Why is Diamond more popular than Pearl?

Well I've been wondering this for quite some time. I mean, there's no huge difference between the games except for the pokemon, but is there any reason why?
 
The same reason that Red, Gold, Ruby, and FireRed are more popular, it's a "primary version." Also, Dialga seems to be more popular than Palkia.
 
Most of the fanbase is male, and they're not secure enough in their manhood to play the pink version?
 
Are they? I've owned Blue, Silver, Yellow, Crystal, Sapphire, Emerald, Pearl and at a much later point I bought Red because it was cheap.
 
It's the first name of the duo. Even though blue is obviously a more popular color then red, people still bought Red version. Same for R/S.
 
It's the "Primary version" and it's NOT Pink. Put yourselves in the shoes of an 11-year old male here. Sure they'd probably buy Pearl if it was the only one, but considering it's a very minor choice anyway, I can see why Diamond would be more popular. I expected it to be like this before the games came out, anyway.
 
I picked diamond because of the version exclusive pokemon. One in particular anyone want to guess which one?
 
Its likely because most that play the game are young males, naturaly there going to want the one that looks more "boyish"

Personaly, I wanted Pearl just because I thought most would get Diamond. But when I went out to buy it, eb games had a used Diamond cart that had a gash in it but still worked and it was like 10 bucks so I took it.
 
The only reason I bought Diamond was because I already had Pearl in Japanese when the American versions came out. :p And the only reason I bought Pearl when I did was because I thought it was the less likely of the two to run out before I could get a copy. xD Even I knew that Diamond would be more popular, lol.
 
That's exactly what I did too, Shuko. I bought Pearl in Japanese because I figured it was less likely to run out, then got Diamond in English to complete the set.

Anyway, I figure Diamond is more popular than Pearl because in the past the "red" versions have had Fire-type Pokemon (or in Groudon's case, can learn Fire-type moves) on the cover but this time Palkia is water type (although I don't know how anyone could tell by looking at the cover). Or maybe it's just 'cuz Dialga comes off as better looking than Palkia.

I always buy the "blue" versions of each game, and I picked Diamond because the back of the boxart is blue while Pearl's is pink.

Stupid reason, but that's all.
 
I don't have either but I did ask two of my friends(one has Diamond and the other has Pearl).They said they got the versions because they thought that Dialga/Palkia looked better than the other.
 
For me, my preference to Diamond comes down to the version exclusives. I mean, I prefer Skutank and Manene to Giant Ugly Cat and Annoying Baby Rock-Tree Thing. And I definitely think Dialga looks much cooler than Palkia. Really, I added Dia to my main Diamond team, and I never really do that with legendary Pokemon. Dia's gums don't bleed. I was actually annoyed when I found out that Helix Fossils are more common in Diamond than in Pearl while Dome Fossils are considerably rarer. I always thought Kabuto was cooler, and the cooler version must have the cooler exclusives.

Uh... funny enough, the only other time I picked up a primary game first for the version exclusives was when I picked up Gold (Growlithe, Spinarak and Gligar! Oh my!). Red I picked up before Blue because my sister had Blue, FireRed I picked before LeafGreen because of Charizard and nostalgia, and Ruby... gosh, why did I pick up Ruby? It has terrible version exclusives, save for Zangoose (and even then I just like Zangoose because he's kind of cool-looking). I guess that since picked up Red and Gold first, it just became a bit of a tradition to pick up the primary version first.

But the exclusives really sealed the deal on Diamond.
 
I actually wound up with a reverse reason. I always ended up with the "warm color" version (Red, Gold, Ruby), because, hell, I liked them better. This time, I really didn't want that this time...and I still wound up with the primary version. Which is a definitely bonus.

The version exclusives helped a whole lot too, in making the choice. Purugly's awesome (except for that name, but whatever), but Skuntank, I'm sorry to say, is by far MORE awesome. Same for Dialga and Murkrow and all them with the Nat'dex. But had they been in Pearl, I would have gotten that.

Anyway, I preferred Diamond for the version exclusives. I could not possibly care less about the legendaries, but Honchkrow and Cranidos were very appealing to me. I can't think of any other substantive reason for me choosing one game over another, really.

As for choosing the "red" series over "blue," I've actually had no clear preference. I started with Red (at the time, I had an adoration of Charizard), moved on to Silver (though Crystal was my first Gen II game) and I preferred Sapphire. Diamond now means I've tied it up between "red" and "blue." I really have no idea as to why the "red" series is more popular other than the seemingly "primary" feel to Red, Gold and Diamond (though I personally find Sapphire to be the chief of the two).
