We all began our journey in the World of Pokemon with one of the sixteen currently available starter Pokemon. Think back to your first play-through: Which companion did you pick? What version was it on, and why did you pick them?

Back in 1998 I picked Bulbasaur on the original US Pokemon Red. :001: I was going to choose Charmander but my best friend wanted to choose him. I didn't like Squirtle's design so I went with the infamous grass-type. I guess my friend became my rival that day! :sweatlol:

When I finally got into the Pokémon games, Gen V was announced, and Oshawott stuck out to me. It looked so adorable, so I planned to start with an Oshawott once I get Black version. Then I got the game, and the rest is history.

Considering how I was 5 when I first played Red, I blindly picked Charmander, not knowing anything about anything in Pokemon. After struggling against Brock for so long, and then Misty, I decided I'd start a new game and give another starter a shot.

Officially, I guess my first Starter was Totodile, as the first Pokemon game I ever owned was Pokemon Silver.

However, I have been around since the beginning of the franchise and the only reason I didn't own a Gen I game was due to my lack of a Game Boy system. I did borrow my friends more than enough though, and in every playthrough, I always chose Bulbasaur (and I've never regretted it.)

So, officially, Totodile, but really, it was Bulbasaur.

Chikorita in Silver. As a 12 year old saving up for my Game Boy Color, I waited for Gen II to be released and Chikorita always looked the cutest to me. When I got HeartGold, I picked it again as a throwback.

Charmander in FireRed. I didn't have much of a reason then, being young--I was only aware of three things: how much fire fascinated me, the existence of Fire-types in this 'Pokémon' thing I'm trying out, and Charmander's being one of the said Fire-types.

I entered the franchise through Pokémon Yellow, so my first starter was Pikachu. It still remains one of my favorite starters to this day (but best starter has to be Totodile; look at its happy smile!).

Bulbasaur in Red. I was flat on my back in bed and very injured, wondering just which creature I wanted to take; I nabbed the brutish looking little lizard with a seed on its back. He looked so brutish that I named him Bruticus. I was able to send him over to Silver and Crystal but when Gen III came around, we all know what happened.

It's been so long that I'm willing to bet my Crystal battery is gone. So long, sweet Bruti. I did love you. :bawl:

Since then, every Bulbasaur I have hatched or received via Professor has been named Bruticus. It's in the memory of the very first Pokemon I ever owned.

What if Golett was a Starter?

Anyway... My first starter was Torchic. (If you seen my first post on Stupidest Nickname you ever gave to a Pokemon, you should know that I nicknamed it.) I chose it because it looked the coolest out of all the starters.

What if Golett was a Starter?

Well, that would make my dreams come true. XD

Torchic's pretty awesome. The moment I saw it I knew that was my Hoenn starter. Cute but evolves into skidplate-kicking.

I've been around since the beginning, wanted all the games, but my mom would never buy me a Game Boy because she thought I was too young. So when she finally did, it was a DS and I got Diamond. That being said, my first starter was Chimchar~ Because it was the fire-type. I always choose the fire-type.

Charmander in Pokemon Red back in '98. I kept him as a Charmander the entire time. This past October my Red version's internal battery died and I lost him :-(

My first starter was Oshawott, since I bought the game when it came out, and I got my Nintendo DS Lite two weeks later, so for me its still my first official starter. My vote goes to Oshawott

The only other games before it where ROMs and hacks was Squirtle playing the LeafGreen rom.

My first game was Yellow, so I started out with a Pikachu.

Either Torchic or Mudkip in Emerald. Most likely Mudkip, but my memory is quite bad XD. I remember complaining that Swampert only got to around l42 near the last gym. Nowadays, I remember the E4 exists XD.

Squirtle for me when I first played Blue in January of 2000 (yes, a bit late) - though, I did pick Charmander by accident and reloaded just to pick the one I wanted. I had seen the starters in the strategy guide for Red & Blue from a friend and found a liking for Squirtle.

I joined the fandom right after Gen V started. I looked at all the Pokemon and I thought Tepig was the cutest, then I saw it's evolutions and I never looked at that cute little pig the same way again. Snivy was kinda cute, though he looked like a total snob and stayed a total snob throughout his evolutions. Then I saw Oshawott and his evolutions and then I was all like, "Good lord yes! This is what I want!"

So now I have a giant Samurott in my White version named Ozzie.

I chose Chimchar on Diamond, a week after the game came out in the UK. I loved fire types, so I chose him, I was 8 at the time, and the liked the fact he was a monkey also. XD
