Why was Alexa included in the group?

With how much she was side-tracked in DA, you'd think her continuing to journey with Ash and co. was extremely last minute. Except they really could've thought of ways to have play a part in certain episode or just be "there." She's like Brock in DP, there for the sake of being there.

Am I missing something or what?

It was just to Promote XY but I Liked Her in it.

Also I have NOT Said this in so Long, HAPPY Late 900 MESSAGES TO Me.

The writers put her in the group so they can promote XY.

But why were they so keen on making her go away rather than give her more screen time if that was the case?

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Alexa's inclusion was a last minute decision. She and her Pokemon were rarely focused on and they were often written out of an episode. She was brought in to bring to promote X/Y and foreshadow Ash traveling to Kalos, but they didn't handle that quite well when she barely had any presence in the group at all.

XY promotion, give Ash a reason to go to Kalos and also a reason to challenge the bug gym first.

Even without Alexa, Ahs would have challenged the first Gym Leader anyway since he couldn't challenge the Lumiose City Gym.

Even though she could've been added into the stories with little consequence.

She would have just stood in the background though, which isn't really much of an upgrade over being written out of most of the episodes after she joined the group.

It'd be less forced though to keep her out of the action.

It's quite likely that those episodes were already scripted, storyboarded, etc before the decision was made to have Pansy be part of the group during the last 8 episodes of the series, meaning they had to be rewritten to include her. It's a lot easier to redo a couple scenes at the beginning and end of the episode than to rewrite and redo the entire thing to add a new character into the group.

And the other option could've been to drop her after one episode and maybe bring her back in the last BW episode where she interviews Oak.

Last minute Gen 6 promotion.

Wouldn't be the first time elements from the next Generation was bought in early and the producers really didn't know what to do with it (won't be the last, either...)

That would still be a terrible way to handle a character meant as promotion for the new games, so I don't think we would gain anything from not having forced excuse to keep her out of the action.

That sounds like a good possibility and would explain why she would often only appear at the start and end of an episode.

They could have done that, but they were probably told to include her for X/Y promotion, despite how little focus she would have during these episodes. Plus, she was heading in the same direction as Ash and his friends, so it would make more sense for her to travel with them than to just disappear until the last BW episode.
