Will Ash and Dawn's starters evolve all the way like Ash and May's?

This is how AG ended:

Do you think we'll see Ash with Torterra and Dawn with Empolean by the end of D/P?

I hope not for Piplup. It's one that's really too cute to evolve, and it's evolved forms aren't that appealing. I don't expect any of Dawn's to evolve, really, unless she gets Aipom.

A lot of people would say the same for the Gen. III starters... didn't stop them.

I'd say there's a good chance that Turtwig will evolve. ^_^

I'm not sure if it will evolve all the way, but I know that it will most likely evolve. Because most of Ash's grass starters evolved at least once (except for Bulbasaur, of course).

Turtwig could evolve, but i'm not sure about Piplup. Especialy since Dawn said that she doesn't want Piplup to evolve.

I betting Turtwig and Paul's Chimchar evolve around the same time, and reach the final forms by Ash and Paul's Sinnoh League Battle.

I can see Dawn with Prinplup, however. I think it's cute.

I can see Hikozaru and Naetle evolving, but not Pochama. Especially if Kengo does reappear. The way Pochama and Pottaishi acted, it seemed like a Kanto region rivaling. Yanno "my pokemon can beat you just the way it is, it doesn't need to evolve!"

Dawn actually said she didn't want Piplup to evolve? What episode was this?

It was episode 26.When Kengo asked Dawn whetever she will evolve Piplup, she said that she won't becouse she thinks that Piplup is cuter that way.

Hm, that does sound a lot like Ash and Pikachu then.

I don't know, I always thought Piplup would evolve all the way like Torchic did. And now with Buizel on her team, won't Piplup feel like its being "left out" if Dawn starts using it more than Piplup?

I'm thinking that a Prinplup would be more on par strength wise with Buizel than a Piplup, and I don't see the writers letting Piplup being outstaged.

Not really.Take for example Pikachu and Charizard.Ever since Charizard became obedient to Ash,he became one of his strongest pokemon.Yet Pikachu didn't needed to evolve to Raichu to be on par strength wise with Charizard. The same could be with Piplup and Buizel.

Maybe Piplup evolves and Dawn acts all disappointed, so Prinlup starts to disobey her? Or is one rebellious pokemon enough?

Piplup did defeat Kengo's Prinplup. It is a lot like Bulbasaur in its strength in the beginning form. The first Kengo episode really looked like the writers were foreshadowing Piplup not evolving. It isn't as convincing as some other noted possibilities but if Kengo is recurring then he will be able to give the other forms of the line their coverage. Don't worry about Buizel overshadowing Piplup, anyway. It will probably appear a little less than Dawn's starter in the long run.

Turtwig is less of a question. I definately see it evolving and would love to see Ash have its final form.

What sense of achievement or growth will Dawn's team have if none of them ever evolve?

I can't see Buneary evolving because it's too cute and marketable, Pachirisu can't, and Buizel is strong enough as it is, that she'd be practically unbeatable if she ever had a Floatzel so I don't know if that'll happen. Why leave Piplup in its first form ever?

When AG began many people never believed Torchic would ever evolve, despite the fact that it was a weakling in battle and May barely ever used it, but then the writers surprised us with Combusken in mid-Hoenn and Blaziken right before the end.

Why leave Dawn with the same group of unevolved Pokemon throughout her entire run? She has mostly all cute Pokemon aside from Buizel, why not even it up with Prinplup and Buizel in the lead followed by two plushies like Pachirisu and Buneary?

Its almost like the writers are stating that the females leads MUST have a team of cute Pokemon, and they're not allowed to have evolved form ever.

Since when did evolution became synonym of growth and achievment?

That's right.Torchic had to evolve since it was too weak.Piplup is different. It is able to hold it's own in battle.

You have something aganist cute pokemon? Dawn herself doesn't look like someone who would like to evolve her starter.

May and Dawn both participate in contests whose are all about looks and fancy attacks. So it's natural that they are given cute pokemon.

Scott, for someone who thinks May is such a perfect character I'm surprised at how you underrate most of her team. The cute Pokémon have shown as much battling ability in contests as Combusken did. And, as I mentioned, Piplup has already defeated a Prinplup so it will be able to get by perfectly fine even if it doesn't evolve.

And since you think Buizel will be her Combusken, it can happily evolve and Piplup won't be needed for the role.

^ Buizel is already pretty powerful though, don't you think a Floatzel would be overkill?

Dawn herself doesn't look like someone who would like to evolve her starter.

Dawn has no control over whether her Piplup evolves or not anyway.

^How is Dawn having a Floatzel more overkill that having both Prinplup AND Buizel?

Becuase Buizel is already powerful enough to beat Piplup, Nozomi's Glameow and Ash's Pikachu all in a row without breaking a sweat.

It's a VERY powerful Pokemon, and it makes you wonder why the writers gave this to Dawn so early on in the saga. If Buizel ever evolves, Dawn would be almost unbeatable except against really strong trainers.

Remember that these are contests battles. Buizel will not get by on strength alone and will fully rely on Dawn's skills to show its potential.

Also, Dawn will be facing strong coordinators in the battle rounds. It will be a long time before she is at the level of a Ribbon Cup winner, evolved Buizel or not.
