How do I use the Wi-Fi in the DS for the Global Trade System? Does the Wi-Fi come with the system/game, or do I have to purchase it elsewhere? How does it work? I basically know nothing about Wi-Fi and the DS compatability, so please forgive me if these seem like noobish questions.

You have to have a wireless router if you want to use Wi-Fi. You can get the USB Wi-Fi adapter if you don't want to get one. Also, you can't have a dial-up connection.

Your DS comes out of the box Wi-fi capable, like Geof said, all you need is a wireless signal being broadcasted... Such as a Wireless router, The nintendo wifi usb--> (what I use and it works just fine) there is another nifty little item I found in Target the ohter day. Its called like Usb Wifi Max, or something like that. It can be found in the DS/psp accesorie section. Its pretty much Like a portable router that you can take and plug into any computer when you need a wireless signal, it works for my psp,ds and computer and seems just as fast as a normal router.

Also you can indeed use a Dial-up connection with the nintendo wifi usb, all you have to do is dial up and connect to the net and make sure you share your dial up connection then connect to the wifi usb. but I would only recomend it for games like Pokemon, not more intense ones like Mario kart and metroid. Though my friend plays mario kart over dial up without hardly any lag. Really though you only want to do this as a last resort, since most of the time the voice chat becomes useless and things can get so laggy that there is really no point. I just wanted to let you know it is possible.

That's strange... Nintendo themselves said that it only works with high-speed connections.

They probably meant "Only works well with high-speed connections."
Pokemon is a very low-bandwidth game, so it should be able to handle a slower connection better than, say, Mario Kart DS.

Well it works on dial-up for me and my friend, some people claim that they had to install aditional "Hacked" drivers to get it to work, but all we did was made sure the connection was shared and as long as you were connected it would work.
