Why is there Event Pokemon and Items?

Anyone think it's ridiculous to have "event" Pokemon. Something so exclusive you actually have to drag your physical body to a single place in the world and accept it. Not everyone can get out that easy, especially anyone outside Japan and the US.

Why can't they be part of the game? Especially after the game gets old say eight years or so and you're replaying it... you can never get back your Mew, Celebi, Deoxys, Darkrai. I don't think it's fair and why did they all of a sudden make Ho-oh and Lugia unobtainalbe, and Poketch Apps, and key items?

I hate hacking but this never gives me a choice if I want to expereince every extent of the game.

What do you guys say?

its not that there exclusive its just somthing to make poeple het out and i think its also becuase it earns them money. but im ok with the events it helps me get out also and plus nobody likes a action replay =/

They have them in other countries sometimes, I'm British and I have a Darkrai. (I also have a Deoxys, but that was when I was in NY and there just so happened to be an event while I was there so I suppose that doesn't really count =P)

no it counts i guess its just for poeple to get out, they dont want all there buyers to be lazy sh!ts do they?

Yeah, they're concerned for the fans, and they don't want the fans to be cooped up in their homes all the time, even if it is to play the games.

Well, what you said is the whole draw of a pokemon event, to get a rare or otherwise unobtainable pokemon, maybe with a special moveset or hold item. If all the legendarys or other special pokes were obtainable in game that would make them a little less special. Even though the whole novelty of these hard to get pokemon diminishes when you factor in the action replay.

Personally, I think the point is to just build the fandom. Having events where fans get to meet other fands is good.

Not having events is enough places is a big problem, though...

It's not laziness or anything at all, it is a clever marketing tactic to re-invigorate people into buying old games:

See, most games sell the best in the first month of release, after which the sales start to decline. Adding a time unlocked event gives people a reason to pick their old games up and play them again. Getting people to play them again gets others to notice the games again, and get them to play the game with others and the steps increase.

Now, when they control when and where these events happen they get even more bonuses. It reminds fans of the franchise for future game releases, and can be used to gather people in certain places (like a store or mall) where they can buy more related products or see new advertisements in a cheaper fashion.

Pokemon also benefits with the marketing idea being related to it's story: "It isn't possible to see every pokemon and new species are always discovered". Remember, the game was designed around getting people to take their gameboys together like a community for community style advertising to sell the product, so even in the earliest games with mew, this applied.

It bothers me too. I live in europe.
The only Event pokemon i have is Darkrai.
And i'll never be able to obtain a legit celebi, jirachi, deoxis, lugia ho-oh and shaymin. (both formes)

I mean... IT SUCKS MAN. We never have an event here... only one @ D/P was darkrai event when US and JP already had darkrai like FOREVER.
It's frustrating.. srry for that.

Anyways... Grant europe some events ffs.

I can see the reason for the events, the marketing, meeting other fans... but like I said before, you can reach every point in the game otherwise and if you're playing the game six to ten years later you can never witness those events again.

I say keep the events but don't give away such exclusives like Mew and Celebi... Pokemon Center Eevee and such is fine and maybe like Darkrai and Deoxys with rare moves and abilities but we should still be able to catch them easily or at least hop to the nearest Toy R Us or something in all countries.

No.
If you want a rare Pokémon, it will require some effort.
It's perfectly just not to give out things for free, because everyone is desperate for money with the economy the way it is, so everyone, including companies, will try and get some.
Now, for the GBA Events...
Obviously, going to New York for a Deoxys is unjust.
I consider THAT kind of cheating (To get to the island) perfectly fine, as it's otherwise impossible to obtain the event.

What I'd like to know, is why Nintendo events usually give away an Event Pokemon rather than the Event Item for that Pokemon.

For example, last summer Toys R Us had an event and they gave away Darkrai, instead of giving away the Member's Card. Why?

Also, I just read on the home page that Toys R Us is giving away Shaymin next month, instead of giving away Oak's Letter. Why?

I'd rather catch the Pokemon in-game with the Event Items, than just arbitrarily receive the Pokemon out of nowhere.

It's not a big deal, but I find it annoying.

Why not?
Getting bonuses is better, since we are getting the Members Card later this year, Oak's Letter next year, and the Azure Flute about a year after Members Card.
So getting 2 events, different but of the same species, is definitely better.

I was blessed by being born in america by a toys r us so i dont have to wory about events, but all i can really say is youre just going to have to wait until they start distributing events by wifi and get them that way. =]

So basically you're saying too bad for everyone who's not fortunate enough to live in an area where these events are held, which I'm guessing is because it doesn't apply to you, yet you justify cheating to get Deoxys because it (the GBA event, anyway) was only held in New York? By that logic I can say that it's still too bad, because I live in New York and can go to the ex Pokecenter any time I want. If it's "otherwise impossible" for you to obtain Pokemon only in New York, then how do you think people in areas where the events aren't offered must feel? I really hope that doesn't sound rude, I'm just trying to put things into perspective.

Personally I enjoy attending the events, but I really do think it's an unfair way of doing things overall, since not everyone can go to them. Maybe there could be some sort of bonus for attending the event, but everyone else could still get them over wi-fi or something. Or like how someone else suggested, they can continue to give away Pokemon with special movesets or something at events, yet have all the Pokemon still available to everyone, as sort of a compromise.

Plus, I think the events just encourage hacking, which Nintendo is supposedly so against.

Indeed, with the implimentation of Wifi, there's no real excuse for not being able to get certain event Pokémon: You just need to know someone who's willing to trade (it doesn't need to be a permanent trade, just a trade and trade back for Pokédex info, then you could search for it on GTS).

Or you can learn to live without the event Pokémon in question. They are not essential for beating the game anyway.
