Last night I was playing my Wii for an hour and a half and the thing gets pretty hot and shuts off by itself. Apparently a lot of Wiis have internal disconnected fans that cause the system to overheat. Has anyone else had problems like this? Specifically, do you notice air coming out the side of your Wii? Because I'm not really noticing anything blowing outside my vents, but I'm not sure if there should be. I thought it only happened to people who left their Wii connected to the internet all the time, but I don't even have a wireless internet connection for it to use so I'm not sure if it was a one-time fluke or something to be worried about.

Whoa! Talk about a good idea! Not letting it overheat...you rule again Nintendo!!!

I dont have a wii, but I have messed with my friends enough to know a good deal about them. He had similar problems with his, it would overheat and cutout. Because he left it plugged in all the time. turns out the wii uses the same amount of power on standbuy as it does when its running, about 17 watts (20 dollars a year). My friend started unplugging his whenever he wasnt using it and it seemed to work well. But he got tired of doing that all the time and returned it and got one that wasnt faulty. Now his new wii works great and doesnt overheat. If I were you I would just get it over with and take it back and get a new one ( which you should be able to since its faulty ). As for your fan problem I have heard that on some of the earlier models, certain fans dont work at all! Yours just sounds faulty.

I've never had this kind of problem, and I tend to have the thing plugged in all the time. I've even been known to play for hours at a time while playing Twilight Princess.

Yeah, I think its just some, My Wii has been on with Wii connect 24 for around 2 months now and nothing negitive out of it. Then I've had long all-day play set-up and nothing wrong either. Though I think it should be side that the vents are on the bottom (when you use the stand) and not on the sides.

Hell, when I'm in the middle of a boss fight, or I'm too lazy to save, I just take the batteries out of my Wiimote and leave it on and go to bed. So far, nothing.

Yeah, just return any console that's faulty in any way, under Nintendo's warranty policy. They're usually pretty good about upholding it.

Well, damn. My Wii has been on since last night, connected to the internet. And now you guys are getting me all worried. D:

On an unrelated note, TARDIS WILL BE EXTERRRRMINATED!
