i like it for the intro of new pokemon that i like to use and i like how you can go into Kanto. fairly good pokedex and just fun games.....

Any thoughts on it?

Finally, instead of the hate threads.

-Gen II re-used some of the Good things from Gen I (I like re-using much of Gen I), and this also made Gen II rely on new ideas instead of re-making old ideas.
-The new types and the new type-chart
-National Park
-The Night/Day time system
-The phone calls from old trainers (I liked it personally)
-The new pokemon (Tyranitar, Sneasel, Houndour, Espeon, etc.)

I could go on forever on why I liked Gen II. It was my favorite gen.

I agree, I'm so fed up with the hate threads now. Glad to see a happy one for once.

Aside from the reasons Phoenicks mentioned before, I also loved the Johto region in general. Even to this day it still remains my top favorite. It also had my favorite set of gym leaders too. Though in terms of leaders Sinnoh is starting to compete at a very close second.

Many of the new Pokemon introduced were pretty cool too. When I first saw Chikorita before the games came to the US I was all "ZOMG I WANT ONE". Xatu amazed me as well, I loved the Native type look to it.

While Gen.II wasn't perfect (yet again, which Pokemon Generation was?) I still enjoy it. Can't wait for HGSS to come out to see how much the improved upon the original GSC versions.

Finally, a thread discussing the POSITIVE aspects of a Gen. Thank you so much for making this!

As to why I liked Gen II:

-Introduced the backwards trading compatibility
-Say what you will about the story, but it was a very good sequel
-Kanto may have been butchered, but I loved seeing how it changed in 3 years
-Totodile, Chikorita, Houndour, Larvitar and Scizor. Nuff said
-Fighting Red with his level 81 Pikachu was both shocking and fun
-Fighting Blue
-Loved the Gym Leaders, they were the first ones with a personality (Whitney, Clair, Jasmine)
-Teaming up with Lance
-Red. Gyarados.
-Great musical score
-Last and probably least actually, nostalgia. It was my first Pokemon game ever

I have good memories of Gen II. It was a great way to come back to a series that I loved.

-Day/Night: It really made me feel involved in the games.
-Kanto: It might not have been 100% but it was still cool to see it in the games, and think about how it had changed.
-Pokegear: The radio and phone were cool. Again, it made you feel more involved.
-New Pokemon: It is always exciting to see more new Pokes.

The actual place wasn't bad, and the Gen II Pokémon were interesting (although sadly underpowered at the time).

The best part would be the BGMs though.

All of this. Plus, the National Park + Ecruteak. This generation also introduced the idea of the region having a history and the legends actually having purpose (excluding the three journal entries in Cinnibar Island's mansion in Gen I and their vague one-liners about Mewtwo), which was a BIG plus. :)

because its the main series true sequel!
i wan to see a sequel of hoenn or sinnoh too.
anyways here's my list.
-Day and night
-Depended on Gen 1
-100 new pokemon
-new types
-new land
-new characters
-new evolutions
-3 years later
-did i say 100 new pokemon

Day/Night
Apricorns
Genders
Breeding
SHINY POKEMON<3
Johto and its culture<3
The music
Pokegear
Gym leaders
Being able to go to 2 regions is an automatic win for me<3
Red
The mythology and Ecruteak<3
Bug-catching contests
Dark type FTW, Steel's pretty cool too<3

There's more, but that's all I can think of at the moment. Gen II isn't my favorite, but despite it's flaws, the generation added many interesting elements to the series.

I liked the fact that there were twice as many gym leaders and E4 to fight! I'd take that over a battle tower any day.

I LOVE Generation II. It is by far my favorite!
I think one of the main reasons I liked it so much when it came out was because it was a continuation of Pokémon. (Who was to know there would be so many more Pokémon games to come? So it seemed really special when GSC came out.)
I loved the first games RBY so much that it was extraordinary that there was going to be more Pokémon to catch AND IN COLOR!
Now it is habitual to get more games and more characters since now we call it by Generations, but then it was so new for me. The adventure seemed so exciting!
Also, this has nothing to do with the game itself, but a lot of people like certain classic things (movies, television shows, video games, etc.) because it reminds them of that time in their life.
I will always remember playing Pokémon Silver with my cousin at night underneath the covers after we were told to go to bed! The best of times... such rebels.

Generation 2 was probably the most innovative generation because it paved the way for the next gens.

I especially enjoyed the real time, berries, and of course breeding, which is tied w/gender.

Also we got to go back to Kanto and saw what changed. (can't wait to see Kanto in HG/SS)

the pokemon for one. The towns. The graphics. night and day. Bug catching. What wasn't to like?

Largely for nostalgia and a longing for a time when Pokemon was simple and pretty much just leveling up your Pokemon and using them in battle, not to mention catching them all (which was almost possible for most people!)

Johto also had a very nice feel to it. Mostly the music, history and culture surrounding it - the latter two seemed to be particularly lacking in the first gen. It also kept the basic but effective art style of the original games and brought it to life with colour.

Though the plot development was a bit underdeveloped, it was still the best story in the franchise: no Team Weirdo (accept it, Magma, Aqua and Galactic are so weird you can't call them epic, no matter how epic the rest of the story is; let alone being intimidating) being legendary obsessed, only true Pokémon secuel, and fighting the previous hero as the final boss was so creative.

That and all that has already been said. I love Gen II.

i like to keep it original so i think that the first gen is th best i really like dragonite and tangala also golem.
