We're now 162 episodes into DP, and Dawn has entered around 8 or 9 Contests already. That means we're now near the tail-end of Dawn's first (or only?) Contest arc.
My question is, why do you think Dawn's contest arc lacks a shipping subplot? There is some minor stuff that went on with Zoey/Kenny, but its not really pushed at all. I find it strange that Contests were originally introduced to push more female and/or shoujo shipping plots in Pokemon, yet when DP started the writers pretty much did the exact opposite, and there's no major shipping subplot that goes on over the saga.
I understand the writers perhaps wanted to do something different, but at the same time it feels odd. Dawn doesn't seem to have any major shipping story going on over the course of her run, unlike Misty and May, and her Contests pretty much shifted gears in tone entirely from what they were back in AG.
Why do you think Dawn's story is so un-shippy? It almost feels as if the writers turned Dawn into a female Ash, where she is more concerned about her goal and Pokemon than human interaction, unlike the previous two girls which had a strong interest in relationships with notable characters and observing romance of filler characters.
Thoughts?
