, as well as being someone who swims in Alola's oceans often- a Water type starter accentuates that well.

I also think he fits Brionne and Primarina, by extension, pretty well too. Primarina is easily the most friendly looking of the final starter evolutions-such kindness matches Hau's default expression 99.9% of the time. They're a perfect match! Bonus points as well because Primarina has an advantage against Fighting types, which is what Hau's grandfather specializes in. Hau's main goal is to surpass his grandfather-thus what better Pokemon to do that with out of the Alolan starters? He was already thinking ahead :D

Lastly, since my starter is always Rowlet, Hau by default always gets Popplio. That reinforced things for me, and thereby made the two my headcanon in terms of partners.

It's true Decidueye's Ghost typing makes Fighting type moves completely ineffective (provided Foresight isn't in play), and that Decidueye gets some Flying coverage (and while it is in the Rowlet and Dartrix stage, it actually can hit Fighting types super-effectively with STAB!).

But it ultimately isn't as effective as Primarina in terms of dealing with Fighting types, since Primarina actually gets STAB super-effective moves to combat them. However I see your point though and I guess it can indeed work in that sense, if we're going for general advantages against Fighting types and all.
 
Hm I voted Rowlet cause somehow I just think Decidueye's appearance fits him, but after reading Alola's post I agree that Popplio fits him best actually, in terms of personality.

Also agreed that Incineroar fits Kukui best, so that leaves Decidueye for the protagonist which I think actually fits them fine, as they're both silent :p
 
I associate Rowlet/Decidueye with the protagonist, largely because Rowlet's my usual pick for SuMo. Also, Popplio's happy-go-lucky, friendly nature fits Hau the best of the three.

If we go by the 'rules', if Rowlet is Hau's Starter, wouldn’t that make Litten the main character's starter, and Kukui would end up with Popplio?

P.S.- I'd love it if Pichu was added as an option to the poll. Even though it’s not a formal starter, it’s almost like one for Hau imo.

I think the point of this thread is more 'which of the three starter Pokémon fits Hau most' instead of literally which mon he started with though.
