So far, we've seen each Generation of Pokemon having a home console game within their arsenal... whether it be a Pokemon Snap-type of game, the newer Mystery Dungeon Wii-Ware, or one of what they call the "main series console games" on Bulbapedia:

http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Template:Main_series

What do you expect out of Gen V when the Wii (or a new console, I dunno... too many rumors nowadays) is invovled? What type of new games do you hope for? Honestly, I'd like to see another RPG in similar fashion to Colosseum and XD, but a different plot of course.

Colosseum sequal please. No XD sequal, just a sequal to good 'ol Colosseum. Just Retcon all the things that have been added, changed, whatever in XD.

I want my normal-on-everything-shadow-moves, evice, the old admins and the Colosseum protagonists.

Pokémon may be big on small retcons, but they're not going to redact an entire game's plot. And personally, I'm tired of Orre anyway. I'd like to see another new region, or an old region redone for a Colosseum-like game.

And hasn't it been a while since Genius Sonority released a game? Almost all the games they've developed have been Pokémon games (their only other actual game has been a Dragon Quest title they shared with another company), and they've been almost entirely responsible for the console side of the franchise for a while now (aside from the little games like PokéPark that don't use any core game mechanics), so it's likely that whatever they're working on now is the next console Pokémon game.

No, that's game freak. Genius Sonority may have little problems with it.

No, it's neither of those: it's the Pokémon Company that's in ultimate control of it, regardless of who's developing the game. And that aside, there's no reason XD should be retconned away anyway, except from your logic of "I don't like it, so it sucks".

I'm really hoping that Genius Sonority have already gone back to developing RPG games after their less than stellar success with PBR. By the beginning of Generation V, it will have been five years since XD's release and four years since PBR's, and it may take another year from then until a new 3D game is released. This should be reflected in the quality of that product.

I considerably doubt that Genius Sonority have anything against their own game. What was so wrong with XD, anyway?

I would personally like to see an XD sequel with Michael and Jovi as the player characters. XD has multiple references to to Jovi wanting to become a trainer, and if anyone should put a stop to Ardos' unfinished plans, it is definitely Michael. I would have Michael grow up to be 17 years old just like Wes in Colosseum, with Jovi being about 13 years old. Rather than choosing which character to play, the story would be divided into parts so that we would be able to advance the story in turns with each one of them. One possible way to do this would be to have Jovi explore an expanded Orre map and allocate Michael to another region (say, the unrevealed region where Rui came from). By the end of the game, Michael and Jovi's journeys would converge and we would get to play as both of them simultaneously via tag battles (to this end, it would be optional to have one character's team be controlled by the AI).

One of the plot devices in the game would be finding out how Michael and Jovi's father died and figuring out the connection to Cipher's past and current plans. As for Ardos and what would be called the third Shadow incident, the threat would be far greater than in the previous games due to there being an army of XD Pokémon, of which XD001 would be a prototype. In other words, several Pokémon would be given unique designs in this game, to the point where normal Shadow Pokémon might be foregone entirely. To make things harder, the Purify Chamber would no longer be usable, but there would still be a alternative purification method to Agate Forest's Relic. At the same time, wild Pokémon would flourish in Orre (foreshadowed in XD), as well as in the new region.

The final challenge in the story would be a tag battle with both players against Wes and Rui. Ideally, the setup for this would distinguish the event from the Red battle in the Johto games. By that I mean that the characters would actually be involved in the story without being seen until the very end.

The starters and legendaries are a little hard to predict without knowing what Generation V has in store. I'm assuming that Leafeon and Glaceon will remain the newest Eeveelutions just as Espeon and Umbreon did in Generation III, and I'm in favor of giving Michael a Leafeon by default. This would be reflected in references to the canon XD story, where Michael kept his Eevee unevolved until he found some method similar to Sinnoh's Moss Rock. As for Jovi, unless Plusle and Minun were to receive new evolutions, I would find it best if she left them at home and started her journey with a Glaceon said to have evolved from another Eevee inherited from her father. If Plusle and Minun did receive new evolutions, though, Jovi would have those two and Michael would have Glaceon in addition to Leafeon.

If Game Freak were to give Regigigas a second ability and yet made it uncatchable in the Generation V games, that would make it a very appealing candidate for the mascot of the game. This is because the Regigigas transferred from the Generation IV games would of course retain the inferior Slow Start ability. The Regis would make for good XD minions, as well, especially since even now they are unavailable outside the GBA versions and a movie promotion. Legendary Pokémon from DPPt would also be good options. I would also like to see Lugia again, but not as part of Michael's permanent team; it might come back just to assist him in the battle against Ardos, which would mirror XD001 being summoned by Greevil to fight off Michael.

Interesting plot idea (as usual), but it's hard to imagine GenSon doing any of that. And again, on a personal note, I'm bored of Orre - it was never incredibly interesting as a region to begin with, however well-done the rest of the games were. With GenSon's amazing sense visual and audial aesthetics, I'd like to see a much more lush and varied region for them to work their magic on.

But the one thing I am essentially certain of is that it won't be a repeat of PBR. They got blasted hard from that decision, and they've had a ton of time since then to develop a full RPG - all they've released since PBR came out in Japan 3 years ago was the Dragon Quest game (which they shared) two collections of books formatted for DS.

^^Very nice, but Ardos turned into a good guy at the end of XD. So did Greevil and his brother. I believe the only still evil guy is Evice.

Thanks for the positive input.

