Why did the writers wait so long to give Ash Krokorok?

Probably because they're making this saga up as they went along. Perhaps Ash was only intended to get 6 Pokemon again and the Krok was going to be the next Jigglypuff or Snubbel.
The whole saga feels like its just going through the motions, I doubt they had any special plans they dropped.

I think it yet again had something to do with the cancellation of the TR vs TP eps, since it was originally there. Of course, he didn't catch it there since it caused no issues in future eps that we're aware of. However, it is possible they had different plans for the sunglasses Sandile/Krokorok that had to be retweaked.

Or it's possible they just wanted to introduce a team member a bit differently than usual.
