Simply, why is the Grass-type called so when Plant would be more fitting?

It's a legit discussion. After all, "grass" is actually very specific. Sure, you get flower and grass based pokemon, like Oddish or Bellsprout, but then you get things like Torterra, which is quite obviously more "wood"- based than "grass"- based. So why didn't the English dubbers call it "plant" instead of "grass"?
Personally, I think it's because, at the time of the first generation, all grass-types (with the odd exception of Exeggcute and Exeggutor) were obviously based on plants that had the most in common with grass.
Why Grass? Why Steel? Because they roll off the tongue better. Next topic.
^^I think Rock should be Mineral. Melee is crap. Hydro is a pointless change, Aquatic would be better. And i think that there shouldn't be Normal/Flying pokemon just be the Bird type, and have the Flying type associated with the pokemon with wings that aren't birds. Like Charizard - Fire/Flying. Staravia - Bird. Crobat - Poison/Flying. Delibird - Ice/Bird, etc. Plant type wouldn't work because Fungi are completely different to Plants, they are closer relatated to animals i think. A more fitting name, I think, would be Flora.
Yeah, it's pretty much a crap, less then 5 minute list I came up with.