Ardos was the only one who didn't change his stripes by the end of the story. He wanted Greevil to blow up Citadark Isle with Michael still on it (and the rest of Cipher) just so that he and his father could escape and continue their plans elsewhere. Since he just walked up and left after Eldes pleaded with Greevil to turn himself to the authorities, it can be assumed that he is still at large.

As for Evice, I would expect to see him make a return, as well. But it would have to contribute to the plot in some way; we already know that Greevil was the real head of Cipher.

I can understand that to a certain extent, but I would expect both Orre and a new region to be in the game. Now, there are still parts of Orre's map we haven't seen, and the region could quite easily become a lush environment by simply incorporating Shaymin into the plot.

Yeah, I've always wondered what happened with Ardos (that's the blue-haired guy). He seems to be the only one who is not disuaded from continuing their plans of world domination (lol, almost like Cyrus I just noticed.... and ironically, they have blue hair...). That, and he's pressumably still not caught by the authorities like everybody else, along with maybe a few Peons left.

As was mentioned earlier, yes, the should make the region a little better than Orre, like give it a little more variety as far as climates 'n stuff go. And maybe put in a few more cities, and it'd be nice if some of them were a little bigger.

I've always wondered about where Rui is from also.... maybe the Gen V region? If not and she's from some other region, maybe have that as the possible region for a new RPG.

RPG for Wii plz

Also update ranch for the rest of the world, along with a Gen V patch.

we already know that Greevil was the real head of Cipher.

The game has never said that. That cop just wonders wether he replaced Evice or was the actual head of Cipher. It just gives us two possibilites. I think he just replaced Evice, else the plot in Colosseum just would make less sense. Everything becomes more logical if Greevil just replaced Evice after he went to jail (Colosseum admins not wanting a new boss and quit in XD, and how after Evice got arrested in Colosseum they all just went roaming the under colosseum instead of ordering a higher boss, which thus probably wasn't there).

We all know that won't happen. Instead, they'll release a brand new Box for the GenV games. Patchs are free. Games aren't, thus they'll release a new "game" for storing Pokémon. Money, dear boy.

Anyways, I'm unsure what to expect from Genius Sonority now. Both Colosseum, XD and PBR received poor ratings and critical reception, so I think they won't do a game in those terms; therefore, I predict something different. I'd like to see a 3D Ranger or Dungeon game for the Wii as the main console game for this generation. I know it won't happen, but I'll receive it gladly.

However, an XD secuel would be fine as long as they continue the traditon of letting us migrate our Pokémon there and see our handheld party take life in 3D.

Colosseum/XD and PBR were panned for different reasons, though, and within the fandom (what they're mostly likely to look at) Colosseum and XD met with much more enthusiasm and success than PBR did. So I wouldn't count out an RPG game like C/XD, though hopefully with a new key mechanic - I liked how the Shadow Pokémon thing played out, but two games using them is enough.

No comments on my idea of being able to play as two characters? I thought of it as an innovative way to do alter the formula, taking Colosseum's example of focusing on Double Battles rather than on Single Battles.

I can only think of one acceptable explanation for why we couldn't select the player's gender in Colosseum and XD: Genius Sonority wanted to have a cohesive canon storyline. In other words, they wanted the NPCs to talk to Wes and Michael rather than to some generic person of undetermined gender.

I think that when they added Jovi's character to XD, they might have already considered an eventual sequel, which is why there were multiple references throughout the games to Jovi's plans to be like her brother. They might have also considered XD as an extensive prologue to Michael's story as a late teen, which is something that Wes lacked (we were told very little about his past in Team Snagem and nothing about how he met Umbreon and Espeon).

Granted, I could be giving Genius Sonority more credit than they deserve, which is a fear that PBR reinforced in me. But I really don't see them giving us an option to select the player character's gender and stick with that for the entire story, nor do I see them keeping the female lead (Rui and to a lesser extent Jovi) in the background. Dividing the story between two characters and then integrating their collective accomplishments via tag battles, would be an ideal solution in my eyes. It would also lend the story a certain sense of direness in that there would be tasks to do in two regions at the same time.

Colosseum's recepetion was just fine; XD was acknowledged by critics as the better game but suffered due to coming out for the same generation and system as its predecessor.

Only a game with standard battling options can be considered as the main console game. At its core, Pokémon is about battling.

As two characters would be interesting, especially if it were an unexpected thing where you were suddenly thrown into a tough double battle and had to figure out how to make these two separate teams you'd built work together.

And I dunno, I'd always thought of Jovi's purpose being just the same as Rui's - she's the secondary character that does the talking for the silent protagonist.

But unlike Rui, Jovi wasn't around for the entire game. She only followed Michael early on at Dr. Kaminko's Manor and in Gateon Port.

Yeah, but while she was there, that was her role. (aside from providing a few excuses to advance the plot, such as the altercation in Gateon when she bumped into that guy with the Zangoose). I wouldn't read too much into the fact that she said she wanted to be a Pokémon Trainer when she gets older - what little kid in these games doesn't say that?

There will be a wii game. Gen 2 also had n64 games.
I hope it is a RPG, mainly a XD sequel.

I can't really think of examples. Some of the kids in the main series games fawn over celebrities, but none of them have actually said to the player that they want to be like them and save the day. Jovi wants to be like Michael.

There isn't anything else I can say about Jovi because she hasn't done anything yet. However, I think it would be a shame if there were a new male protagonist replacing Michael; we have yet to see him be grown up like Wes, and with this kind of game, there would more to do with an established story than with a clean new slate. Now, should Michael be brought back, Jovi would make for a better partner than a random new female character. It would also be interesting to see the sibling dynamic with Jovi no longer depending on her brother, but still working together at some point.
