All of them have traveled with Ash. Why did the writers omit the need for them to talk about him?

Why does Cilan and Brock and Cilan and Clemont never talk about Ash in their respective specials?

They like the dramatic irony, I guess. It worked in the Cilan/Brock one, but I feel like he could've been brought up in the Cilan/Clemont/Bonnie one.
