Who do you think is/was the most bada** character(s) in the anime?

Basically that character(s) in the show that put viewers on the edge by their antics, characteristics, battle-style, personality, etc.

For me it would have to be Pokemon Hunter J. That woman knows what she wants and goes after it no matter what. All in the name of the Almighty Dollar. Seriously, shes tried to KILL Ash not just get him out of the way.

One would think Team Galactic especially Cyrus would outrank her since he was about a new world but seriously, the guy was a bit unstable. The reason J is #1 for me is that she's calm and collected and doesn't let little things get in the way of her goals. Not to mention she has some awesome Pokemon especially her Salamence. That thing held its own against Regigigas. Took Flash Cannon, and 2 Zap Cannons at the same time from Brandon's Regi-team and was still airborne and well I just love that Pokemon and her Drapion!

She took on Ash and Gary at the same time! I mean her technology and her willingness to literally leave a man behind to get her goal is something else. And her "death" had to be something the show isn't really common in showing in terms of a person being "killed" off. Seriously, would love to see her make a comeback by some means of surviving the explosion.

Paul is my favorite and in a sense he is like the "J" version of a trainer in a sense he goes after power and wins at all costs, but not so much in terms of stealing. J catches Pokemon of value like Paul catches them in terms of power. I could go on but I want to hear your thoughts!

That's my pick, what about yours?

In the beginning Gary was pretty up there, he always had something to say but then as time went on he seemed to become more timid, is that just me or is that actually how it is?

Paul was always arrogant too, I never really liked him.

Yep that's Gary MOTHERFU**IN' Oak is haha. He gradually calmed down after the Indigo League and would throw in a snotty comment to piss off Ash whenever they met but nowhere near how he was pre-Indigo League.

I really wish we could have seen more of him before he went off to follow in his gramps footsteps. That is why Paul is "better" in terms or rivals because the writes did with him what they should have done with Gary: More screen-time, more rival battles with Ash, epic league match not saying that the one with Gary wasn't but the Sinnoh league match was WAY better, etc.

I wouldn't say timid but just more mature, I really wish would have kept on being a trainer but still that's the way of the show everyone goes off and "grows up" doing a good career whether it is doctor, gym leader or researches while Ash is still 10 and chasing a dream.

Brock, definitely. With his apron and his berry-eating bonsly, he's sure to go down in history as the most bad*** trainer in all the history of the pokemon anime.

Evil Sabrina was pretty badass. Turning people to dolls and basically keeping them as slaves? Doing the same to her mother?

Nice one! I thought of her more as a psycho than anything else and hey she may have done her mother a favor, seems like she didn't age at all while being a doll. I noticed how her dad is obviously aged, so she gave her "eternal youth" for a few years!

Tyson. He has a Metagross a Sceptile and his own absurbly powerful unevolved pokemon to match Ash's pikachu. Also he has cool battle lust rather than a hot one and one killer coat.

Hunter J takes the cake for sure. I mean she just doesn't give a flying fat rat's ass about anything and is just one of the most cold hearted characters I have yet to see.

When I saw the title of this thread, two characters immediately came to my mind.

King of Pokelantis, and Hunter J.
allow me to explain.

Hunter J is badass, as she is one of of the few villains that actually tried to KILL Ash. Villains like that rarely(or never) come into the series. Plus she had some cool technology. and she didn't give a shit about anyone. I didn't get to see much of DP, but what I saw of her...
Just. Awesome.
However, it's implied that she's dead, so we won't see her again (sadly)

And then there is the King of Pokelantis. Now this dude is my definition of TOTAL BADASS. He didn't try and kill Ash, but he took control of his body. Plus, the king is a purely evil soul, and you can't kill what's already dead. Not only is he immortal, but Ash had NO access to his Pokemon while possessed, with an obvious lack of control of his own body. It's like, the ultimate mind control, but still being aware, and the controller could just taunt you or something. That's pretty awesome/evil.
Plus, we don't know his current location. Sure he's in the stone orb, but does Brandon have the orb? was it place back inside the ruins? I find the former to be more likely, so I can hope that someone stole the stone orb from him and got possessed and it hunting down Ash.
And if the king returned to the series, stronger that his previous appearance, and wanted revenge, SWEET JEBUS ASH IS SCREWED.
Sadly, he was just a COtD, it's highly unlikely for him to return again, but if he did...
MY BRAIN WOULD EXPLODE and I would fangirl to an extreme.
I'm kinda rambling here, but maybe you get the idea.

Hunter J because she wanted to actually murder Ash. Too bad she was only in a couple episodes before, you know...DYING

Well you see that's kind of why I liked her a lot more. Don't get me wrong I would have loved to see her in more episodes. Because if they did it too much then she would probably have become a bit stale (not as much as TR mind you). Whenever she made the scene her presence just turned a happy go lucky sort of episode into one you just HAD to sit down and watch all the way through.

One story line in particular that I would have loved to see was Ash and Paul having to face her together. Imagine J seeing Chimchar's Blaze Power firsthand from a distance and decided to catch it to sell on the market (or like Paul catch it for her own personal uses because of its power). Bringing to two rivals having to work together in order to achieve a common goal.

I mean how badass of a character do you have to be for the writers to see no other way to take you down than to bring about your supposed (or pretty sure it happened) DEATH? Seriously, that's how good she was and if she came back that would either increase her badassness to another level or show that the writers can revive the dead like the Dragonballs...

Ok, the only reason I'd like to see her comeback is if the writers had a LEGIT reason for her escaping. Probably like a private getaway vehicle that she jumped into at the last second before the ship exploded to escape and she has been "underground" so to speak in order to replenish her forces before she began the hunt once again. (Kind of sounds like Goku escaping Namek at the last second before it exploded in one of the Ginyu's ships...but oh well sounds good enough to me!).

Lara Laramie. My default answer for everything. If it weren't for that broken arm, she would have wrecked shit.

Watching "Chim-Charred" as I write this I'm going to have to add Blaze-powered Chimchar to this list. Seriously, when they monkey cut loose he didn't care who he attacked. Chimchar took out Ursaring in one shot with Flame Wheel after easily knocking aside Focus Blast, then almost struck Ash and then Paul with Flame Wheel, caused a forest fire, and bit Ash in the shoulder.

Let's not forget he beat a group of Zangoose in one strike, they never showed what happened to those Zangoose (wonder if they died...) or just got knocked off the cliff they were on...

If that's not badass I don't know what is, or just straight monkey style crazy...

Was watching DP Battle Dimension DVDs this morning and Saturn's Toxicroak! The way it beat the crap out of Crogunk was something else. Knocking through a glass ceiling and then jumping down on its grounded opponent with a Poison Jab was just badass.

Was there any doubt?

I also think Hunter J is the most badass anime character, considering what I believe defines "badass". Basically the same reasons as Paulisthebest

Paul and (in some cases) Ash. Absolutely reminds me of a WCW heel. Just ridiculous that the writers couldn't make a character to top both...

For me Ash's #1 badass moment was in the 1st movie when he emerges from the smoke with all of the original Pokemon and says something along the lines of "...I won't let you." It was after Mewtwo said something about destroying the earth and making it all over full of clones. Then Ash comes out that was the most memorable scene from the movie for me.
