Why did Green's Raticate disappear?

In his third and fourth battle with you he has a Raticate. Then it leaves his team. You could say he put it in his PC or released it but he was at the Pokemon Tower during his fifth battle.

Why would he be at the Pokemon Tower? Did he want to fight people? He doesn't seem to have caught any Pokemon unless he transfered them into his PC. Even so, he asks you if any of your Pokemon died.

So..His Raticate most likely died. But how does an eleven year old kill a 40 pound rodent monster within a few days? He is a bit cocky and doesn't seem like the safest trainer so he could have overworked it..
Maybe it got poisoned or was seriously injured.

He read a book and realised that Arcanine was a better Pokémon than Raticate due to its typing. Basically, he realised he needed to prioritise to become a Pokémon Champion. I wouldn't want a Champion with a Raticate, frankly.

Read Rival's Story by Gastlys Mama. It answers this question.

Or read dialogue from the game where Green/Blue specifically states he's there looking for a Cubone :/

Raticate left his team because he got something better to replace it. He wasn't there because it died, he doesn't seem the type (at the time) to be mourning his Pokemon, and he certainly did not seem depressed about anything.

He asked if Red's Pokemon died because he's a jerk and poking fun at what he perceives as Red's incompetence. You're wondering why Green's at Pokemon Tower? Well, Green's wondering the same thing about Red since he (Red) probably wouldn't have known about Cubone being found in the tower, or at least, Green doesn't think of Red's intelligence, so he wouldn't have thought Red would know about it.

A few days? That rat's been with him since probably before his third battle, and after the fourth. There is a disparity between real world and game world time-lines.

And sure, he's cocky, but he isn't stupid. The reason for Red and Green's rivalry was because they got interested in Pokemon, and being the grandson of Professor Oak, he'd know how to take care of his Pokemon.

Obviously. He had claimed to have captured 40 Pokemon by the time you battle him in Vermillion. Some of those were probably duplicates, nonetheless, he had 40 Pokemon and did not use a full team. He probably only used what he saw had potential for him to bother training.

My pet theory is that you killed it in battle. The sunshine and lollipops rules of the world weren't completely established back then.

I always assumed he benched Raticate due to how weak it is later in the games, compared to how powerful all of his other Pokemon he ends up using on the team is, I mean he gets an Alakazam, Rhydon, Gyarados, Arcanine and/or Exeggutor, which at the time of Red and Blue were pretty strong Pokemon to use and excelled pretty well in one stat or another.

The only thing I ever questioned about him is, how did he get a Growlithe if I'm playing Leaf Green or Blue? Really

I do prefer how Rival's Story portrays it... but let's face it, he probably dropped it in a box.

Because controlling the weak to help you destroy the universe because you see it unsuitable is soooooo sunshine and lollipops.

Or maybe you're talking about J? Yeah, the J is the epitome of sunshine and lollipops.

I'm not saying Pokemon isn't for kids, I'm saying nothing really changed for the games or anime in terms of censoring what little violence the games had :/
Maybe it died naturally and that was why Green was at the Pokemon tower. To bury it

Yeah, like he really wanted to carry around a dead carcass.

HE WAS THERE TO CATCH A CUBONE.

They erased references to death whenever possible, don't even mention gambling even though you're allowed to do it, Pokémon battles are treated as 100% safe for Pokémon now, etc.

A memorial to "Tectonix" the dead Onix in FrLg, and yet another gravesite in DPPt, not to mention many of the dex entries of the new ghost Pokemon beg to differ.

Yeah, being dragged to the underworld by pedo-ballons is censoring death? Its like censoring a penis with another penis. Oh yeah, and Canalave Library.

As for gambling, that's at the hands of localizers as Game Freak sure hadn't toned it down. Portrayal of Maylene's dad and her dialogue in the villa about her dad being gone a lot makes him seem like a problem gambler. This is coming from the english version.

Pokemon battles have always been treated as safe.

Oh, and those tanks in the Galactic Veilstone HQ, yeah those are disturbing. Try pressing "A" infront of them.

Child abandonment on Giovanni's part as well.

Yeah, sunshine and lollipops. Hardly.

He's dead, rats don't have the longest life span in animal kingdom.

And seriously, where are those tanks?
