It can't be Giovanni as many thought, because in that live action pokemon series, Ash's mother admitted to having an affair with Giovanni but never married him.

Barring the canonical issues with Pokémon Live, there is nothing to say that Delia had to have married him. (They had to know each other for her to know how long it took him to reach Veridian City but there is nothing to say they were married, especially with him not being around now.)

But it was an affair? I heard it was just a teenage romance.

Lol.

Ash's father is Mr. Mime.

Or his Mother.

Don't you people ever get bored of asking the same question since 1998?

If the writers didn't answer this in the 9 years and 400+ episodes of the show, what in the world makes you think they'll ever answer it?

I also don't see what the big deal is, Ash's father won't affect the plot even if they introduce him, hence why they won't do it. Its just as pointless as revealing who Tracey's parents are, what would be the point?

You people? This thread was created by one person. (With post count=1 to boot.)

As for affecting the plot, it could do in the future. The writers could do anything in the future and may decide to throw in Ash's father at some point. While I don't agree with the powerful trainer idea as it would undermine the fact that this is Ash's story, he could play many roles, even in a filler where Ash proves his worth.

Anyway, the writers already used two Richie hosos to foreshadow the answer. :p

It was mentioned in a pokemon DVD commentary that Ash's dad will be revealed..

Maybe it's Lance..

She said that Giovanni was her boyfriend as a teenager, which she specifically said was before she met Ash's dad.

According to 4Kids, the Japanese writers didn't approve of the script they wrote originally, making them change it so that Giovanni wasn't Ash's dad. Which most likely means they didn't like the idea of Giovanni as Ash's dad and/or have another idea.

Yes, that's true, MewMillion.

But, the 3rd movie commentary ALSO said Ash's father would be revealed in the 5th season.

The 5th season (Master Quest) came and went, but unfortunately we still didn't find out who Ash's father was.

My theory is that the Japanese counterparts told the dubbers that information prior to the commentary's recording, but sometime afterwards they decided to put off that storyline until much later in the series (or something).

And oh yeah, I think what YumeHeart said about Pokemon Live was mentioned in the commentary on Pokemon 3 as well. I'm pretty sure Norman said something about the fact that they wanted to use Giovanni as Ash's father in Pokemon Live, but they were actually told not to by their Japanese counterparts.

Anyway, on a side note, I love those audio commentaries. They are full of all kinds of interesting information (I'm really hoping they include a commentary on the 8th movie DVD). ^^

*has listened to all 3 of the Pokemon DVD commentaries*

I don't get it.

Anyways, the writers probably don't even know this. I doubt they ever even planned to give Ash a father. Like Scott said, it doesn't seem to affect the storyline much. Though it does seem big, the writers probably see it as one of those pointless questions that'll never be answered, just like all the shipping ones.

Or maybe they were angry that 4Kids spilled the beans before they did. ;) *nods*

But like PTL said,we go back to the rumor of the '5th season' where allegedly something was going to be revealed about Ash's father. So while it may not be an urgent issue at the moment,it's still possible they could have some storyline involving Ash's father sitting on the back burner.

But it's like I've said for awhile now.To add something like that is basically adding an actual story to Pokemon. To add an actual story is to add an actual conclusion as well. And there's 2 reasons why that's probably not going to happen anytime soon.

1)If it ain't broken, don't fix it.The series is close to celebrating it's 10th anniversary in Japan. Why would they jeopardize the show's success by adding something like 'plot' now?

2)I doubt anyone who benefits the most from the show's success wants the series to end anytime soon.Unfortunately, adding a story means eventually coming to some sort of resolution.

Why do you think Ash keeps losing regional tournaments? Let's say he did win the Hoenn League.Ok,now what? Should he take up Pokemon Contests now? Or should he challenge another league just for the hell of it? While the whole badge quest/new league thing is getting pretty old,it would've been a lot more annoying if he kept challenging new leagues while winning previous ones.

So I do believe that the anime's success is a double-edged sword. It obviously keeps the series/specials/movies going, but I believe it hurts the series' overall growth which is why we don't see that much progress. So it's not so much that the writers suck,it's more like they're supposed to write it this way. That, and they only got a videogame for source material.(and Pokemon games aren't exactly known for their great stories) It's not like they're working with a full fledged manga.

Keeping those circumstances in mind, the Pokemon anime does manage to be pretty good IMO.I just hope the series will eventually evolve at some point.

However, they could just make another movie out of it. That way they get the information out there, reveal more of Ash's past, but don't have the issue of the anime having a running story line that'd need a resolution at any point and time, but they could then introduce his father in the anime as a secondary (third?) supporting character (like Delia and Oak was with the random phonecall here and there.)

Even though, then whoever didn't see the movie will wonder where he came from..... o.0

I don't think Ash's father has never been mentioned in the anime, I don't think his father will ever be mentioned also.

Well... that's just what I think.
