Who else would like Gen V to be more challenging?

I thought HeartGold and SoulSilver were way too easy.

I'd like to see a more challenging, longer storyline.

What do you think?

I would. I more advanced storyline would be cool, but I'm not expecting it. I still love the games tho.

I thought Hg/SS to be quite hard. I only beat it within about a month because I played way too often.

But then agian, I thought Platinum was tough.

Challenge is for the Battle Frontier. I prefer a main game where I can swap party members in and out to test out new moves and abilities.

No, I want it to be so easy I can beat it within a day with the champion's pokemon not going over level 30.

It would be nice if it would be more difficult then sending my overly powered starter out and just demolishing everything that gets in my way

Yeah. While we're at it, let's make the champion's pokémon Lv. 100 and lower the catch rate of all pokemon by 90%

when have the games ever been overly easy? I mean, they aren't super difficult but they're challenging enough to make people struggle.

...gym leaders and Legendaries are the real threats in the games. But I wouldn't mind if the storyline was, like, 2-3 times longer!

Higher levels mean nothing unless you want to pull a Red and jump from the last gym leader being in the low 60's to an end-game champion in the 80's. Proper distribution takes care of that threat and higher levels only create the illusion of difficulty. Better AI would work, as long as Game Freak doesn't think that increasing the hax for NPC is a good idea.

I would like slightly higher difficulty. For those new to the games or are young, a little boost in difficulty would easily be surmountable with some leveling.

A bit harder would be nice. D: Like, spread out the levels! Let the Gym Leaders be more than a bit of a joke! Something like this...

Gym Leader 1: 15-21
Gym Leader 2: 26-31
Gym Leader 3: 32-40
Gym Leader 4: 41-49
Gym Leader 5: 50-55
Gym Leader 6: 57-62
Gym Leader 7: 65-70
Gym Leader 8: 71-74

Elite Four 1: 75-80
Elite Four 2: 81-85
Elite Four 3: 86-90
Elite Four 4: 91-94
Champion: 95-99

......huh, looking at this, this might be overkill. 8D; But then, no one could complain that the game is "too easy".

The E4 and Champ should be at a certain level. If any of your pokemon are above that level, all of their pokemon would also be at that level.

EDIT: This would prevent people from training just one pokemon and would encourage them to train all. To give the players an introduction to this format, Gym Leaders should also be in the same format.

Gym 1: 15
Gym 2: 20
ETC.

Higher levels alone do not make the game harder. It only takes you more time to level grind to the same level.

While I would like if the whole game was a bit longer with the champion being around level 70-75 (depending on what is post-E4), it wouldn't make it harder, just more tedious.

And remember, you can make it as hard as you want. For example:

-You can try to beat the game with a non-balanced team
-Being constantly x levels under leveled
-Don't stick with the same team but refresh it after each gym battle with newly caught pokemon
-Don't learn your pokemon the most powerful moves
etc.

This was a terrible idea in Ogre Tactics, it was a terrible idea in Final Fantasy Tactics, and it will remain a terrible idea in any game you could put it in. Gaming the system is neither fun nor something anyone should expect children (the primary audience of pokemon games, as some people seem to forget) to do just to see the end credits.

CREATING difficulty just means the games aren't hard enough. The reason why HG/SS were easy was because the levels of their Pokemon were low. I felt at no point in the game did I have to stop and grind to level up to be ok to fight anyone. It was as difficult as it could be for me, because I did it all so underlevelled, but I did it, and it wasn't too bad. Before I had a complete team, I even levelled other Pokemon to make sure my Pokemon on my team didn't get to too high of a level. Ridiculous.

So yeah, higher levels DOES make it harder, but they also need to be realistic. Johto [the region] is ridiculously short, so they had to be lower levelled to compensate, I understand that. Kanto and Sinnoh I feel do it properly, as far as levels go. [More important that levels though... AI could be improved]

This doesn't make it harder at all if the level distribution of the wild Pokemon matches. Despite the much lower levels in GSC and HgSs, the gym leaders weren't unusually easy compared to the other games.

Again, level ups mean nothing and only create an illusion of difficulty. The real difficulty lies in AI.

Johto wasn't much shorter than Kanto was and the distribution there was fine. It wasn't because the region was short but because they had to factor in another 8 gyms without having to overlevel them. Yeah, the Kanto leaders were even easier, but being a league champion, that should be expected.

So... more challenging. How, exactly?

Limited item usage per battle?
Pokemon obedience based on happiness rather than Badges?
No more move tutors?
Loss of EXP for every white out?
No saving indoors?
An impossible level grind after every Gym?
Pirate Tentacools that steal your money on the open seas?

Frightening. Don't know about you guys, but I like playing my games in a relaxing manner. Give me the challenging stuff at the end of the game, and make it optional (hello there, Battle Frontier!)

There's no need to artificially increase the 'challenge'. Go play with a single Pokemon or do a Nuzlocke run if you want to tough it out.

What do you think?

I agree. It was WAY too easy. I hope Black and white are more challenging.

CREATING difficulty just means the games aren't hard enough.

By that logic Espgaluda or Mars Matrix or any number of scrolling shooters aren't actually difficult because you could decide to 1CC them.

I felt at no point in the game did I have to stop and grind to level up to be ok to fight anyone.

What a travesty that is.

Man that must have been horrible. So when did you stop playing the game?
