Why are the writers going through the Pokedex debuts so fast this time?

We're only 44 episodes into BW, and already about half of the new Pokemon have already debuted into episodes. On top of that, we're averaging at least 2 new pokemon appearing in every ep now, and have been for a while.

Its actually shocking how many new pokemon they're debuting so quickly, especially when you look through the Pokedex and realize at least most of them are done.

Why do you think this changed? Previously they would stretch out the debuts over the course of a saga.

It's possible that they're planning a Champion League with Cynthia set in Eastern Unova filler arc after Ash wins the league. Then Ash could call up some of his old DP Pokémon such as Torterra or Gible in order to face off Cynthia to give them some deserved wins.

Alright, not sure about the first part but I do think that at some point old Pokémon will start re-appearing after they go through the entire Isshu Dex. And yes, I do think there will be a filler arc.

The Unova Dex has 150 new Pokemon, they all have to debut and be advertised and probably when we have Hoenn remakes they'll be shoved outta the spotlight in favor of the Hoenn Pokemon for about 40 or so episodes just like with Sinnoh and the Johto Pokemon. The writers really aren't going through the dex that fast at all. Plus some people are more then likely getting new formes in the third version of Black and White. BW will more then likely be continuing for four years and no it's not "faster paced", there's no reason to believe so just because the Pokemon are debuting. 70 Pokes have debuted that's no where close to 150.

Because...BW is "faster paced" than previous two series (especially DP).

Even if it wasn't faster, this generation has introduced more Pokémon than any other. Plus there's that they essentially locked out all older-gen Pokémon this time.

Considering we're 44 eps into the series and halfway done, I'd say by about episode 90 every non-legendary BW pokemon will have probably been in an episode.

Maybe they don't want to have to shoehorn certain Pokemon in at the last minute (hi Gallade and Leafeon!), or they're planning to have more Pokemon appear multiple times so they don't end up consigned to a single forgettable filler like poor, poor Tangrowth :(
But then that would be logical, and this is the BW writing staff.

Or even worse, some pokemon don't even debut in a saga they were from...like Typhlosion and Flaafy back in Johto.

Just pointing out that there were MORE pokemon appearances than what were previously mentioned. Of course we are not including pokemon like Liepard that were explicitly featured in episodes that were later taken out of production.

Even with these new "additions" to this list, the Unova debuts are proceeding slightly slower than the Kanto debuts. In other words, the Kanto saga has featured a debuted more of its pokemon in the same amount of time (approx. 46 episodes, not including those that were skipped).

To answer the OP's question, I believe that the number of pokemon that can be featured in episodes are already restricted because of the writers's decision to include pokemon from the Unova region only. This was similar to the case in Kanto which had to work with slightly less than 150 pokemon (the legendaries were included later on in the series.) The number of pokemon that the writers can include in one episode are severely restricted and therefore more pokemon needed to debut quicker to get the plot across. Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh took their time debuting the bulk of their regional dexes because pokemon from the previous regions were still included in many of their episodes, and those pokemon (i.e. Golbat) can fulfill many of the roles that pokemon in the regions can't.

Because they will probily go to honnen and they need to sell the Black & White games after the frist few months

Probably because there's a mini-saga after the Isshu league, so all the new pokemon have to appear here since they're not existed in Johto/Hoenn's BF.

I'm just hoping it's because they plan to bring back Pokemon from gens 1-4 near the end somehow. Maybe a new filler arc?

DP didn't go that slow really. Even though it was 190 episode staying in Sinnoh, and there were plenty of episodes that didn't introduce new pokemon, there were a number of pokemon which didn't debut until really late. Gallade didn't show up until the GF and Togekiss didn't show up until right before that. Even if we do go through a lot of pokemon by episode 100, there will inevitably be those stragglers who we don't get until the tail end of BW. If we go to Hoenn they may be pushing them out sooner. Also, something people thought right when BW were released, because they're released on the DS and not 3DS people suspected Gen V would have a shorter tenure than other generations.

But mostly, they blew through a lot towards the beginning because BW pokemon are the only pokemon they can be showing. They can't take up space in the background with pre-Gen V pokemon.

If we look back a Kanto, they didn't show all of the 150 Pokemon, so while BW is going so fast paced, they could maybe get all of the pokemon shown and maybe this might end up being a one arc like DP was. If all the Pokemon get shown, Ash doesn't have to stay too long. Does he?

Because in previous sagas, they had the luxury of being able to pull in pokemon from previous generations to help flesh out the world. The writers aren't giving themselves that option this time around, so they either have to debut a ton of pokemon quickly or force us to look at the same three or four species in every single episode until they get around to debuting some of the others.

Not counting legendaries, there are only 54 BW pokemon not yet put into episodes...and we're only at episode 50.

They really did blast through them fast this time around.

I don't know why, but I find it refreshing. I also love how Ash is catching multiple pokemon. That causes room for more pokemon to get more spotlight! Which I LoVe!

Maybe because there is more Pokémon than Gen IV. Gen IV only had 93 non legendary Pokemon and Gen V has 135, so maybe the amount of non legendary pokemon available plays a factor.

I rather enjoy the fast pace of debuts...

Maybe they can get to more character development later on. Or maybe the League at the end becomes extremely drawn out. Lord knows I'd love that.
