My brother told me they were illegal in the United States.
Why is this??? :/

Ummm... yeah.

The Toyota Supra was available in the US for its entire 1979-2002 run.

The Skyline is currently available in the US (I think currently under the GT-R name), and various ones have been available in the past though, though marketed under their Infiniti name.

And here are some wikipedia links for ya if you still want to believe your brother...

My other brother told me that they are illegal because they can be upgraded to the point where they can be faster than police cars.

Well then there are alot of other cars that would be illegal by that same logic. Ever heard of the Bugatti Veyron? That car has over 1,000 horsepower and a 16 cylinder quad turbo engine! Supras and Skylines are quick but nowhere near that fast. Heck, for a few thousand dollars, your basic everyday mustang can be made rather fast. Lastly, Police cars don't need to be fast. Nothing can can outrun a radio.

As said before, the current version of the GT-R is on sale now in the US. Tell your brother he can buy one, if he happens to have about 80k laying around. Supras have always been available here in the US, but they stopped production about 1995 (don't quote me on that). If you want I can keep going and get into import restrictions, differences between the skyline and GT-R? I'm a car nerd, hence the name: Lugnut!

Most police cars around me aren't anything that special...Crown Victorias. I'm sure there are already a bunch of cars out there 'faster' than a police car.

Wtf. You do know there are a lot of cars available in the USA that, if fixed, can out speed any cop car, right?

Also they aren't illegal (like almost every person in this thread said) it's just that getting them imported from Japan can cost you, BUT you can get some sweet parts and etc for roughly $20,000 or so.

you really should stop believing your brother is right about everything.
