I was wondering, you know how at the end of each series and they move onto another region and then the girl goes out, when dawn finishes her journey with ash in DP who will replace her and will there be another series?

The new girl from the generation 5 games, I'm pretty sure. If they let you customize your character, they would most likely just make a girl up. Less likely, they might also just keep Dawn.

Hopefully Dawn will stay... which does NOT necessarily mean the new girl won't be there - they can try a group of 4 again: Ash, Dawn and both the hero and heroine from the games (or Brock instead of the hero if they really want to insist on letting him stay)

While it sounds a little crazy - if the new girl has black/blue hair and eyes, they can easily just give Dawn her clothes and it'd be almost exactly the same as if Dawn left and the new girl joined... for the hair style - Dawn constantly change it anyway in her Contests so it's perfectly in character for her to decide on a change for her usual style...
And while that would be taking it a little too far - dying her hair also doesn't seem THAT crazy... I know it may sound stupid bit... Dawn is SO fitting to that idea... Misty and to a lesser extent May would never do that, but Dawn? it's sure possible...

...ok, I just want her to stay XD
But hey - everything I just said is possible... there are no rules as DP proved when it broke some of the "patterns" fans made up

Either the girl from the new games or Max is coming back or something like that.

Personally i would like that one of older characters joins group again for 5th generation like Misty, allowing for further development both in character and goal sense.Realistically speaking from anime and real life perspective there is nothing stopping her from return, but unfortunately that most likely wont happen.

What is probably going to happen is new girl from 5th generation replacing Dawn doing contests again, with Ash and Brock heading for new region.
Of course there is also possibillity of Dawn staying, but chances arent very big.

Next gen will exist again. Satoshi will do the same old shtick again. Hikari will be replace by G5 girl again.

LOL Its already been said by the Jappaness people that the girls are just there for marking for guys they explained thats why they keep getting traded. Some thing like that any ways. So I can see Dawn leaving sadly cuz I like her and a new girl coming in while Ash/Brock keep traveling together. I'd like some one to make a comment about there um relationship on the series, I mean come on they've been together since episode one gese LOL. I do hope the new girl doesn't do contests I mean it gets boring seeing it ger started over again. I'd have rather had May go along with them and keep doing her goal or keep Dawn and continue her growth for contests. I just hate seeing contests get retsarted agaian.

Hopefully, Misty. I know it's kind of a pipe dream at this point and that chances are ridiculously low to the point of non-existence, but I'm still holding out hope beyond all hope that Misty will return. So, here's to hoping for Gen 5. :D

Of course, failing that, then I'd like to see Dawn stay. She wasn't a bad character by any means (infinitely better than May, anyway), so I wouldn't mind her sticking around. Just please, please, PLEASE don't keep riding the whole "replace old female lead with new female lead" schtick that's gotten so old ALREADY. Ideally, I'd like to see them reunite the original cast. If not, then keep Dawn. Simple.

Misty would be a great choice...the games should make her a playable character in Gen5...and in the anime, her return would definitely spark some old-school fans to return to the fandom and newer fans (young kids) would be too young to fully remember her, so she would be like a new character to them.

They'll do the usual,Hikari will be "outdated" in Gen V due to being a Gen IV character and will be replaced by the Gen V girl to advertise the new generation. Said Gen V girl might have chance of having a sibling/family member of some sort similar to Haruka and Masato. Satoshi will still be the main character with his usual agenda and Takeshi will..just be there like he has been. Hopefully the Gen V guy can tag along, but I doubt that.

EDIT-
the games should make her a playable character in Gen5
They.won't.EVER.do.this. In the games, she is a gym leader in Red/Green,Blue,Yellow,Gold/Silver,Crystal, and the most likely will be in the upcoming HeartGold and Soul Silver. GameFreak makes the game, not the anime writers, nor are the games based on the anime. It's vice verca, and even if it was, Kasumi is a resident of Kanto, why would she all of a sudden be wanting to live in the Gen V region and complete the PokeDex when she is a gym leader and not a 10-year old young girl wanting her 'starter pokemon'? Not to mention it would also contradict all the other media of Pokemon where she isn't even a main character. Plus, I'd think GameFreak would come up with someone new for new games.

I probably shouldn't be saying this, but:

The part about being a newbie and completing the Pokédex is true, but the game character actually expressed her wish to leave Kanto in the Generation II games:

Misty said:
Are there many strong trainers in JOHTO? Like you, I mean. I'm going to travel one day, so I can battle some skilled trainers.
So far, we've never had a game take place after Gold and Silver in the timeline. Let's just say that if Misty were ever seen after HeartGold and SoulSilver, it wouldn't be in Cerulean Gym.

