There are mentors in the actual pokemon world - the name Move Tutor exists for people who teaches your pokemon moves.

There are also tutorial NPCs, not to mention the Profs and Aides that help you along.

Sometimes, even gym leaders and elite fours can give you good advice, as well as the champion.

In Emerald's Battle Frontier, there's an apprentice who asks for YOUR advice. You can be a mentor as well.

But anyways, who would be a good mentor in REAL LIFE?

Well, most gym leaders have a philosophy with them. They train an specific type of pokémon knowing well the disadvantage... but most importantly is that they follow a personal philosophy, a way of life that goes from either just good advice to a true lifestyle they follow. That, and probably they are teaching the trainers that are in their respective gyms.

On that note, Elite four members are probably far more into it. Probably even moreso than the champion. However, their own training seems to be far more personal; hailing from highly specific and personal backgrounds.

Um, teachers? Little old men who've owned a farm for fifty years? I'm not really sure.
