in the sequel to Gen 2 RSE had a lot to live up to but i think they did a pretty good job of doin' it

Any thoughts?

I think they did too: better graphics better gameplay, A refreshment probably imo.

Well...

- I liked how many of the areas felt unique. I can admit, there were never any other Volcano-towns, Cities-in-the-trees, or Log-ports in any of the other games.
- I disliked many of the plot-elements in R&S, but Emerald had many good things going for it. The two teams felt like a bigger threat, the legendaries felt like they were more significant, etc.
- Abilities were an extra layer of depth
- The battle Fronteir in Emerald
- The secret base system was really good IMO, it was fun to find a friend's base too.

That's literally all I can think of though. I didn't like R&S too much.

I liked:

-the contests since it was a great side quest if one gets bored of battling.
-pokeblocks were far better than poffin.
-ability was great due to helping my Pikachu have a little more bite especially considering it gets knocked out easily. Static paralysing is great on that rare occasion.=P
Also emerald introduced the ability use outside battle like the abilities that reduce an eggs time to hatch.
-The ability to get lightball in the game without having to trade with an older game (GSC you had to trade with yellow to get lightball and if you didn't have yellow then tough luck)
-Volt tackle
-Most of the Pokemon I liked. Top favs are Combusken, Flygon and Beautifly.
-Liked the plot because it kept my interest up.
-battle fronteir
-berry trees allowed more berries on them the more you water them. Instead of picking one berry off a tree a day you pick 3 to 4 depending on how much you water them. Of course no watering means less berries.

That's all I can think of at the moment. Might be more that hasn't come to mind.

Alright, *cracks knuckles*:

Gen III is my favourite generation, or rather, Hoenn is my favourite region. I don't know what it is but something about really makes me like it, I'll just list some reasons why I personally like it:

For one, the music is the absolute best I've heard in any Pokémon game ever. I love the addition of trumpets in the score, and there's just something about that I find so charming and at other times epic, and at other times, strangely nostalgic. It really enamors me in almost every way.

Despite a wide range of polarizations on both sides, I like the Hoenn pokémon quite a bit. At first, I was a bit weirded out (nostalgia kept telling me that gen I was better, and it still does, but I've overpassed that) but I've grown to like them. A lot of them, such as the Whismur evolutionary line, I find are unique and very cool (a pokémon based on sound, how cool is that!), and others, such as the Slakoth evolutionnary line I find are witty.

I like the variety of environments in the region. A desert, a city in a volcano, a city next to a volcano, underwater routes, a city on water and a city in trees. I may be wrong, but it seems to have been the first gen to have this much diversity in its environments.

There are other in-depth reasons I can't seem to think of right now, but there are always the others, such as the stat system overhaul, the addition of abilities, contests, added moves and a battle frontier, but these are just gameplay advances that would've been in any region.

About time there were some threads for the positive aspects of and opinions of the Generations.

Things I liked about Generation III:

- Greatly updated graphics.
- Improved PC Storage system.
- e-Reader features. (though they were hardly used)
- The soundtrack. Generation III had some amazing music.
- Double Battles.
- The Pokémon, their designs were unique, a good 20 new type-combinations were introduced (including the first, and thus far only pure Steel-types), and there was actually a decent number of them.
- The trainer designs are awesome, especially in Emerald.
- The interface was sped up from the slow pace of Gen II.
- Battle Frontier.
- Acro Bike
- Rebattling Gym Leaders.
- The VS Seeker.
- Greatly improved Berry system.
- New locals and areas with weather effects.
- The introduction of Natures and Abilities.
- Pokémon Contests.
- Wally. Who had great potential as a rival, but was rather underused.
- FireRed and LeafGreen.
- Improved upon the IV system and the IVs for Shiny Pokémon.
- First generation that allowed trading between different language games.

So, we now have one for LiekLike now....

There were a few things. Note, Gen III is the 2nd least Gen I like (or more simply the second Gen I disliked)

1. Graphics
2. Improvement on environment, before it was just a town with weird blocks surrounding 'em.
3. Amount of Pokémon introduced
4. FireRed LeafGreen
5. Azurill

- First generation that allowed trading between different language games.

I loved that feature the most. I can't believe I forgot about that. Best introduced thing in gen 3 in my opinion. I wouldn't have been able to get my celebi without this feature. I tend to use my Japanese celebi bonus disk then send to japanese 3rd gen game then trade to english game.=)

That opened a few options that's for sure when it came to access to a rare Pokemon if you had the right stuff imported.^-^

Inter-language compatibility was a big step towards the system Game Freak eventually set up for Gen IV.

I almost forot two things that I loved in Gen III that they even excluded in Gen IV:

-Two different options for bikes, as well as being able to perform tricks.
-Cloud reflections in water! I loved seeing that so much.

Well, the Gen IV bike had two different settings, it's just that there weren't any tricks on the slower setting. That was awesome. And the clouds thing was awesome too, but it probably didn't get put in Gen IV because Gen IV had so few water routes. Maybe in HGSS...

I pretty much liked all the new features that were absent in the previous games, contests being my favorite.

Gen III isn't my favorite, but it's really nice to see a positive thread about it for once.

I thought Hoenn was really pretty. I personally liked the underwater/surf levels. It makes Hoenn different from the other regions.

Many gen III pokémon are nice, Zangoose, Salamence, Gardevoir, Flygon. The plot might not be winning any awards, but the region is certainly not bad. I don't really like surfing and diving much however, but I'll live with it.

The tropical climate of Gen III was a welcome change of pace after two regions with pretty much the same enviornment.

I was really impressed with the graphics when I first got it. I also liked it because it was something new. And I liked the music for it. But I haven't played any of them in nearly two years.

- First generation that allowed trading between different language games.

Not true. Back in Gen I days, I owned a Red Version and my best friend had a "Edición Azul" (Spanish for Blue Version) and we battled and traded A LOT. Though I get your point, Gen III was the first generation that allowed compatibility between games from different regions (which is different).

Anyways, I like most of the new features introduced in Gen III (except Contest, maybe), but if I had to choose the thing I best like about Gen III, it could be the different game plots (I man, two evil teams) and Gardevoir. Oh, and double battles, of course.

I liked the fact that you could pair up with a friend in the Battle Tower/Frontier.
For some reason, I prefer co-op over Vs.

Secret Bases, Running shoes, Double Battles, Natures, Abilities, Pokeblocks ( I didn't like the contests as much but Berry Blending was fun ), lots of stuff.
