He hates it, but it IS one of my favorite running gags in the show. It must be annoying to have to occasionally correct your partner that's known you for years.

One of my favorite lines:

" The name is BUTCH!!! Oh, wait, that's what you said."

Sometimes I say "It's good to call him Botch than rather Butch!"
(Note: Butch is also name ofa dog and an enemy of Pluto, Mickey {Mouse's} dog! Heh,heh! )

FTR, in the Japanese version he is Kosaburo, and is always mistake for Kosanji.

So, it's not a dub added thing as some seem to believe.

When did it start? I don't recall it being in the Breeding Center episode...

One of my favorite lines:

" The name is BUTCH!!! Oh, wait, that's what you said."

It was different but just as funny (or maybe funnier) in Japanese. It was the equivalent of something like:

Cassidy: "Let's go, Butch!"
Butch: "The name is BOTCH!!...Wait, that's not right..."

Did it start in "The Fortune Hunters"? I know he got called "Botch" in that episode... but I think it was earlier. Maybe the Orange Islands ep w/ the Pokemon control tower...

Kosanji is an alternate pronunciation of the kanji for Kosaburo, so it makes a bit more sense in Japanese. But nevertheless, hilarious. ^_^

The first time anyone ever got Butch's name wrong was in Pikachu Re-volts. Jessie and James first arrive in Butch and Cassidy's base, and :

Jessie: Cassidy!
James: And Botch!

Cassidy appears unaffected in anyway, but then Butch appears with his body twisted sideways and the most comical expression of disbelief on his face, for he has been caught completely off-guard and the ultimate sin has been committed. The background behind him is light pink with little red suns and raindrops.

Butch : Uhhgh, the name is Butch!!!

And that's what started it all.

I loved it when James started correcting people about it. I can't remember the episode though.

James: "Actually it's Butch. He hates it when people say his name wrong."

Didn't Butch mispronounce James' name on purpose once?

James corrected Jessie in the first of the three Lugia episodes. Which kind of leads me to believe that everyone has to be doing it on purpose...

But when James did start correcting people, didn't that throw everyone off guard? I know that I had WTF moment there.

YES! I knew it sounded funnier than what I said!
And I think I remember the episode Butch mispronounced James' name. I think it was in the "Pikachu Re-Volts" episode where Butch and Cassidy were amplifying Drowzee's Hypnosis. I'm almost positive it was in that one.

Ah, no, it was in one of the Lugia episodes that Butch mispronounced James' name.

James: You said it wrong on purpose!!

Yep. The Lugia episodes were good. And I think once Butch called them "Messie and Lames", right? But I can't remember for the life of me which episode it was in. Was it in Chronicles?

Anyone else notice that Dr. Namba got Butch's name *right* in the Lugia episodes? And in Chronicles and the more recent episodes, Butch and Cassidy can't seem to get Namba's name right.
