The New York Post sneaked into an event this week for Julie Taymor's upcoming Broadway show "Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark" (full details here) and learned more about the villains in the story, which Taymore described as a "circus rock-'n'-roll drama." Here's an excerpt from the article:

As Spider-Man, Peter clashes with a parade of Marvel villains -- Green Goblin, Carnage, Electro, Rhino, Swarm and Lizard.

Berger and Taymor have invented a new baddie for the show -- Swiss Miss, whose costume, designed by Oscar winner Eiko Ishioka ("Bram Stoker's Dracula"), consists of rotating knives and swirling corkscrews.

Five young singers performed six songs from the show, including the haunting "Rise Above," which is as good as any rock ballad in "Rent."

Article mentioned above.

All I can say is: Swarm...REALLY? And..."Swiss Miss"? Carnage is a bit surprising, but understandable. The others aren't too big a surprise, though. This thing's turning into a very interesting piece of work.

To be honest, lol, it sounds like something that would be inside of a spiderman comic or TV show, lol! It sounds interesting... I'm not that excited at the idea, but it sounds like fun to see once... though lol, I for some reason can't get the idea out of my head Spiderman taking on the cast of Cats.

Swarm, seriously? XD Reminds me of that Spider-Man Islands of Adventure ride where the villians are Doc Ock, Electro, Hydro-Man, Hobgoblin, and some random female symbiote named Scream who made maybe... two appearances in the comics?

But wtf, costume of rotating knives and swirling corkscrews? This is getting absolutely insane. I'd love to see it. :x

Swiss Miss needs to become Squirrel Girl's archnemesis.

^^^ That guy is full of Lols!

But I assume Combo man must have been a joke character. There is no way he could have ever been intended to be serious, he just seems like a big middle finger from Marvel to the Marvel fanfic writers, lol. Still, Razor Blade just has me picture some guy rolling him around on a front yard to mow a law.

Combo Man was an advertising gimmick that Combos (an old pizza/pretzel snack food from the 90s. Tasted like crap) used to advertise with (get it? He's a "combo" of varous characters). He got himself his own one-shot as one of the millions of different weird advertising/gimmick comics Marvel did in the 90s (not all involved new characters like that, luckily).

Nah, a pedophile dressed as a superhero can't even begin to compete with someone who turned into a literal amalgamation of a dozen characters by snacking on combos.

Which do indeed suck.

But at least he didn't lure kids into the woods to show them his "powers."

Swarm? Seriously? Now I really want to see this! Or maybe I'm just cracked.

They still make Combos, btw. That was one of things Prime made me smuggle into the theater when we saw Watchmen. (Me, I stuck to Goldfish crackers.)
