Why the Hell Do NPCs name their pokemon stupid names?

It's a Psyduck in Oreburgh. I started replaying Diamond this morning and the NPC's comment made me chuckle a bit.

I remember some guy in GSC naming his Spearow Kenya. I don't understand the resemblance between a Sparrow and that area of the world but whatever.

The in-game trades have Nicknames to help demonstrate how Pokémon you receive in trades cannot have their nicknames changed.

Here is a question: Why do they insist on giving nicknames for those in-game trade Pokemon instead of sticking to the species name?

P.S.: As a side note, I remember one time when someone who agreed to trade to me a Zangoose decided to rename it F-word A-word (the actual words) before trading it to me. You can see how I reacted.

The names I don't mind so much, but what I did fucking mind was the Haunter you can trade for in Snowpoint. I saw that and thought "wow, the developers finally decided to give us a free trade evolution! That's really generous and decent and kind and awesome of them." So of course the motherfucker is holding and everstone. God damnit.
