This has been eating at me for some time now ever since we saw Reggie’s accomplishments as a former trainer. It is hard to tell because we haven’t seen that much of Reggie’s battling style, abilities and strengths. His match with Ash left me wondering whether or not he still had the skills that he possessed before the match with Brandon. Though Paul or someone said that he never lost to a gym leader or frontier brain (which is something that Ash never accomplished because he has had his losses), and coupled with the fact that Paul looks up to him (probably as a child he was really impressed and Reggie is his big brother). For a time in the DP series, Paul was disgusted with Reggie’s choice to become a breeder. Though at the SL, he seemed to accept his choices after their talk and after losing to Ash.

Paul is a powerful trainer, but Reggie keeps him in check most of the (similar to what Brock does for Ash). We’ve seen how strong Paul is with his amazing array of abilities, types and power-packed Pokemon. Though I am still wondering which one of them would come out on top if they were to engage in combat? First off, Reggie has a huge advantage since he’s the one that takes care of Paul’s Pokemon so he should know all of their strengths and weakness. What do you think?

Reggie, but if Paul will use the "Torterra-Honchkrow-Ursaring-Magmortar team", even Ash wouldn't have a chance.

Assuming Ash uses his regular Sinnoh Team. I mean, let's face it, If Ash uses his strongest Pokemon, he could quite possibly crush Paul into dust. I mean, just look at the difference between Sceptile and Torterra.

And both Paul and Reggie lost to Brandon. Ash had lost to Brandon as well, but Ash re-challenged and won, something neither of the two have ever been able to accomplish.

Ash would've lost to Brandon too if Brandon had used against him all the 3 regies. It's not so big deal beating Ninjask and Solrock, to be honest.

I think the Kanto starters could beat the Regis with some brilliant strategy. They would be very easy for Bulbasaur to Leech Seed, for example. ;)

As for the thread: haven't seen enough of Reggie, but I'd imagine he'd know Paul's weaknesses the best.

I think Paul and Reggie are equal, equal hair color too... and I don't believe they've battled yet. Have they? I'm not thinking straight today. >.>

No, the two were never seen battling neither was it mentioned in the show that the two have ever engaged in combat. Though it wouldn't surprise me if they had matches between each other you know for Paul to test out the power of his new Pokemon or something like that.

I'm tempted to say Paul, because he probably avoided some weaknesses Reggie had as a trainer, but we really didn't see enough of Reggie to make that call.

Isn't Paul obviously stronger than Reggie?

Remember Ash battled Reggie with Turtwig, Staravia, and Pikachu and actually beat Reggie. I mean flash forward to Torterra, Staraptor, and Pikachu (who just tied with Latios), and I honestly don't think Reggie stands a chance. Unless Reggie's Staraptor, Swalot, and Bibarel aren't his strongest Pokemon.

Remember Reggie has countless achievements im sure he has other more powerful Pokemon in his arsenal.

Don't know enough about Reggie to judge, but since he is more experienced he could be better. Than again, he's a breeder, so it's possible his old skills have left him. *shrug*

I agree, if you remember he even says that he would like to see how Paul’s rivals stacked up. So, I’m assuming that he was only using some of his you know second string runners if you know what I mean; he didn’t use his best against Ash just some strong Pokemon to see Ash’s skills to see whether or not he was a worthy rival for Paul. Hey, for all we know Reggie probably thought that Ash was a rookie just starting out in the Sinnoh Region. To me that explains a few things like how he and Paul were impressed that Pikachu could use Volt Tackle.

Again, I think this is because they think that Ash is a beginner and I don’t think too many “starting” trainers have Pokemon that can use powerful moves like that at the start of their journey. Anyway, I’m sure that since he traveled thourgh so many regions with all of those badges and frontier symbols that he has some very powerful Pokemon. Considering, that he never lost to a gym leader or frontier brain, he has some powerhouses somewhere in the backyard that we haven’t seen yet, haha.

Reggie has a Drapion. Could quite likely be the one we saw Paul with.

I said both.

Ok, when it comes to Drapion…it may be Reggie’s but knowing what we know about Paul I don’t think that he accepts help from others. Especially, people that are like Ash namely Reggie, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was the Drapion that got away in Chim-charred or Paul just found another Drapion in the wild somewhere. Though Reggie did seem to have a certain look on his face once Paul sent out Drapion like he knew that the true battle was about to begin, but I have to wait until it comes out in the U.S. to make any final decisions on this. Paul did seem to warm up to Reggie a bit especially from what we saw when they were talking to each other. Reggie could have let Paul borrow it just for this match considering it was the most important match in the league for Reggie, Paul and Ash. That’s all I have to say about that, but like I said before once it comes out in the U.S. perhaps it will be easier to make heads or tails out of this situation.

It would have been really cool to see a battle between the two at some point. Maybe just a three on three or even one on one, but something to see who's better.

I'm going with Paul here, just from the sheer power of his pokemon we have seen so far.
