We all know how the first eight movies were cropped into a 4:3 fullscreen ratio for the US, right?

Well, I heard that Australia got those movies in widescreen and wanted to know if there was any truth to that. And what about the other English-speaking countries out there? Did you guys get the American cropped version, or an uncropped widescreen presentation?

Finally, is there a store that would legally sell these discs online and internationally?

Well for Australian DVD's going by what's written on the back of them:

Movie 1-
4:3

Movie 2-
16:9

Movie 3-
16:9

Movie 4-
16:9 (no mini movie despite being advertised on the front)

movie 5-
4:3

Mewtwo returns:
4:3

movie 6 and movie 7 were never released.

movie 8:
16:9

movie 9:
16:9 (no mini movie)

Movie 10:
16:9

movie 11:
16:9

Good luck hunting early Australian DVD's though. I noticed alot of online stores are not selling the early ones which means they're discontinued.

Though if you ever found movie 2 or 3 they are double sided and actually have multiple languages on them.

Movies 2 to 4 say something about being presented with a letter box format. However they still say 16:9 and widescreen. Not entirely sure what they meant there to be honest.
This message does not exist on movie 8 onwards.

You can judge for yourself with this screen captures I took ages ago on movie 2, 3 and 8. Sorry if they're not that good. I was learning how to screen capture when I did these.

As for where to get DVD's. Well you'd be lucky to find the early stuff.

However for later stuff ezyDVD claims to sell internationally.

You won't find Widescreen DVD's of Movies 1 & 5 with the English dub for some strange reason. Though doesn't your Japanese DVD of Movie 1 have it in Widescreen Dogasu?

It does, but I'm looking for a widescreen version of the fourth movie so I can get screencaps of the extra footage 4Kids had the animators go back and add in.

Anyway, thanks, The Power of Pika, for the information you posted. I'll definitely check that site out.
