I know everyone who watches the show doesn't watch it just for Ash and Pikachu!

With that said, what characters do you like, love, wish to see again, because they were so awesome?

This is open to everyone, including others who don't even watch the show, simply because they could've stopped with the removal or lack of appearances of their favorite character.

I love mostly female characters, but not for fanservice or shippings, but because I find them more interesting, very underrated, and excellent battlers.

I also love when they bond with their Pokemon or others.

Well there are so many, I see you love the female characters.

Ash is my favorite. I really like all of them but no one can be called a favorite for me.

My favorite character in this show is without a doubt Misty.
She was first and original female,who achieved iconic status in this anime.She has great character and personality,being flamboyant,sarcastic aswell having gentle side in her showing how caring and protective she can be.Her personality is complex and very deep,during course of show showing wide range of emotins,having different sides to her.
Shes type of person who will express how she feels,whether being happy or in bad mood.Further to add she is very intelligent and resourcable as person,quickly adapting to any kind of situation,like in st.Anne arc where thanks to her quick thinking they got their way out.

Unlike other girls she didnt had easy childhood and life,growing up without parents having to put up with three older sisters because of which complex of inferiority appeared which was later surpasased on,having to grow up fast working hard for everything she achieved.
She was always there for her friends,asawell being willing to risk her own life to save those she cares about,like it happened with wild Marill,or when saving Ash in second movie.

And while she perhaps didnt battle in same amount like other two girls did,she still had notable achievements(like winning Princess festival which was some sort of early contest,Seaking competition,being among top 8 in Whirl Cup,winning Alto Mare race in 5th movie etc) and aside from battling did many things which May or Dawn didnt.
Like saving people lives,taking care of frinds when they were sick,whole town from destruction in Kanto,giving moral support to her friends teaching people to never give up hope believing in themselves.

I also like way in which she developed becoming more selfconfident and responsible,having mix of old and new personality gaining more depth,possesing both beauty and intelligence,aswell having skills in battling.

In end while some people are not keen on this,in my opinion said character deserves to be part of this show again,considering how she never received closure and to allow further progress of her story which is left unfinished(like her ambition of becoming best with water types for whih gym isnt enough,backstory etc).

Her problem was that she simply has no purpose anymore. Every time she also have to worry about the gym, because it's very doubtful if we will ever see her again.

Not really.Writers could expand more on her goal of becoming water pokemon master,on which aside from Whirl Cup and few rare occasions they never broke new ground.There is also left lot of unanswered things regarding her character(like backstory,what happened with her parents etc),having lot of untapped potential.
In reality there is left more than enough material to work more with her,if writers ever wanted to.When character is being "put on a bus"(which happened to Misty)its being replaced in such a way that his story is left unfinished on purpose so that writers have base to follow upon in case they ever decide to do something with it in future.
Further to add ex head writer Takeshi Shudo,stated how he didnt developed her enough being his fault,mostly focusing on Ash.
Going by mr.Hidaka words who was ex pokemon director,reason why girls are getting replaced is to give new "eye candy" to male audience.

When it comes to gym,that can hardly be problem.She returned to it out of obligation,staying because of sisters incompetence and if writers want to return her problem with gym would be easily solved providing substitute in form of sisters or some unown relative opening new subplot.
Gym didnt stopped her from appearing in Hoenn,or when she returned to pallet.One of examples which can be used is Fantina who leaves gym travelling for contest purposes.

In reality it depends on writers when will Misty return and for how long.Gym was never a problem,being used as secondary excuse to keep Misty off the show.

Gary is my favorite character. He starts out as a total jerk, but then mellows down. He also saves Ash's butt more than once.
 
My top characters would have to be the main cast (Ash, Brock, Misty, May, Dawn) with Dawn being my all-time favorite. <3

I also like others like Lyra, Khoury, and Ursula. :)

Misty Is my absolute favorite character. If I had a top ten it would go like this:

Oh comic relief, how you do entertain me so.
I think Corphish was the best to side-step outta that particular stable. His brand of humour didn't stem from a simple one note running-gag, and we got to see a number of sides to his personallity, both factors that few other pokemon have been blessed with. He could be enthusiastically friendly to a dangerous degree, bitterly jealous to the point where he'd inevitably cause himself unintentional harm, a hopeless romantic or a dude completely oblivious to his surroundings, all topped of with a hair-trigger temper. Even in battle he was capable of being a ton of fun, laying down a smackdown on a Golduck whilst under the influence of Supersonic.
But when the guy had to be serious, he was more than able to get the job done. Protecting Torchic from the wrath of some mighty pissed-off Breloom or saving everyone from drowning after overcoming a serious fever are moments that spring to mind.

The only one I think even borders close to all that is Wobbuffet, before he gradually became a prop.

Well, if we are talking about human characters here, Ash is my favorite! After him Gary, May, Harley and Ursula, but I like almost everyone really.
 
To be honest, it'd actually be easier for me to list the characters that AREN'T my favorites.:XD2: My favorite character though is Brock, because I never get tired of his running gag... it's for the lulz.
 
Ash and Gary are like my all time favs...I do like May a lot cus she's more of the tomboyish girl than the girly girl dawn is and what misty can tend to be
