As a guy who more or less jumped out of the anime ship right before BW started. I must say that XY Ash along with this season in general has been a really nice mix up like actually giving him a fully evolved Water Starter amongst other things. That said XY though highly praised in the West is actually getting quite the opposite reaction in Japan.reaction reaction. It seems that the Japanese viewers have finally adopted the other view that the Anime series is a Franchise Zombie and are bored of it which is really tragic. So with all this in mind do you think Ash will win the KL especially since it's the 20th anniversary? If they have him lose again this will end terribly on both sides of the fandom. Moreover what could they do with Ash that they haven't already done with him in this series? TPC and Nintendo cares about their JP the most so can we expect a positive outcome or will this experience be the most sour taste the anime has given us?

No, Ash will lose again. It is a constant pattern for him to lose the pokemon league of each region. Orange Islands and Battle Frontier are the only exceptions. Ash would probably land top 4 or lower in the Kalos league because I don't see him going any higher or all the way.

I fear for the worst then . This won't end well

It's very possible this will be the last season: either of the show or of Ash. So it is possible.

I don't see the point of maturing his character and giving him a special anime exclusive pokemon form if he's not going to win the league.

If he's going to lose they might as well put the same effort in XY(Z) as they did for Best Wishes.

So I'll be the positive one here and say he will win the league this time around.

I thought its always been said that the series would end if Ash was to win a league, according to the writers. Obviously its a bad excuse as there's still the Elite 4 and Champion, but winning shouldn't mean his journey is over. In a region, yes, unless he does battle the Elite 4 and Champion.

He'll obviously lose as usual, at best making Top 4 although I personally wouldn't celebrate even if he accomplishes that.

How do you know this?

Why would this be the last series in general? There are going to be more Pokemon games, so they'd want more series of the anime to promote them. As for Ash, he's staying. Whether people like it or not, Ash isn't going to go anywhere. If they were interested in getting rid of Ash, they would have none so ages ago, not nearly twenty years later.

As for the questions at hand, no. Ash is not going to win the Kalos League. I think that he is a much better trainer than he was in BW and the majority of his Gym battles are good, but he still doesn't give me the impression that he's that strong. He still isn't at his peak like he was in DP in terms of overall skill. While the match against Olympia was one of the best Gym battles in XY, it didn't wow me that much, although Pikachu keeping time with the Future Sight on the sidelines also kind of bothered me and brought the battle down.

Besides that, his team could really use some improvements, mainly with Noibat actually doing something and getting a sixth Pokemon. At this point, Ash only has four battle ready Pokemon instead of a full team. His other teams weren't perfect and his DP team could have benefited from giving Grotle/Torterra something to do as well, but this team doesn't make me think he's going to take the gold, even with Ash-Greninja being a thing.

Depending on how they handle Noibat, it's eventual evolution and the sixth slot, I could see Ash getting to the Top 4 again at best. He doesn't have a big rival figure that would make getting there really meaningful beyond Ash just doing well in the Kalos League, but with his skill level, it wouldn't feel forced. A part of me wouldn't be surprised if he ended up in the Top 8 again, but I don't think that they'll pull that stunt again, at least not right after the Unova League.

I agree like anyone else Ash might end up in the Top 4 again like in Sinnoh maybe because he could catch & evolve few more Pokémon.

What about an even crazier twist??? Ash loses in the first round. Haha, just kidding this wouldn't happen, but it would be a good way for the series to be less predictable, especially after the set up of how good his Kalos team is.

I want him to win and then 20th anniversary of Anime could be champions league/celebrate and revisit old characters and then have a new protagonist gen 7, but that is just a dream. Probably the same type thing will continue to happen like everyone thinks and he will just be top 4, heck I could even see top 2, but not going to win.

Neither is possible. Ash is a character that fans can relate to or recognize and the show would keep running as long as people continue to watch it. Ash isn't going to win Kalos league or any other league in my opinion.

He probably isn't going to win at Kalos, but you can't say he's never gonna win a league. He has to win sometime. When that time finally comes when Satoshi Tajiri, Junichi Masuda, and Gamefreak decides to retire the game series, Ash obviously has to win. Fans would be outraged if Ash never won a league by the end of Pokemon.

Just what is the writers' beef with him? Why do they keep making him lose every league? What, are they afraid that if he somehow beats the champion, he'll keep the title and stop going on journeys?

He's going to lose the League for sure, the same way Sana will most likely beat Serena to become Kalos Queen. I've been watching this show far too long to expect anything else. :p

Ash will lose no doubt; what I do doubt is the series ending here. Nintendo hasn't directly said what their next Pokémon (main series) game will be, so we'll wait and see. The most likely thing is, XY will either continue until the next main series game or they'll go back to Hoenn and go through ORAS.

(Not to mention he released Goodra, a fully evolved Pokémon...)
