Why hasn't Ash flown on his Staraptor yet?

I mean, it sure looks like Staraptor is large enough to carry him, unlike Noctowl or Swellow. It picked up that girl Rhyanna with relative ease in DP148 so it seems strong enough.

So why do you think the writers haven't had Ash fly on him yet?

It's just not seen as appropriate I think. Ash never flew on his Charizard either and that was definitely capable of flying him around. His journey would have gone a whole lot faster if he'd flew from town to town XD

I don't know, actually. Like Crackfox said, it's not appropriate as of now.

Ash flew on Charizard in Movie 3 and before his battle against Noland.

He likes to travel with his friends and see things between towns I guess.

Yeah I know, he also flew on Charizard during its departure episode. I mean he never rode it as a form of general transportation.

Well, I get that. I mean obviously Staraptor couldn't carry Brock and Dawn too, but I mean I would like to see for Training maybe, or hell just racing after Team Rocket.

Maybe they could be saving that for the movie. Because, it would be very epic.

It would be epic! Remember when Ash's Pigeot evolved and together with Ash it beat the hell out of that Fearow? That was probably one of my favorite moments in the anime.

Any idea why? It interests me.

I don't know. Ash's Staraptor is probably used the least now that Gliscor is gone. I mean sure it's used for searches, but that's it now. It annoys me because it's shown itself to be, in my opinion, Ash's strongest flying type. It beat Paul's Weavile single-handedly despite the type disadvantage, and managed to take a major beating from Paul's Honchkrow and still come out on top.

Oh I didn't mean training in general, sorry for the confusion. I meant what benefit would training have if Ash was riding on Staraptor at the same time.

I guess he doesn't feel like it. Besides, he probably likes walking and seeing the scenery/Pokemon like someone mentioned already.

I know it wasn't directed at me but you mentioned that Ash riding on Staraptor chasing Team Rocket would slow it down. So maybe if Staraptor was riding on Ash, I mean if Ash was riding on Staraptor maybe Staraptor could become faster and stronger.

Ah I see. That would be pretty good actually and would add some more depth to training as we see now. Even more so if it included the normal routine of having his pokés practice against each other, no matter how suicidal it could potentially be. I guess that would force Staraptor to dodge more though. Now I want to see this :p

If you mean why hasn't it flown Ash across Sinnoh, then the answer is because he'd leave Brock and Dawn behind. But if you're talking about "taking a ride", then perhaps it's because the writers haven't thought of that yet. And yet then again, Ash would rather just move to the next town rather than taking a break to fly. Perhaps another incident similar to when he rides Gliscor to zoom right over roadblocking Psyduck could happen sometime.

It's not big enough for Ash to ride, or maybe Ash is too stupid to realize that he actually has a bird pokemon with a purpose other than searching.

Yeah I don't think of it as being particularly big enough. Like with Pidgeot, it was quite large and easy to fit on. Staraptor seems like it would be a squeeze for Ash to fit on comfortably.
