Why was Khoury created?

Why was Lyra accompanied by Khoury in the Johto Festival arc in DP, instead of Ethan?

Because while Marina and Lyra are two different characters in the anime, Jimmy and Ethan are too similar in design.

Lyra was always alone. She just made Khoury up as an imaginary friend, so she wouldn't feel alone. Khoury's father is either Lyra's father, or Khoury's father - Khoury having once existed, but died- and asks the twerps to play along so as not to upset Lyra. And anyone who browses /vp/ knows that Lyra's a freaking psycho deep down.

She had the Totodile and Gible. Any scenes of the two being apart are actually Lyra's imagination - she's either being Khoury or Lyra, or the events of the episode were altered from what originally happened to fit her own personal canon.

tl;dr: Khoury was created to help Lyra cope with lonliness or something.

Or because they wanted someone to have a Totodile, since Lyra and Dawn had the other two Johto starters.

I despise Kazunari with every passion of my being because of this. We could have had Kenta join Kotone and possibly get a Jun'ichi cameo in the Johto Festa arc (since Marina has apparently achieved her dream of being in idol in Satoshi's story.) Kazunari's aspirations to be a Pokémon Breeder could have been given to Kenta too, thus mirroring his Pokémon Special counterpart perfectly. I'm also annoyed on how Kazunari was given all of the focus (getting a Fukamaru and Waninoko's evolution) instead of Kotone, who is a game character.

Because having Kenta connected to Kotone would mean much work(not only due to continuity issues, but also age issues. Kenta was older than the twerps.), also as Karamazov pointed out, to have someone have a Waninoko(and showcase some more Alligates, as poor croc got pretty shafted in previous episodes) and also probably to resolve Kotone's romantic subplot to make her a Pearlshipper for more Pearlshipping fanservice. Frankly, I liked Kazunari as a character even if we couldn't see LoT trio. I have a soft spot for nerd boys, crocodiles and land sharks, you see :B.

I don't know, maybe they might have made it less boring if they only had Kotone. She mostly bonded with Dawn anyway, so they let Khoury hang around. But to tell you the truth, I didn't like however the way Khoury was treated by Kotone.

You want to know the damn sick irony of Khoury? His voice actor is also the voice actor for Kenta in Japan. Kenji Nojima - Bulbapedia, the community-driven Pokémon encyclopedia It's like the writers do this on purpose.

Although I should hate Kazunari for all the reasons stated, I can't for a coulple of reasons. First, he gave Takeshi a little badly-needed focus. It was nice to have a character look up to our resident breeder and recognise him for this talent. Also, Kazunari got a little character growth during his time on the show. He went from being really nervous and full of self-doubt to finding some inner strength and improving as a result. I doubt that Kazunari would have agreed to travelling with Kotone at the end of his arc had be been the same as he'd been during the Johto Festa.

I do have an issue with his dub name, or rather spelling?! Khoury? What's the matter with Corey anyway...
