Why do you think Dawn's contest arc lacks shipping?

We're now 162 episodes into DP, and Dawn has entered around 8 or 9 Contests already. That means we're now near the tail-end of Dawn's first (or only?) Contest arc.

My question is, why do you think Dawn's contest arc lacks a shipping subplot? There is some minor stuff that went on with Zoey/Kenny, but its not really pushed at all. I find it strange that Contests were originally introduced to push more female and/or shoujo shipping plots in Pokemon, yet when DP started the writers pretty much did the exact opposite, and there's no major shipping subplot that goes on over the saga.

I understand the writers perhaps wanted to do something different, but at the same time it feels odd. Dawn doesn't seem to have any major shipping story going on over the course of her run, unlike Misty and May, and her Contests pretty much shifted gears in tone entirely from what they were back in AG.

Why do you think Dawn's story is so un-shippy? It almost feels as if the writers turned Dawn into a female Ash, where she is more concerned about her goal and Pokemon than human interaction, unlike the previous two girls which had a strong interest in relationships with notable characters and observing romance of filler characters.

Thoughts?

Because she isn't physically attractive enough to compensate for her overly feminine personality....

Kidding aside, it is interesting that there seems to be a lack of a romantic subplot in this series. I mean, there's PearlShipping, but I don't really support it and haven't seen most of the episodes with hints. I thought she and Barry were going to get hitched, which would explain why there isn't a coordinator who has come into her love life yet. They could be saving her for Barry in a climactic finale or something.

I think it's her character that has the sad case..... DENSENESS!!! Much like Ash she is not that aware of romance. Yes she does like it at times she shows that she likes it (rarely). BUT as we all know she does not know or pay attention that much with romance. Unlike Misty and May but alike Ash and whoever else has this problem. Dawn is WAY more worried about contests than she is in romance. (I thought that was established already in dp 144 and 146?) We all should know this already. Considering she hasn't bothered saying or giving much hints for who she likes. It'll be as bad a mystery as it is for who Ash likes. They both probably won't get with anybody until the end of the show. When they completed thier well focused quest. That or one day Dawn realises alot more about romance. If that were the case I'm sure the directors would hint alot more shippyness in her contests. Besides not like her rivals always appear. She honestly isn't that close to anyone but her pokemon. (REPEATED STORY don't you hate it?)

I just think it's just like you said, scott. Dawn is looked at as the female-Ash, someone who is not interested or even thinks about the opposite sex, only her career.

As for why the writer's did that, it's clearly to give young (and older I guess) female fans a role model character to look up to instead of only sidekicks. I don't mind it I guess.

I feel the reason is because why should her story be the same as May's? Does Dawn really need a romance subplot now? Or canonically at all?

If she really was going to have one, then it would need to be different from May's, meaning it shouldn't be a Coordinator whom she battles occasionally, but someone she doesn't have bad feelings for (that linger some odd episodes as they cross paths), but an ordinary romance, of a guy that shows up and does the decent sort of woo-ing dance.

....Which may or not may make Conway a candidate for that sort of venture, but whatever.

Again, her subplots should not be anything like May's, and they've done a damn good job of that, even as to go so far as to not give her an apparent love interest. In this regard, I think the writers know what they're doing.

This much I agree with.

And alo, she has a completely different personality from Haruka. She is like a female Satoshi - even when Kotone was trying to set the two of them up, she didn't really get it! I actually like that she doesn't have a love interest. I don't want her story to follow a similar path to Haruka's.

*mumbles* Who said Haruka had a love interest...Oh wait you mean Satoshi *shot in the head*

Well, I suppose that Hikari was already girly enough, she didn't need any sort of romance and such. Plus, I think the writers got the idea that many, many, many viewers didn't want much romance =\

Hmm, lets see. She's got two rivals (Nando is to random to count). Kenny and Zoey. And say what you will but both of them have shown signs of interest in Dawn. Yes, even Zoey.

They didn't want a repeat of Misty and May, who were both very interested in the idea of love. Dawn's the exact opposite, so the writers succeeded in pulling that one off. Shame I don't like her very much

Dawn is a female Ketchum except with bad pokemon team case closed ;)

LOL!!! Agreed Except I don't think her pokemon are all that bad! But who am I to talk!

*Nods head* An anwser many can agrre with! (This goes to show she is just as stupid as Satoshi with love!)

Well, there's a reason Drew exists, but I don't think you'd want to hear it ;)

Dawn seems to be following the same route as Ash. Personally, it's because I think Dawn is going to take over the main character role a some point in the future. She has a Pokemon who travels outside the Pokeball (Piplup) and a cute electric type (Pachirisu) and no real love interest. I think she's gunna be the main protagonist way down the road. But that's just my opinion.

WTF. They can't simply remove Ash, as he is anime franchise's cash cow.

Well times are changing. New generations are coming, and it wouldn't surprise me if it happened. I'm not saying it's going to, I'm just saying. Ash has been the main character for my generation (I'm currently 18). I mean, how long is he going to be the main character? His story arc has been going on for 12+ years. They'll have to replace him at some point. And they'd be better off replacing him with someone the newest generation is familiar with, rather than someone totally random out of left field.
