With D/P coming to an next last week and the Sinnoh League being over I just wanted to state my opinion on it.

I like D/P overall but i just have one huge gripe with it...Ash losing in the League

Now many people will say well he's going to be around forever so its good he lost but by the same token D/P was the perfect setup for him winning.

The writers gave him his best team yet, introduced us to the elite 4, and gave us an intense Rival (Paul)

All a recipe for an amazing finale Match or even a top 4 match.

The writers shafted him by putting him up against a team of legendaries which pretty much garunteed him a loss.

Ash was also shown to me a more mature trainer keeping his cool in intense battles and using his head instead of relying on sheer power.

There is no reason Ash should have lost the Sinnoh League...thoughts??

The writers wanted to show Ash still had a long way to go. Why? They don't want to replace him with another protagonist.

He doesn't need to be replaced he could have lost to the E4. Plus lets say he did win the sinnoh league so what....Isshu is a totally different region.

Be thankful that its not just some random noob. Takuto actually had power and had some story to him. Harrison just pops out of nowhere, as if Paul had met Ash in the Sinnoh League hotel.

In all honesty, I agree that Ash should have won the league. However, that was only when I believed that Ash and Paul were going to clash in the finals. Now, however, I think it's best that he didn't - winning the league after that epic battle against some guy (like the guy Takuto beat) would have left a bad taste.

I'd rather wait for a truly epic final battle for him to win a league. I would have loved for it to have been Paul, since there was so much going into that rivalry. I only hope that the rivalry with Shooti (what a great name, btw) is just as epic and that the showdown between them in the league is just as awesome as this one was.

I can almost be certain that Ash vs Shooti will be in the semi-finals this time, with Ash losing to league COTD, or an established secondary rival in the finals.

But Takuto came out of nowhere as well....he barely had any back story either.

The Ash/Paul battle should have been in the finals. That way, after Ash won, he could have challenged the E4, which was brought up but not followed through. As I see it, the problem was timing. It takes so friggin' long for Ash & co. to get anywhere that the writers didn't leave time for the E4 challenge, the Sinnoh Battle Frontier, the resurgence of Team Galactic under Charon, etc. And as I've said in another thread, having Ash win the Sinnoh League need not have removed him as a protagonist. He could have gone to Issu for some reason and ended up supervising a rookie trainer's gym circuit tour.

Ash definitely has the quality to win the Sinnoh League. With strong Pokémon, better battle skills. The writers should have completely wiped out Takuto, and had Ash face some weaker trainers.

agreed, they gave him an amazing team, and threw in a walking action replay to stop him, it was dumb

Ash wasn't the best this League, he arguably was 2nd best, because the runner up didn't defeat Darkrai at all. However, Ash was the first, and he tied with Latios.

Ash still has a while to go. I want him to win a League, but by no means should it be easy for him. I'd put Takuto in the next League to really test Ash's strength, and see if he can handle anything, and see if he truly has grown by the end of BW. Add in Tyson, Harrison, and Ritchie, and let Ash get his vengece.

Not to mention he was the biggest UberNoob ever!

I agree... He didn't seem like he actually had the SKILL needed to catch two legendaries himself, or how to properly use them to their fullest potential. Sure, he wiped the goddamn floor with everyone else, shown that the person he battled after Ash didn't even take down his Darkrai...

Actually, to be honest, Takuto wasn't that bad of a battler actually. His attacks did work, it was just the fact that Ash was tougher than anyone he had faced previously. Even so, when I saw that second legendary, I knew it was over. That was after I was done raging about the fact that Takuto had a second goddamn legendary pokemon come out of nowhere.

What the HELL did you watch? It was never said where Takuto came from or how he got his Pokemon. He was a Stu. At least Harrison had a deent reason and character - he beat Ash with a stage 3 Gen III Pokemon which gave Ash an incentive to go to Hoenn. Takuto? He just beat Ash with two Legendary Pokemon which he just magically had. Takuto's a Stu.

Takuto did come out of practically nowhere, we never heard of him before the league and got no insight to his past or how he obtained Darkrai and Latios (and w/e other legends he may have).

I agree that Ash should have won Sinnoh, with him defeating Paul in an epic match and defeating 2 of Takuto's pokemon while he lost a grand total of 0 the rest of the tournament, the writers clearly displayed Ash as greater than any "regular" trainer. Takuto was definitely a cheap way to end the series and keep Ash from claiming a title that should have been his (even though seeing Darkrai and Latios was awesome).

I feel like if they were going to make Ash lose to a trainer that is clearly better than the rest, why not have him win league (defeating all the normal trainers that he was better than) and lose to the E4? They had so much build up by featuring them in episodes with great significance placed upon Cynthia. Ash had little to no success with the E4 during his journey, so if he faired the same against them as he Takuto (showing promis but in the end getting smashed) it would be believable. Ash winning league but getting curb stomped by the E4 ends the series in a similarly fast fashion and shows that Ash still has a lot to learn as there are clearly trainers on a whole different level than him (even though he won league).

If they had moved everything up in a sense (for example, instead of Nando being round 1, have the first two rounds be against some n00bs that they don't even show (or show little of the matches) and start showing real battles at the sweet 16 (where Ash has to defeat Nando, Conway, and Paul in that order). Yes they would have to change the Conway battle to a full battle (since it would be top 8) so I guess that is a minor loophole. This way the epic Paul battle everyone loves is a finals match (making it more epic).

This definitely would add episodes to the series, which I realize has run out of time, however if they planned it earlier, they could have definitely cut out time elsewhere to leave time.

So yeah, that is my little rant, either way I am happy with the ending, Top 4 is nothing to sneeze at and Ash showing that he was the 2nd best trainer in the league is impressive (and again, Darkrai and Latios battles!!!). However I guess I would have preferred my scenario, but then again, what do I know?
