Seeing Cynthia defend her title has got me to ask this question...

Why Ash never defended his Orange League title since winning it? It's been a few years (or few regions ago) & I don't think I ever seen him go back to the Orange League to defend it. As a matter of fact, he has never return to the Johto, Hoenn or Indigo League Tournaments either. What's up with that?

They show the Orange league hall of fame and there's many other trainers there who also completed it.

Most likely Drake is forever the champion despite being beaten by all those people and just stays there.

Because Ash is too modest and sweet to brag ^-^

But seriously, it happened when he was about 11, he's 14 now, he must've dropped it, no matter how big an event it was for him.

Because Ash isnt a Pokemon master yet!

Or he's just really stupid.

He's 14? since when?

But I think it's similar to game E4. The champ hangs around even after defeat. Ash jsut got into the Hall of Fame.

Why would you want a long filler season of ash just defending his title. That seems really pointless to me. At least he won one championship unlike competing in like 10 other leagues and losing like a loser he is

Ash lost in what...3 leagues?

Having him win any of them would be shoddy writing, especially the Kanto/Johto ones when he was a newbie.

He probably could have won the Hoenn league, (he almost beat Tyson) but the writers likely wanted him to just do the Battle Frontier back then.

why cant he be champion & beat the frontier

-back to the point-

once you beat drake you enter the hall of fame there are other trainers that have enter the hall of fame other than ash

(the orange league is like the old battle frontier)(no real champion)

Orange League does not work that way!! [/Morbo]

Y'know, it's not like Ash would have to defend a title even if he did come in 1st place during Indigo, Silver Conference, and Evergrande Conference. Without actually knowing the annual occurance of the Leagues (it could be annual, it could be something else), there's no way to tell just how these winners go rewarded and remembered. We assume they get into a Hall of Fame (of how many winners?), get a snazzy trophy, and perhaps with the right conditions are offered the chance to tackle the Elite 4.

Only then do I see plot events, like defending a title, come into play. Once you become an establish member of some elite grouping (E4, Gym Leaders, Frontier Brains), you have to fight those coming after you and your spot.

I think it works like the BF- Ash was offered the position of a Frontier Brain but declined... the rules are probably the same for other leagues.

I think it works like the games - I the player never takes over the champion! (Green was an anomaly ;-))

Like stated in the above posts. It's just simply a challenge you and many take on, beat it and go on with your lives. Much like what the Battle Frontier is. You don't see anyone defending w/e title because they defeated the Frontier Brains or won the regional league. The only time this seems to happen is when you're the champion of the elite four.

<giggle> That's right, Morbo! [/Linda]

Since the Orange League is an all-out battle with one person, rather than the big single-elimination, multi-trainer tournament that the Indigo League is, it must not operate by the same kind of rules.

The other trainers there could have been in that Hall of Fame for years for all we know.

Drake is not the only Orange League champion to have ever existed. Remember the episode with the trophy that had been under the sea?

Those former champions could have been from way back. We also don't know how long Drake had actually been the champion.

No, it was his Dragonite that was undefeated. Drake himself must have lost before he captured his Dragonite.

I'm sure Drake's lost battles, but it was implied that Drake was never defeated as champion.

All you did was state what has already been stated.
