Why do team rocket want Ash's pikachu so much

I was just wondering about this, Pikachu isn't that great, and if Team Rocket were to spend half the effort they spend trying to steal Pikachu in training their own Pokemon, then they would probably be to Poison Pokemon what Lance is to Dragon Pokemon.

Plus a stolen Pokemon probably wouldn't obey the theif.
 
It was said in the first episodes that Ash's Pikachu is more powerful than your normal Pikachu. They've shown interest in lots of other pokes since then, but they never really give on trying to catch this special Pikachu. TR aren't exactly the sharpest tools in the shed, though.
 
I think they've forgotten why they want the little yellow rat. They're trying to catch it because that's been their goal in life for the past eleven years.
 
Its because Team Rocket now do it as a force of habit.

I agree they probably forgot why they were originally after it in the first place.
 
Considering they're operating in Sinnoh while Team Rocket is located in Kanto...um, I think it's neither hindering nor helpful.

I guess it's just better for the organization to have those three out of the picture than wasting time getting rid of them in any way (although they waste money keeping them...what happened to that Delibird..? and Cassidy and Butch are hardly any better at this point, to boot).
 
didn't boss forget about them a few episodes ago? i think he was all like "Oh, yeah, I forgot they still worked here."
 
Because it knows the only 2 moves that MechaMew2 doesn't? But really, it was supposed to be some super-special, super powerful Pikachu. The writers, far from advancing on that plotline, just make it weaker at the beginning of every season.

Cuz if they stopped trying to get it, they'd be quitters. You dont want to teach kids to be quitters, do you?!

plus i think they kinda enjoy traveling with (well, kinda) satoshi & co :D
 
The strength thing does not convince anybody anymore. What about beating a Dragonite, then getting pwn3d by an EEVEE?
What about OHKO-ing a Regice, then tying with an ELEKID?

I think TR has no will to live, other than catching Pikachu.
 
It wasn't really Pikachu that beat the Dragonite, it was mainly Charizard who did it, as well as Tauros and I think Squirtle as well Pikachu was just the last in the group to be used after it was weakened.
