As we know, Paul considers Ash to be a pathetic trainer. Yet there is something that intrigues him. The two moments where this has been most apparent both involve the same Pokémon:
-In DP3, Paul initially snubs Ash off but then becomes interested when he hears of a Pokémon knowing Volt Tackle. After seeing the wrekage to the mecha, he follows Ash to Professor Rowan's lab where he actively asks for a battle. He then asks if Pikachu is the one who knows Volt Tackle when it enters the battle.
-In DP16, Paul decides that watching Ash battle isn't worth his time any more. But seeing Pikachu's reaction to the situation makes him interested enough to sit back down and watch the rest of the battle.
With this interest in Pikachu in mind, it would be interesting to see Paul offer a trade.
Of course, Ash would never actually trade a Pokémon to Paul, of all people, let alone his bestest buddy in the whole world. And it wouldn't even be what the Pokémon wants in this case since Pikachu hates Paul more than Ash does.
Maybe Team Rocket could try using that to their advantage or something.
