I don't believe that Legendary Pokemon in the anime are genderless, but they are all listed as "none". The rediculous thing is that for normal Pokemon, they need to be 100% confirmed to be a gender before they are lister, but it's not 100% confirmed that genderless applies in the anime, is it? That means saying that the legendary pokemon are "none" may be false.

This is really confusing, the Lugia in Pokemon 2000 is apparently genderless, does that mean Silver's mother is also genderless? I just think this is a bit rediculous. I heard that Darkrai was also mentioned to be Male, but is listed as genderless

With the fact that Silver's mother and such, i don't believe any of the anime Pokemon are genderless, and there's no evidence to say they are, is there? I think if the Lugia in 2000 is genderless, that must mean Silver's mother is genderless, and that is completely wrong.

I agree with you. I believe that there aren't genderless pokemon, save for a few exceptions.
What I think is that people classify legendaries has a genderless species because it's hard to study these pokemon and since not much is know about them, they gender is still unknown.
By the way, in the daycare center in GSC when you selected a pokemon to leave there it would say that the gender is "Unknown" if the pokemon was not either male or female, not "genderless". I think that "genderless" is a name given by fans, it's not expressed in the games.

However, the true exceptions, the real genderless pokemon could be pokemon such as Magnemite, Voltorb and the Regis (which don't have vital organs, or at least unidentified ones).

Do the anime Pokémon ever say their gender outright? This is not "LOL POLL AND LUGIA IS A DUDE AND MEWTWO IS A DUDE AND HO-OH IS ASHES MOM". They never say their gender and so like all others they ought to be unknown.

There's just one problem with your theory. If Lugia is a female and Silver is male...then why are all Lugia known as 'KING of the Sea'? Manaphy sounds like a girl, acts like a girl, but it is the PRINCE of the Sea. See what I mean? So, I'd say genderless is quite a good estimate. After all, we're pretty sure the Guy in the skies is not female nor is He male (Which makes me wonder why I am calling him a 'He')

Even so, that's not confirmed and it should be unknown. That's what happened to the main Pokemon.

True, but it's not like they'll make a whole new version of Diamond and Pearl that has a big stamp on the front that says-

And why'd you waste money on it?

Really, I don't think you should complain about it.

The legendary beasts (Raikou, Entei, Suicune) are considered male in the Pokemon Special/Adventures manga. On the other hand, about Lugia and Ho-Oh their gender is not clear in the manga.

About Lugia being known as the king of the sea, maybe they refered to a male Lugia, like the one in the 2nd movie, which had a male voice when he speaked to Ash through telepathy, right?

Also, about the real genderless pokemon, I think Mewtwo is also genderless, just like Porygon and Castform, which are man-made.

Right.

So you're telling me Jynx can breed with each other in the anime, after all, you're telling me that 'HAY! THE ANIME AND GAMES ARE DEEFARANT!!!'.

For people who say that Lugia is female because of the whole baby Lugia fiasco,Legendaries could just be asexual.

I agree with you completely!

Actually, Heatran having a clear gender is proven false. Even though Porygon doesn't a gender, it CAN breed - its in the Mineral Egg group. And Castform do have genders.

The implication of gender--due to a voice in the Anime, for instance--does not qualify proof of gender. The games, conveniently, do prove gender, and thus we use their conventions for overall gender assignments. Also, in terms of "canon," I think an argument can be made that the games are a higher level of canon than the anime (in fact the highest).

I don't think the argument has to be made. The anime is a weekly half-hour commercial for the games, even though it hardly follows them.

EDIT: I'm sorry, that was incredibly rude and shortsighted of me. The anime isn't a half-hour commercial for the games, it's a half-hour commercial for the games, toys, t-shirts and various fruit snacks.
