Why are people starting to hate Piplup?

I've noticed a lot of Piplup hate around the fandom lately, and I'm wondering why people are starting to dislike it. Is it because the writers promote it too much?

The weird thing is because when D/P first started Piplup was one of the most popular new Pokemon in the show, and now I'm noticing that a lot of people are starting to dislike it.

I think it still has a good personality and even though its hogging the spotlight away from Dawn's other Pokemon, it isn't too bad. I still like Piplup a hell of a lot more than that bland as hell Turtwig, and as of now its a tad more interesting than Chimchar since Ash hasn't used it that much yet.

Why the hate?
 
Personally, to me Piplup's like candy. It's good once and a while, but eat too much of it and you get cavities. It's too cute for its own good.
 
I'm probably one of the few people that still likes Pocchama's presence on the show, but I would suspect the main reason for the dislike of it is that it's unbalancing the amount of time each of the Pokes on her team get in the spotlight. IIRC, with Haruka, each of her Pokes got a chance to shine in the contest. With Hikari, Pocchama is taking most of the spotlight. Eteboh might take up some time too as we progress but... Pachirisu and Mimirolu are left high and dry.
 
My favorite of all of Dawn's pogeys is Buneary, which kinda gets me annoyed at Piplup for having a presence that's really only rivaled by Pikachu and, hence, letting me almost never see Buneary. And I like Buneary, so...D:

But I don't hate Piplup, it just annoys me at times...
 
*hasn't noticed the hate* But...eh, I guess they do have a right to dislike it, like someone said above, it's taking to much spotlight from Hikari's other pokies... I loved Pochama's personality in the first few episodes...but I just ignore it now. >_>

Eh, it's not in my nature to hate any pokemon, but I do see what people mean when they say Piplup hoggs the spotlight too much. I personaly would love to see more of Pachi.
 
Again I'll say Pikachu does the same...
So what if Piplup is Dawn's main Pokémon? it's better than Dawn totally neglect Piplup like May did... your first Pokémon IS more special to you than the others

And if they decided to have an equal heroine to Ash than like Ash she should have her mascot... if people don't complain about Ash's Pikachu than why complain about Dawn's Piplup?
Why do people care it's out of ball lately? did it cause any bad thing to happen? at least it does things and not randomly sit there doing nothing like Togepi did

Piplup is supposed to be equal to Pikachu just like how Ash and Dawn are treated as equals... it's logical Piplup will be out of ball if Pikachu is
But it looks like they didn't plan that from the beginning and only at the middle of DP decided to let Piplup be out of ball... I still hope to get a reason for that though because I agree it'll be stupid to not explain this

Dawn will obviously use the rest of her Pokémon in contests more - just wait
She still need 4 more ribbons and probably will lose again at least once if not more

The only reason I would hate Piplup is because of it's annoying voice. I'm fine with Potchama being out and about (it is one of my favourite pokemon), but Piplup is a fine example of how the dub can totally ruin something good with a crappy voice.

(There is no dub hate coming from me at all, I'm just saying it's ruined something in my mind.)
 
Yeah Piplup is like totally different than Pochama... they made it sound like May's Torchic despite how it's the opposite of it
Its Japanese voice fits it MUCH better

Though, it does seem like they were slowly introducing Hikari as a counterpart to Satoshi instead of doing it immediately. Which is cool. Also, Pocchama's voice is less annoying; Piplup's is far too high pitched. D:

Some people hate Piplup now? What the heck is wrong with you people? In my perspective, your starter monster should have most of the attention as it is your first monster friend. It's the monster that grants you your first "get"/capture and it should be at least one of your strongest monsters in your team. Besides, if you can't take good care of your first monster, what point is there for the other monsters you've captured?

I would say Piplup appears more simply because Hikari likes it more, just like how Satoshi prefers his Pikachu as his best friend. Hikari's other monsters will get the spotlight they need, but the producers need an appropriate setting or situation in an episode where one of them are needed.

They might as well have Piplup learn Surf if people are still annoyed at it. Never have I seen one Water monster in the anime use the technique other than field travel.

If Pokémon was real I know at least I would like all my Pokémon equally but still have a more special relationship with my first Pokémon because it's the one who is with me from the very beginning of my journey and it's the one who will start my journey with me... how can you -not- see your first Pokémon as a more special than the others?
 
Piplup has gone way past being cute and is now in the annoying range.

Seriously, Dawn, put Piplup in his Pokeball and keep him there. Stop shoving him down our throats. Let your other Pokemon have some time to shine.

What gets me is that people STILL think Piplup is a mascot, and it's NOT. People only look at the anime (the actual tv show and nothing based on it), but the toys and other merchandise are all based on the anime, and guess what?

Piplup is not on any merchandise except its own, and yet people think it's the mascot of DP. It's not, people. The only reason Piplup is getting so much screentime in the anime is because a couple of the animators think it's the best Pokemon out there when it's not. Piplup is not and never will be a mascot. Deal with it.

I like Piplup, but enough is enough. Evolve him.

I'm very tired of seeing that thing out of its Pokeball trying to be the next Pikachu. It's voice can be quite annoying at times as well.
 
I may have been the inspiration for this thread. :p

Piplup just annoys me. Maybe it's the dub voice that just screams: "BUY MY MERCHANDISE, I'M SO FUCKING CUTE!" with that annoying squeak. Pochama's voice is at least tolerable. Maybe it's the fact that it seems so forced. Pika's been established for years, but here comes some penguin with a Napoleon complex. It was cute at first, but not something I want to see for 200 straight episodes.

My main reason is that it takes up so much spotlight from her other Pokemon. Poor Ambipom was in that contest, but beyond that, she gets to beat a weakend Meditite, and get OHKO'd by Lucario, yet Piplup manages to fight it the longest. Pachirisu really doesn't do a lot now. And Buneary is doomed until she becomes Lopunny, hopefully taking Piplup's spot as most used like May did with her Combusken.
 
I think the problem here is the Pikachu fans who hate poor Piplup because it's been given mascot status like their precious pika pika.

As for me, I don't have any problems with it. I love Piplup and I really don't care if it's out of its pokeball or not.
 
wow i didnt know ppl disliked Piplup, but i think i'm 50/50

i agree that Piplup deserves the attention becuz its Dawn's first pokemon
but
i cant resist criticizing how annoying its voice is, and how they dont show enough of Dawn's other pokemon
 
I used to like Potchama, but now... I'm not a fan. Yes, it was Dawn's starter and it should be used a little more frequently than any of the others. However, while of course it should be used, I feel as if it's being overused. At least both Ash and May balanced using their starter with their other Pokemon reasonably well.

Not only is it being overused, it's been completely overpowered. We're only 69 episodes into D/P, and people are acting as if it's as strong as Charizard (just after it evolved). >_< The fact that the writers are treating it this way is really bad; realistically, it shouldn't be that much stronger than Buneary or Pachirisu, and definitely weaker than Ambipom. But then we have a situation like Dawn's battle against Maylene, which was IMO very good and pretty realistic until Piplup-time.

That and the fact that it's just plain arrogant.
