these are the reasons why i think the anime is not as good as it used to be:
1. Ash simply isn't as good as he should be. top 16 in Kanto and Johto, top 8 in Hoenn and top 4 in Sinnoh, not to mention Battle Frontier Champion, and he gets beaten by a newbie with a Snivy? come on. even without electric attacks Pikachu should have won hands down. Is that Snivy really more powerful than Brandon's Regice? i think not. on a similar note, he isn't as well known as he should be - people should have heard of him, like when he first met Max.
2. the pokemon are getting much worse. in Kanto, they are pretty much all great. in Johto, despite a few dissapointments such as Blissey, they were also pretty good. in Hoenn, they had some of the best including Mudkip and Aron as well as some stinkers like Volbeat and Hariyama. then, it goes massively downhill. despite some greats such as Infernape, Torterra and Piplup, others like Burmy, Wormadam, Floatzel, Ambipom, Lopunny, Purugly, Hippopatas and Lickilicky are simply atrociously bad. then we get to Unova. all of the starters look dreadful, and others like Throh and Sawk don't even bear thinking about.
3. The Black and White intro is quite simply horrible.
4. when was the last time some greats like Duplica, Richie, Lance and Misty were seen in the anime? a few more reunions couldn't hurt.
5. After all the intense training and teaching Ash has been through (Brandon, Bertha, Dewford Island, etc) why doesn't he remember and use any of the 'revelations' he has while training/being taught? for example, while Dawn used the Ice Shard powerup on Mamoswine, Ash stopped using it on Torterra.
6. Pikachu being captured by team rocket. it is becoming surprising that Pikachu stays with Ash after it seems like every day it is succesfully stolen and then gets rescued. it should be made that capturing Pikachu is a challenge for Team Rocket, so that we actually worry when it happens.
7. Team Rocket's Sinnoh and Unova mottos. oh dear.
8. I for one have had enough of 'new starts' Johto was much better than the rest because he didn't start all over again.
9. for some reason, just because a pokemon of Ash's has become really impressive, it gets used just so that it can be beaten to show off the power of a different pokemon. this was very notable in the case of Ash's Torterra, who only defeated Team Rocket after evolving, and failed to defeat anyone else.
10. Asking Team Rocket to "give the pokemon back" and waiting patiently for them to finish their motto before doing zip until attacked, and not protecting Pikachu from various mechanical arms etc. they should do what Paul and Barry do when they see Team Rocket. also, they should be extremely suspicious of men with shoulder-length blue hair, women with long red hair and short people with whiskers.
