Why Georgia and Burgundy didn't get closure?

I think it was because they started to become less interested in their rivalry and more focused on making them comedy relief characters. To be fair, they were entertaining characters with some funny moments, but they were pretty terrible rivals. Both rivalries were pretty one-sided. Burgundy and Georgia wanted to defeat Cilan and Iris respective, but they barely had any impact on them.

It probably also help that they didn't have a competition where they could provide closure to the rivalry. As much as the rivalry with Trip was also handled pretty poorly, they did have the Unova League to work as a means for wrapping up that rivalry. They could have done something similar with another Club Battle tournament, but it probably wouldn't have felt like a big deal compared to a League match when they had done three Club Battle tournaments before. I'm including the Junior Cup since that was pretty much a Club Battle tournament under a different name with a better prize. Plus, the Junior Cup was all about Iris' Dragonite going out of control and hyping up Trip again for the League, so there wasn't time to bring closure to the rivalries with Georgia and Burgundy.

No one got a closure in BW.

I thought that Trip losing to Ash provided him some closure. It was still poorly written given the way they handled their rivalry, but he had more of a sendoff than Burgundy and Georgia did. I think that N also might have gotten closure by the end of his arc, but I forget how most of that arc turned out, mostly due to it being disappointing wasted potential. I think that those were the only reappearing characters that got any form of closure though. Most of the characters in BW really didn't go anywhere, including the main cast.

The way I see it Shooty's closure was handled exactly the way it should have been: A crappy, half-assed rivalry got a crappy, half-assed conclusion.

The symmetry at play there is actually kind of beautiful.

I don't remeber about N but the way trip was handled, no one would've cared if he just disappeared after the league so it doesn't mattter much how he turned.

Yes, Sure both for comedic reason nt for rivalry, however cilan become respect Burugndy and respect the big evolve as a person and for her pokemon and she became respect him too, however Iris did not got Georgia as a rival like she do with everyone (why she is in journey I don't know)

BW is like that, nothing, no character ever really matters. Even Iris and Dent gets nothing. They just put them on a train and send away like some cotds.

I'm gonna disagree with Kenyan's closure, he had a good and deserving final I think, battling Satoshi a last time in a very awesome written and animated match and having won the Donamite earlier.

However, yes, the other ones just left and never came back... I really liked Langley, but could care less for the other rivals, especially Shooty. But I still wonder what was Virgil's purpouse on the show other than an Eevee promotion that could've been done by any COD out there.

It's a shame that they had no closure especially since Burgundy was the only BW rival that I liked, though I guess bad writing was to be expected in BW.

Better question would be why majority of not just supporting, but main characters didn't got any closure?

Cilan had no closure at all randomly going back to Johto, later Hoenn with no ending game taking place with his connoisseur goal and future.

Same applies to Iris whose dragon master career had no resoution either or follow up with what she may want to make out of her life. Just randomly following Rayquaza to Hoenn.

Than again not every past main character got really resolution/closure either:
Misty forcefuly had to take over gym and fill in for irrresponsible sisters with her dream of becoming water master and whole started lore in Whirl islands, desire to live up to E4 Lorelei, love feelings toward Ash and her fture being left hanging in air not knowing what will come out of her life and goals.

Max is stuck at gym with his story and ambitions of becoming trainer, having battle vs Ash etc. being left at standstilll.
May direction is kinda blurry too not reaching her dreams, resolving rivalries and being left in dark regarding her future progress etc.

But i suppose compared to Iris/Cilan at least their departures were meaningful, emotional and we were left with some basic info of whats happening with their life and stories at current point and time.

Trip got closure, but it was so bad and anticlimactic that i might as well not count it as one. At least not decent one.

So in reality Burgundy and Langley were among other thing colaterral damage suffering like most things in Unova as result of bad planning, poor pacing and inconsistent storyline. Which introduced lot of initially orginal and promising ideas, but failed in executing them in productive, natural way. From confrontation between TR and Tem Plasma, rotation of Ash pokemon team, Iris dragon master career, Bianca status as adversary and first serious, not treated as joke female badge collector, World tournament and many other thiungs.

Many of above mentioned novelties seemed great on paper, but bsuffered from bad writing going nowhere as result of that.

With such situaton Iris rival Langley couldn't be expected to get much better faith, With her criticism of Iris not being able to control her own pokemon in battle, having big shortage of dragons in her team at one point having more non dragons than dragons in her team.

Her Axew and its desire to become Haxorous going nowhere along with Dragonite winning batles insteade of Iris causing Langley to question her validity as potential future dragon master. Was nice way of building things up, increasing on clash.

But instead of writers enveloping all of this in catalizatir which could lead toward final confrontation between Iris and Langley coming with their terms just dropping ball with it after Junior Cup. Disappearing from face of earth like nothing happened.

Cilan rival Burgundy didn't fared much better either. She lost all of her battles with writers not giving her not even single moment of glory. Her insecurity and envy at Cilan being better and more sophisticated than her driving her insecure was unique and original approach writers took in handling rivalry between 2 characters.

Because unlike classic main hero being underdog and portrayed as "less competent, knowledgeable and skilled" competitor compared to rival, struggling to out do him/her.

With Cilan and Burgundy rivalry we witnessed something completely different and never tried before. Having Cilan as one who is most crafty and elegant in connoisseur career, achieving higher rank and having better credencies.

Making Burgundy jealous, paying attention to his battle style and ways of evaluating bond between trainer and pokemon knowing how shes inferior. And that cognition affected her worth and selfesteem as person, since she both ass trainer was outdriven by Cilan being whole reason behind quittng with that life path becoming connoisseur. Just to fail once again in Cilan own game clearly working toward her new goal wanting to take revenge and making it seem like akl those clashes they had, arguing, snide remarks and confrontations leaded toward something.

But did we ever really saw acual confrontation between Burgundy and Clan, possibility that both characters learn something from this adversary existing between them?

Such as Burgundy realizing through talk and battle how her motives and reasoning behind becoming connoisseur were of entirely wrong nature and for bad reasons explaining to herself why she cant truly be successful with such attitude. Or Cilan beginning to acknowledge her and starting to view as someone who has potential as person and trainer?

Im afraid Not. We never got any climax between this 2 and Burgundy just disappeared in very much same way like Langley did from anime series after shameful defeat once again(this time asgainst Trip).

She and Cilan didn't even had fight at Junior Cup faring of even worse than Langley did.
How sad is that?

In essence there existed lot of otential to make something meaningful and endearing both from Langley/Iris and Burgundy/Cilan rivalries, but just like it was case with many other plots where writers gave up letting things go to waste. Same faith was reserved for this two characters as wel unfortunately.

Because Decelora Islands as possibly worst filler arc in series history not developing any of main cast, not taking time to tie up any open things in their stories, not introducing any quest and objective for Ash and co to reach(and they had one called World tournament) was clearly point in anime where writers either didn't had energy or desire to make something memorable out of this side adventure just filling up time with random episodes waiting for next generation to come out.

So much wasted potential.

Pokemon anime was never good in closures being known for having lot of plotholes and unfinished characters(including main ones). But amount of wasted potential in BW is sadly much higher than i can say was situation for any other generation and i feel Langley and Burgfundy deserved much better fate than what they oit in end.

Being interesting characters and having somewhat creative premise, motives behind their dislike, animosity developed toward main character(especially Burgundy).
