Why do the Gym Leaders seem to not know each other?

Title says it all. You'd think they'd have meetings and greet new leaders with a get together since they're all part of the Pokemon League? Yet Brock knew nothing about Misty despite her and her sister being Gym Leaders and so on. It's just one massively blatant plot hole.

What do you think?

With the multiple gym leaders out there with anime-exclusive badges, I think its just silly to expect them to know, or even bother, to know each other. Maybe one or two but all of them? Nah.

I was mostly talking about the leaders in their own region. I still think that regional Leaders should be required to get to know each other in case of emergencies. Plus, how many Gyms ARE there in each region, both game based and Anime exclusive? I doubt there's more than at least 12. And why does Ash go to ONLY the game-based gyms for their badges?

Boy, I sure know how go off on a tangent or two.

The same reason not all the teachers who work at school knows every teacher. There are lots of different Pokémon gyms that specialize in different types of strategies, but commitment to work and general traveling distance probably keep them really even wanting to get to know each other.

I know you were. But with an unknown amount out there per region I think the logical thing to assume is that trying to know all of them would be too great an effort, which is why they don't know each other.

I don't think we've ever been told just how big the region is in the Anime so no idea. Clearly big enough for anime exlusive badges.

And why does Ash go to ONLY the game-based gyms for their badges?

Advertisement. The whole purpose of the Anime.

I do wish we got to see him get a ninth and tenth badge for filler's sake to explore Anime-exclusive Gyms. If Gary could get and extra two, why not Ash?
Because then we'd be wishing to no avail that we can get these badges in the game.

Then what's the point of them altogether?
I guess some things you just have to give leeway for creative freedom. Those other gyms that Gary won badges from were probably only implemented to make Gary look all around better than Ash and to give Ash a reason to exert some extra effort. There was probably no plot mechanism or anything intended from their establishment. In contrast, the testing establishment in The Ultimate Test was not in the games, but was established in the Anime to provide the moral that slow and steady wins the race and that everyone accomplishes their own goals at their own pace. After it served its purposes of giving us that moral, it was never brought up or mentioned again and we've not received anything of the sort in the game.

Though that would be interesting to see implemented in game form...

One of the things that bothers me about Best Wishes (lol one of) is the fact that none of the gym leaders - with the exception of Cilan, I guess - interact with each other, when in the games they all interacted a whole lot. Like, whole plot progressions were built on gym leader interactions.

But my assumption is that leaders do know each other - or at least know about each other - but don't bother bringing it up in the anime because it isn't relevant at the time. It would be kind of weird, I think, if, say, Burgh told Ash "Oh, you beat Lenora? She's so fabulous. One time, we went on this archaeology dig..."

Yeah, so I'm going to assume it's because there's no point in gym leaders bringing up how chummy (or not) they are with each other to (what they see as) a random challenger.

I know right! I expected Cilan to know the other Gym Leaders that they meet while Satoshi battles them. I'm not sure why Misty didn't know Brock, either. This doesn't make much sense. I just thought they maybe held meetings to discuss matters regarding gym systems and Unova.

It wouldn't be strange for Cilan to give advice to Ash about his upcoming Gym match but keep some things quiet so he can see for himself. He could've recognized Hawes and said "How's Lenora doing?" or recognize Skyla and still not know about these Air Battles due to them being recent and kept quiet. He could or maybe find some of the leaders familiar and remember them since he hadn't seen some of them in a while but knows them as fellow Gym Leaders.

Orange Islands if anyone remembers those, there were 4 badges there that aren't in the games if I recall correctly.

I meant within game-based regions.

I agree, Pokemon Black and White games have all the Gym leaders involved in the story and they worked together against Team Plasma, so they did know each other in the games. Anime-wise, I don't know why the Gym Leaders don't know each other, much contrary to the games.

As in the games, Burgh knows Lenora and helped to get the Fossils Team Plasma stolen, Iris also knows Burgh and helped to guard Bianca when we go search for the Team Plasma who stole her Munna. (I have no time to give all examples) And they fought the 7 sages together.

That was exactly what I wondered. Why do the gym leaders not know of each other's existance? Because when Ash beats a gym leader and gets a badge, it's usually the gym leaders who tell him where the next preferrable gym is. So they obviously know WHERE the gyms are.

But not knowing the gym leaders were kinda strange to me.

It's not as if the leaders aren't celebrities either, they'd surely be in the media all the time. Maybe the league only hired illiterate people for some reason.

The gym leaders not knowing each other always bothered me, even if in the anime-verse there are more badges than there are in the game. I always liked to think they had official gym leader meetings and discussed gym leader things and stuff :( They seem to know each other a lot better in the games the end of BW, anyone?

As to why though, I think it's for the audience, to make it feel more like we're going on this journey along with Satoshi and his friends. It wouldn't be as exciting if every time we got to a gym, Dento was just like "LOL SUP BRO HOW ARE YOUR _____ TYPES DOING"

Part of the problem is definitely the larger amount of gym leaders in a region since Ash's rivals always have different badges. Some gym leaders should be better known though, like Elesa since she's a model, but Cilan didn't seem to know her at all. Also Ash probably only faces game leaders because the writers rather use their creativity for other characters.
