Why can't you use a Pokeball twice?

You always drop your Pokeball.

Is it the protagonist, or do Pokeballs do not work twice in a row? Or do the Pokemon do something?

I wouldn't think it would be too much of a stretch to think it's your character. They're the same kid who drops money and faints when they lose.

I assume in the gameverse, that when a Pokémon is not succesfully captured, the ball simply breaks as the Pokémon bursts out.

Unavoidable factor when it comes to Poké Ball or deliberate design by Silph Co. in order to maximize profits? You decide. :p

That was a joke.

I always thought the Pokeball broke, but this is so much funnier. I think I'm gonna have to say your character is just stupid now.

I think it's just so the games are harder. Remember eipisde one? Ash tried to call back Picachu, but the ball bounced back. So the balls don't break on an unsucessful try, your character is just stupid.

Maybe the Pokeball does break..

They should try and make those things tougher if a Magikarp can break one. I can understand a Diagla or some super tough Pokemon but a Magikarp.

I think its kind of like when you burn a CD and something happens and it doesn't completely copy making that CD completely useless.

They might break or get lost in the grass, or as in pokemon R/B: "YOU MISSED THE POKEMON!". You can find PokeBalls in the grass a lot.

I always assumed that the force from the Pokémon bursting back out the Poké Ball snapped the hinges or something.

The character just chooses not to since he or she is a goody goody two shoes (unlike me)

they snap into two peices, asking "WHY DID YOU USE ME, WHY?!"

either that, or we're just too stupid to use that one again

I always though they just broke when the pokemon got free. It makes sense, It would probably be thrashing about pretty hard to get free.

They break AND can only be used once.

You'd assume the empty pokeball is ready and specifically designed to contain a pokemon it's thrown at. The moment it's thrown it closes with all its strength and it becomes the pokeball of whatever it captured, even if it was nothing. (Therefore making it useless if it doesn't even get the pokemon, or unable to capture anything after it had a pokemon even if you release it.)

This is becouse it's much cheaper to make such a commmon item a one use only, than to add failsafes. Not to mention re-utilizable pokeballs would cause a lot of problems, both technical and economical.

Maybe the Pokeball uses up all of its energy in order to attempt to catch a pokemon, and if the pokemon escapes, the ball becomes obsolete since it has lost all its energy.

Once a Pokemon breaks out of a Poke Ball, it's a lost cause (it breaks, never to be seen/heard from again).

Pretty much what Ryuutakesh! said.

I remember in tha anime ash throwing a pokéball to a primeape, it shook twice and the primeape released himself.
The pokéball returned to ash's hand and ash tried again with the same pokéball.

A Poké Ball is designed to only hold one Pokémon. I assume that once a Pokémon is inside the ball, the ball is encoded with that specific Pokémon's info, and should the Pokémon break out, the ball is rendered useless since that data becomes corrupted.

Also, the anime follows a different set of rules than the games.

If you can't catch a Magikarp, Somari, i'm a little worried. XD I've never had a pokeball break on a karp...

But in my opinion, i don't think the game writers thought it out. It's probably put in the game to make you buy more pokeballs, otherwise 6 pokeballs would be all you ever need in a game, and catching legendaries would be easy (just keep chucking that pokeball at em~).

But if anything, Silph Co is purposely making them crappy to make you buy more. Like in the real world with certain things... XD
