Pl0x move/close this if it's the wrong area/already exists ._.

Anyways, why did GameFreak make the 4th gen games so damn slow? I mean previous game's characters, Pokemon encounters, attacks, etc are so much faster. With these 4th gen games everything is just so damn slow. Now I know that using the bike or running shoes will make it faster, but only the characters movement, not everything else. Anyone have a clue why they did this?

I get the feeling they wanted realistic speed. It's somewhat annoying, but hey, what can you do?

Complain I guess. But it only makes thing's longer. I do like seeing Pokemon games longer, but with the story line and things like that, not making everything move in almost slow motion.

To make it feel worth your while and all that more intensely grand?
But really.. I "sped" through a pearl for tweaking. Set the text to as fast as you could in options.. Cut the battle animations and it still dragged out..

I think I'm more annoyed about the long save time (which I hear is fixed in HGSS).

When playing Ruby (for Pokemon egg purposes, ruby is the closest I ever had to completing the Pokedex, and it has all 1-3 gen starters) I did notice how much faster everything was compared to platinum.

But I don't know if I could complain about it, I'm used to the speed of the 4th gen.

Could it be because of technical limits? Because while playing Ruby I realized how much better Platinum was in graphics. I mean my player character in ruby was tiny compared to the 4th gen.

I think speed has to make place for better graphics. But you're right about complaining. The time between encountering a trainer and actually making your first move is way too long.

There's also the fact that in any game where the main feature is turn based, speed was never really all that important. Just look at Fire Emblem.

After more than two years, I'm still wondering why the games are now so slow. I can't see it being due to technical limitations as suggested before, 'cause you know, the DS is much more powerful than the GBA, and yet the sprites and animations during battles aren't that superb (come on, the characters are not even animated, and the background is very simplistic). I guess we'll have to kidnap Masuda and ask him why did they do that, and force him t fix it in the next generation.

I knock out security, you drive the getaway van.

But yeah, I never saw the tech as a potential reason.

"Now so slow"?

Strange. If anything I found D/P/Pt a marked improvement in speed over FRLG...

Slow? I've never noticed they were slow, they seem normal, even fast, compared to third generation games.

Before that..
They weren't fast at all.

I hate it personally. I can whiz through the Battle Tower in Emerald, and yet Platinum is so so so damn slow.....

Naturally, Move animations have gotten more flashy and complicated, so people can go "ohh" and "ahh" at the dazzling effects. Also, since 4th Gen, Pokémon intro animations have become a standard feature, which drags on the battles.

However, I think this is an exaggeration. Ignoring the obvious advancement which in turn causes the battles to drag on, Platinum (Not Diamond/Pearl. Those were the slowest games of all times) has a really good pace. Also, unlike 3rd Gen, you can speed up the messages following the attacks (Critical hit, Super effective) and the Items, which is very welcome.

The walking speed was nerfed in 4th Gen, though. But it doesn't really matter with Running Shoes now usable indoors, so bleh. I'm ignoring Diamond/Pearl, because they failed even more in this regard. Platinum and HGSS run at the same speed, it seems.

exaggeration my ass. While the running shoes are the best thing to happen to the game in a while, 4th gen is slow as hell. Playing Ruby is like fucking lightning speed in comparison.

But yeah, its because its more realistic/flashy.

and gen II is even faster. Seriously, speed through gen II and Gen III. You can't even control your character in Gen II. It's like instant teleportation.

Gen I is even faster. You can get a Lv. 2 Pokémon to Lv. 100 in a few minutes. Name another main game where you can do that.
