Why is Torchic the most available starter?

Apart from Pikachu and Eevee, Torchic is the most heavily available starter and I was wondering why this is.

As well as being available in RSE and HGSS as part of its starter trio, Torchic is the only starter to be made available when its counterparts are not.
For example, there was an event level on PokeWalker where a Torchich could be caught and transferred over to HGSS and equally we have the famous Blazikenite event last year. No other Pokemon has ever had this treatment, and I was wondering why any of you think this is.

I understand Torchic is popular, I like it myself, but usually when it comes to starters the writers like to maintain balance between the 3, however in this case, they are handing out Torchics left right and centre.

Pffft... balance between the 3 starters. Maybe in the less popular or newer starter trios like Johto and Unova, but in Kanto and Hoenn regards, it's always the Fire Starter getting heaps of attention compared to their Grass and Water counterparts due to the huge popularity of Charizard and Blaziken. They sure love making it known as well and shove them down our throats at every chance.

And let's not forget Torchic was also the only starter (Ignoring Pikachu) allowed in the Amity Square of Diamond/Pearl, and the only non-Sinnoh starter allowed in Platinum. Yeah, the chicken gets plenty of special treatment, again, due to its staggering popularity.

Expect to see a second Blaziken Mega Evolution in ORAS. lol

Fire-types are among the most marketable, especially starters. It's also why we got two Mega Charizard formes, Charizard in Smash, Mega Blaziken before the others, etc.

Aren't the Totodile and Mudkip (I hate this thing) lines pretty popular too though?

Also I get the points about Mega Charizard X and Y, but still Charmander has never been just given out on its own, and in those Amity square examples, Charmander was left out like all the others (apart from Torchic) and I wouldn't say the Torchic line was more popular than the Charmander line.

It's easier to make an epic-looking ad using Fire types than Grass types. Fire has a way of being very destructive very quickly. However, I was never really aware of Torchic's popularity. Maybe I just missed it.

I know right, of the Hoenn 3 it is personally my favourite, but I always thought that annoying Mudkip had more fans.

There are a couple of reasons I can think of.

First off, Blaziken is powerful. While I don't follow the metagame, there was a time I remember that Blaziken was banned due to its power. Competitive players like high-powered Mons, so Blaziken fit that mold better than Swampert and Sceptile.

Next, Torchic had a starring role in the anime. May obtained it on the first episode of AG, so it got a lot more attention right off the bat (while Ash's Treecko also got plenty of screentime, it came several episodes later, while Brock Mudkip was even later, and, due to the nature of Brock's role, pretty much shoved aside for others). So Torchic was the first AG starter to get attention. On top of that, Blaziken appeared during the Johto League in a clash of the titans with Ash's Charizard, so that showcased its power and skill.

Thirdly, Blaziken's design is better than Sceptile and Swampert. While that reason seems a bit lame, designs can play a part in something's popularity. The reason Torchic was accepted in Amity Square before Platinum was also due to its extremely cute design, making it more likeable that a gecko or mudskipper. So design always has some part in such equations.

There are probably other reasons, but that's off the top of my head.

I think the idea Mudkip had more fans probably came from that dumb meme. I'll bet half the people who used it probably didn't even know what they were talking about.

I thought Mudkip was the most popular, but then again a lot of people I talked to chose Torchic as their starter. It just seems to be a fan favourite the same as Charizard, Eevee, Mewtwo, Lucario and Greninja are. They just have a huge fan base. And if it does it'll sell better of people see that as a Pokemon new comers will buy the game.

This is especially true for me, I chose Diamond and Dialga was probably the first Pokemon I saw and actually liked 'Pikachu didn't do much for me as a kid, I wanted dragons!'

Furthermore, blaziken has its' own rip-offs. I always think Infernape and Emboar are just rip-offs of Blaziken. Thank God they didn't make sixth generation' s fire type starter a part fighting type.

Because Blaziken is kewl. It is not the most popular Hoenn starter, though. That honor goes to Sceptile.
