This is my way of asking you guys what you feel about my opinion.
So, here's my rant:

So I know it's a T.V. show and whatnot, but one aspect of the entire pokemon anime really bugs me. And that's Ash's status in the pokemon world, he's been working to be a "Master" for what? 3 years now? And he's saved the earth about...idk...12 TIMES!!!!

Idk 'bout you...but COME ON, this guy should be an effing pokemon legened by now, and some people still have no idea who he is, with all the crap that's happened in the movies, every one who watches the news on earth should no him by now, he's more than proved his "mastery' of pokemon by now...SERIOUSLY!

Agree? Disagree? i'd like to hear ur thoughts.

Re: My problem with the Anime/Movies.

The only one where people would be likely to know what happened was movie 2, and even then it might not have gone that far past Shamouti. Movie 3 was partially reported on the news, but the cameras didn't follow him into the mansion, and the full events were likely covered up as a means of protecting Molly.

Re: My problem with the Anime/Movies.

While you do have a point about how much Ash has done in these movies, I think that there is an important detail that is overlooked. In each of the Pokemon movies, Ash's accomplishments and actions are only known to perhaps a handful of people. The way Ash saves a town and/or a Pokemon is still important, but he's usually not surrounded by a lot of people. He's either somewhere in nature, such as a forest or the ocean, or the towns people are busy with escaping, such as in the third and tenth movies. The only exception, as Blackjack Palazzo mentioned, could be the Lugia movie since that event had a worldwide effect and it was reported more than the third movie's event. However, Ash's role in saving the world might not be reported, but rather just focus on the fact that the natural disasters were over.

Re: My problem with the Anime/Movies.

I agree that Ash should receive more credit than he's getting. Sadly, not a lot of people in the Pokemon world knows how much Ash has done so he can't get all the credit he deserves. I wish more people knew about his good deeds.

Re: My problem with the Anime/Movies.

Ash does get recognised occasionally but he is really not enough of a big deal that people he hasn't interacted with should know him. His biggest achievement is placing top 8 in a couple of major tournaments. Ash is a good trainer but there are still a good number of trainers that are better than him.

Let's see him win the league, defeat the Elite Four and become regional champion. Then he'd be receiving wider fame.

Yep.

Sinnoh's the perfect place to do it. His latest victory, the Battle Frontier, was a step up from his previous accomplishments, but it was a quiet victory, only known to a few family, friends, and foes. With the Sinnoh league on the horizon it's the perfect chance to let him finally come out on top in the tournament and get some fame to his name. With the focus on the Elite 4 and Champion Cynthia greater than it has ever been, I wholly believe that they're setting him up to go against these famous trainers. The potential for breaking new ground in the anime is right in front of us.

As for notoriety due to him saving the world from ruin and destruction... ehhhh, I'm okay with it being low-key. It gives Ash that humbling characteristic... or something. I'd much prefer him to be famous for his Mastery of Pokemon rather than his superhero antics, ala Cynthia or Norman.

Re: My problem with the Anime/Movies.

^ Not to mention both Cynthia and Lance witness Ash saving the world, yet they don't really do anything about making him famous.

Re: My problem with the Anime/Movies.

I'm good with it. Ash has done nothing really to deserve being famous in terms of Pokemon battling/Pokemon leagues.

And when he saves the world, as has been stated above, not many people witness. And I enjoy that. The show/movies wouldn't be that great to watch if Ash was viewed as a superman type character who is admired and revered by all.

Re: My problem with the Anime/Movies.

I don't think this is a problem unique to Pokemon so much as anime in general. Lots of anime movies have little to no impact on the series.

Even then, there doesn't seem to be any evidence that the legendary pokemon's actions had any impact outside of their specific region. I never got the sense that they threatened the entire world.

Re: My problem with the Anime/Movies.

I agree that the main reason Ash doesn't get credit is because no one sees him do what he does. And Ash doesn't really care about getting credit so it's all good.

He wants to be a master. So, once he becomes a master, then he'll get credit.

Well, I feel that the world might have been in serious peril if the issue was not resolved in Movies 2, 4, 8, 10 and 11.

And what I'm sayin here is think real life, If a meteor crashed an some new virus pokemon were to start wreaking havoc, i think it would be on the news, if a house suddensly became encase in huge amounts of crystal, someone would have called someone else...but I guess that's anime for you.

Well, I think that if Pokemon were real, something like a house being encased in crystal or a meteor crashing wouldn't be that newsworthy. Not when you have ten year olds walking around able to command fire-breathing dragons and whatnot.

The perception of what's "newsworthy" would be drastically different.

Also I was talking about the TV series more than the movies.

In a world with Fire Breating Dragons and Fox Creatures with brains that rival supercomputers, What ash does isn't really worthy enough to be famous. You could also ask why don't Brock, Misty, May, Max, or the Team Rocket Trio aren't famous as well...

I hope some time soon people start noticing Ash and be all Zomygosh its Ash whenever they see him. Sure he'd hate it after a while, I'd like him to get apprecaited.

Much of that changed when I showed up at my school's Halloween dance in an Ash cosplay. That and I went to a public party for Halloween and I entered a costume contest. It was funny because this is how it went down.

*lady comes up to me*

Lady: And who are you?
Everyone in the building: She's Ash Ketchum!
Lady: Oh yeah! You're from the television!

XD Everyone there knew him.

Well, you have to understand, half of the movies happened in towns or closed areas. Manaphy in the ocean, Celebi in the forest, Latias and Latios in a town. Not really alot of people know that something important is happening.

There seems to be a lot of good reasons why he is not famous, but I do wish he could get more of that well deserved appreciation

Well, I kind of like it that Ash doesn't get all that much recognition for what he does. Without the recognition, his deeds seem more... honest and true.

He's decently famous in the Tucker episode where his league accomplishments were shown.
