I realize its probably because of the "fresh start" the games have. I can't travel over my Level 100 Blastoise from my Crystal version to Sapphire and it makes me really angry! I think they're doing the same with the anime so Ash can't use his older pokemon either.

I was hoping that Cyndaquil or Totodile would evolve....and why did Brock leave behind his Geodude and Onix? Isn't he a rock type trainer?

Of me thinks due to stupidity of writers! If new start, then Ash not be replaced, why?

Who cares? It all went to poop when Charizard left... I really hope he comes back...

I wish you people would quit bringing up Misty in every thread, Misty has nothing do with this discussion.

She has everything to do with it! Without her, there would be no Ash. Or this girl with her huge rack. Because everything's Misty to me. That's final!

Oh, and stupid Brock, of all the chars...why is HE still here? No one cares about him. It's all about MISTY!

Are we still talking about that chick? Whatshersname? Missy?

Ash always releases his Pokemon, it's nothing new. ):

They want to highlight the stupidity of the incapability from Johto to Hoenn IT'S SELF DEPRECATION

I suppose like you said, the writers just wanted to start over with his team this time around, just like the games basically did. That is certainly something new, unlike with Johto. It really gives off the vibe of a reboot of the series.

If they didn't get rid of Ash's Pokemon from the start, Ash would have to slowly get rid of them like they did in Johto. Now he can start off with all new Pokemon and they can start developing early. This new series seems to have great ideas, hopefully they'll continue.