In the games,Kasumi isn't a staple character like Prof. Oak. She could have a role similar to Jasmine if she does appear in Gen V,but not the role of the main female. Also it would cause issues with the opposite gender deal, imagine how bizzare that would be and not to mention being able to name her. :/
Even if she is in future games,it's somewhat hinted that she would go to Johto out of all places rather than a new region, but I could be wrong.

About her joining the main cast, sorry about crushing anyone's hopes or dreams, but the writers officially said that Kasumi won't be a main character anymore. That doesn't mean she can't appear though.

Misty doesn't even get mid-region cameos anymore, and she hasn't even gotten an episode appearance since 2005.

She's been abandoned the same way Tracey was, yet despite this, people will deny it till the end of time, even though once Gen 5 begins she'll be gone for close to a decade.

As for Dawn, yeah I think she'll be cycled out for a new character. I think she and May will have another contest battle together before that happens though. I'll say its probably a safe bet May is much more likely to continue to appear for Contest cameos and other obvious reasons.

TOTALLY AGREE.....
shouldnt be too hard to find a way for her to leave the gym.

I'm not denying anything. I'm simply describing an admittedly highly unlikely scenario that I dearly wish would happen purely out of love for one of the characters I grew up with.

But no, if I have to be realistic here, then fine. Realistically, the show's writers will keep right on beating that poor dead horse into oblivion as they continually destroy any chance of me caring about the show's female character at all, since I know she'll just be tossed aside like the cheap, irrelevant stand-in that she is in a matter of years. Realistically speaking, of course.

I think it depends if the new gen game will add a new quest. If yes, Dawn will likely be gone and new girl will do that new quest replacing contests in the anime. Unless they decide to do all 3 - gyms, contests and new quest. If no new quest, I think they MIGHT actually keep Dawn seeing the way her character is set up and all the focus she has had. With all those similarities to Ash and all those traits of hers that mirrors some of Misty's and May's. So I can't imagine what more different they can give to a 3rd coordinator without downgrading from the extents they have given to Dawn, which might also hint that the writers are already up to something with Dawn for the future?.. who knows.

Although for their advertising patterns so far, if Dawn stays… then with Piplup, I really can’t picture it being around for Gen V without shadowing the advertisement of the Gen V pokemon on the show seeing how Pikachu is already there always out of the pokeball. With both pikachu and piplup there, don't know how they can squeeze Gen V pokemon too much into the spotlight. If they do drop Piplup, I don’t see how they can keep Dawn in the main cast seeing how they developed such a close bond for those two already.

Either ways, I somehow get the feeling Gen V will end up surprising us in terms of this. I could somehow picture Ash & Dawn, a new person (likely girl) and Brock FINALLY gone. But again, we wouldn’t know for probably another 2 years or whenever Gen V ad/promos come.

And Yes, there will be a 5th gen. Only question is just WHEN?

And I’m not too sure if they’ll really write Misty back to the main cast though to be honest…

Why does a character leaving the show make them pointless?

You can still enjoy them for the time they're here even though you know they'll leave eventually. With the exception of Tracey, all the other characters are around for nearly 200 episodes.

The writers did an excellent job giving May's character closure, they even give her proper follow-up appearances, although I feel Dawn's ending will be a bit too similar to May's...since there's really no other way they can have her leave besides following her rivals in a similar fashion.

I never said they were pointless--I just find it extremely difficult to become too attached to them.

I see it like this--let's say you're in the middle of a novel that you're reading for the first time. You find yourself engrossed in the story and its characters, because you wonder, how's it all going to end? But then someone comes along and spoils the end for you. Now to me, knowing how a novel ends before I can properly reach that end myself is a big blow to the story. It cheapens the experience, and while I may continue reading anyway, the story and characters all of a sudden aren't as special anymore.

It's the exact same thing with what the writers are doing now. Dawn is a decent character, she has her moments, and I enjoy watching her (that sounds bad, I know). But the story's been spoiled for me. I already know how this one's going to turn out (or at least, how it's very likely going to turn out), and her character unfortunately isn't as special as a result.

Well, then that is your issue. Knowing a character is going to leave eventually doesn't bother me at all.

I understand. That's perfectly respectable; I guess I just have a different way of looking at things. :p
