Wild Pokémon Editor DS [WPEDS]

This tool lets you edit the wild Pokémon in the Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl.

Todo:
  • Make it faster?! [It loads pretty slow on an 'slow' computer]
  • Do something so you don't need to save for every route?
  • Make an other icon :cheesy:
  • Do something about the layout?
  • Make the Route list a lil' nicer
Bugs:
  • Please, tell me! I did not test my tool. l0l XD

Ok, basically this is a tool I made to edit the wild Pokémon in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl.
Maybe some of you know the 'ROM Hacking scene'?

Anyway, I my research for this tool, I needed a website where the Pokémon where displayed per route..
For some routes, the wiki was THE PLACE TO BE, but.. sometimes it couldn't help me at all.
I needed to use three sites at the same time to get clear information.

Now the tool is finished, you wiki-guys could maybe use it to get your information?
Uff, maybe you guys don't need it at all.. but sometimes the Morning/Day/Night Pokémon where pretty confusing for some routes..!

That's great. I've used one of these for all the previous games but not for D/D yet. I assume you need the Roms and emulator?

So what information, exactly, do you need us to improve? And Magnedeth's right... the first part of your post reads too much like an advertisement, although I can see why it belongs in this section.

How would this read like an advertisement?
I nowhere refer to an other website or something =S

Anyway.. To use this you'll need the ROM, yes.
Actually, you only need 2 NARC files from the ROM, the d_enc_data.narc (for Diamond) and the p_enc_data.narc (for Pearl).
What I want you guys to improve is, well.. for example; Route 204
There's only Morning, Day, Night and Special..
The game uses the structure seen in WPEDS (from left to right and from top to bottom)
So, why don't you guys follow the game's structure ;)
MEH.. structure isn't THAT important. But, an other example: Route 207.
Only Geodude is categorized under 'All time'; which is wrong.
Kricketot and Machop ASLO appear all time.. though, there will appear more Machop during day.

I dunno, if people/moderators don't like this thread, remove it..

PS:
What are Swarm Pokémon EXACTLY? When (using Route 207 as an example again) I check the Swarm Pokémon on the wiki, I see 'Phanpy' is a swarm Pokémon..
In my editor, Phanpy is programmed to appear only during Morning..
Is this a big error in my encounter data structure or do I just not understand all this 'swarm' bloebla?

I hardly think this is advertising. If this is advertising then maybe posting a picture of your team in your sig should be called advertising aswell. [sarcasm]

Anyway, i'm going to give this a go sometime, it looks pretty simple to use.

....Your signature is your own place. Of course you can advertise there. >_>

This is indeed advertising.

He is actually asking for input into the project and offering it to the people that run the wiki in order to note the encounters more effectively. But the mods here seem to differ on what spam is so we will probably all receive warnings and this thread will get closed down.

Thanks Smeargle and Gardevoir13!
Smeargle is right btw, I don't understand why this would be advertising?
Anyway, I don't care.. If a moderator doesn't like this thread, he/she can close it.
I made this tool for the Pokémon ROM Hacking scene, and when I was doing research for this tool, I often used Bulbapedia's Wiki as a reference to check if my Route-list was correct.
Like I already said, the wiki didn't describe the Pokémon on some routes very good.. (Time based/surfing/fishing Pokémon)

I just tought, the guys from the wiki could use this tool to improve their data :(

It's also promoting the use of roms and emulators...which are illegal.

Ok, so first I'm advertising and now I'm promoting ROMs and Emulators?
What is wrong with you? I nowhere promoted ROMs or Emulators.. Btw, emulators are NOT illegal and ROM's legal status differ per country.

If you don't appreciate what I made, just close/delete this (or ask someone to do it).

First of all, emulators are not illegal. The ROMs are, though. However, it is legal if you own the game to copy the ROM from your own game to a computer, as long as the original and backup always stay in the same hands. This copy would function exactly like a ROM. No video game maker can deny you this right, even by placing a notice in the manual. Sure, they can void the warranty, but games rarely malfunction. However, it is illegal to download a ROM from the Internet even if you own the game. In other words, the only legal copy of a video game is the one you make yourself. Secondly, it is of the same legality as posting the sprites from the games on Bulbapedia. If you don't want to use this tool for the wiki, then delete all of the game screenshots and sprites at once.

It comes off as advertising because your initial post is more about expounding the virtues of your program than how those virtues can be used to the wiki's benefit.

Swarm Pokémon appear in large numbers in an area under certain conditions. Sorry I can't be more helpful, but I haven't played any games since Gen II. In those games, at least, a trainer would call you on the cell phone to inform you of a swarm. Some Pokémon, like Dunsparce or Yanma, were very rare unless caught during a swarm.

It's not that I'm making money of it.. XD
Anyway, I just copied and pasted the first part from an other forum.

Btw, StarBP is 100% right.
How do you think all those sprites and screens where made?
By ripping them, using a ROM and Emulator/ImageEditor.
If you use that kind of 'data', why won't you use this to get encounter data?

Ufff.. I don't want to start a flamewar, cause it's starting to look like one with some people PRO and some CONTRA..
You guys decide whether or not you'll use it. That's all I have to say.

Kricketot and Machop ASLO appear all time.. though, there will appear more Machop during day.

Only Geodude is categorized in "All times" because it's the only one that doesn't vary.

Anyway, this did seem to start off kinda adlike, but really, anyone offering their ability to help with something could sound like that. He's not like "LOOK @ MAH POKE'MON FOURM PLZ :D :D :D :D"...

As for promoting the use of ROMs and emulators... well, eh, then why do we even allow for the mention of Pokésav on Pedia, let alone have an article? It's not really promoting them, just saying "Well, you kinda gotta use them to do so." More like a "Yeah, they exist." sort of thing than a "HEY LOOK U KAN DOWNLODE ROMZ AND EMUS HEER!!".

Maybe that's just my opinion. He didn't say "LOL GO GET DEEPEE ROMZ". He said "These things can hack the games". And yeah, we do use ROMs to get the Pokémon screens, encounter rates pre-DP, and so on. But hey, so does Nintendo, otherwise they couldn't, you know, program the games in the first place.

It's also promoting the use of roms and emulators...which are illegal.

Roms are only illegal if you don't legally own them game. Most people here own the game and its not promoting the use of them. I don't know what everyone's problem is, he's just sharing his work, in no way advertising.

It's not that I'm making money of it.. XD

I know. But fanfic writers don't make money off their work, either, yet we have a tendency to advertise every chance we get. It's more about the attention than anything else.

Or at least, it would be, if this really were advertising. Which I don't believe it is.

Anyway, I probably won't be able to make much use of this tool, but I'm sure the others can. Thanks for offering it.
