While Bianca will probably continue in the anime because of the games, what do you make of the other rivals from BW1? Do you think the writers will focus on them at all in the new saga? I assume they would all be dropped after the Unova league ended, but it seems like we're going to BW2 stuff before the league.

The recent episodes makes it seem like Georgia and Burungly are getting a last bit of spotlight, while Trip is seemingly going to be replaced by a new rival soon.

Re: Will Trip/Burungly/Georgia/Stephen continue into BW2?

Yes, why shouldn't they?? They're all in Unova and it doesn't look like the writers are ready to let them go just yet

It's possible. I kinda hope so. I like it when Pokemon has a rotating cast of colorful crazies.

If All this stuff is before the league, then no, but if its after, then i could see them getting rid of trip and stephan, but maybe keeping iris and cilans rivals hanging around

Seems to me the writers have acknowledged how poorly received Trip's character was in the series and want to replace him.

I guess that's what happens when you try to make a blander version of the rival that came right before him.

It doesn't seem to me that either Langley or Cabernet have been sucked dry of usefulness at this point. Langley prides herself on being a Dragon Buster, but how many dragons has she busted? 2, and I don't even think Kibago should count. She needs more chances to bust some more dragons and prove that she's as good as she thinks she is.

Cabernet wants to 1) be a better Sommelier than Dento, and 2) beat Dento. Neither of which she has done. So she definitely needs more time to either decide that she would rather just be a trainer instead of a trainer-Sommelier or she needs to at least accomplish one of her two goals. Her character would be incomplete unless she got that much, at least.

As for Kenyan, well, he won his tournament and I don't recall that he had much more of a goal than just to beat everyone, so I think his purpose is fulfilled. Shooti I just plum forget exists half the time so I don't particularly care what happens to him.

With the prize of the World Tournament Junior Cup being able to face Adeku, I can't see them getting rid of Shooty. Its almost as if that was made for him in mind.

I don't see them getting rid of Bel either, for the reason mentioned earlier of her being in the games.

Regarding Langley and Carbarnet, I think the reason why we're getting them in episodes just before season 2 starts is that we won't be seeing for them a little while and they don't want us to forget them. With Meloetta, Sakaki, Hikari, etc it seems like the season will be quite packed and so I don't think either rival will appear in the first quarter.

Kenyan... I don't really see what he has to offer sadly. I think if a rival is to be dumped/written out, it's him.

Trip is not going anywhere - new rivals aren't replacing the older ones... Ash already has more than one rivals... Bianca being his rival didn't erase Trip from existence and when Stephan arrived it didn't kill Trip and Bianca
Trip is CLEARLY, the "Paul" of this series... he's the main rival of Best Wishes and it's too late to change this

This is how I think this might happen:

During the Unova League:
Ash will beat both Bianca and Stephan, if he even needs to face them at all...
Ash will either lose to Trip or not face him at all, probably lose...
If Burgundy/Georgia/the "new rival" gets in the League too, either he won't face them or he'll beat them

After the League:
Bianca will follow her game self and turn into Juniper's assistant
Stephan will probably disappear
Burgundy and Georgia can either end their story and disappear too or maybe stay around so Iris and Cilan will still have something to do (though it really doesn't give them too much at the moment, to be honest...)

Trip and the "new rival" will stay for the next saga, which by that I mean whatever new journey Ash will start after the Unova League
"new rival" will appear more often than Trip, while Trip will still clearly be the "main" rival - similarly to how Drew and Harley were treated during AG's BF saga
And similarly to AG's BF saga, it's only at the very end of the whole BW series, that Ash will finally beat Trip and end his rivalry with him

I'm actually slightly hoping Langley is the cause for the angry Kairyuu. She tries to bust it, or Sazandra, or both and it all goes horribly wrong and they rampage. Then that way she might be able to see Iris' non-battling side of working to be a Dragon Master.

- Trip: He is hellbent on wanting to battle Alder, and wants to prove Alder wrong by using strength in his battles. I really do believe that Trip's time to shine will be in this World Cup arc. Assuming that the other members of the Unova E4 appear here as well, I can see him interacting with Marshall, who seems to value strength like he does. I don't think that the writers will replace him with any rival.
- Burgundy: She'll probably stay in BW2 as long as the Pokemon Connoisseur theme continues to be used.
- Georgia: She seems to be Iris's main rival, and there are at least two wild Dragon-type pokemon appearing in BW2. Besides, Cynthia is appearing with her Garchomp, so it is very possible that Georgia might strive to battle her.
- Stephan: He seems to be the most likely character to be replaced assuming that the writers do plan on a replacement. Stephan has already won a tournament, and I don't think the writers can keep up with his "name pronounced wrong" shtick that they had stuck on to the character. Still, there is no denying that he is a powerful opponent, and a very likely opponent for Ash to compete in another tournament. Stephan is a battle-oriented trainer and it is very unlikely that the writers will drop him from existence with this World Tournament going on.

For most cases, I don't see why they wouldn't carry on to the next series.

(I want Burgundy to meet Dawn and "evaluate" her team and tell her they're all horrible, especially Piplup XD)

But in all seriousness, most of these rivals have hardly had opportunities to truly shine. For most of them, we've seen more of them (both as characers and trainers/what-have-you) in the Don tournaments than their own individual episodes; it would be a shame to ditch most of them now. Burgundy deserves to carry on due to her entertainment factor alone; her thing with Cilan is a bonus. Plus I wanna see if she stick to her Sommeliering or if she ultimately becomes a trainer again. If we lose Georgia, we lose the only source of canon that acknowledges Iris being a fuck-up. Not that I care for their stagnant rivalry, but it feels good having SOME form of canon telling us that Iris is Doing it Wrong, even indirectly. But Georgia's awesome on her own anyway, and she feels like she's far from being done, so she should also carry on and keep being awesome no matter how much her rival drags her down.

Bianca's obviously going to stick around, being based on a game character who is confirmed to be in the sequels that the anime has their marketing focus on. Hopefully Donamite was not a fluke and Bianca will be a much improved trainer as the series goes on. I'd like Dawn to meet her, too. There could be potential for some nice character development, as Dawn's no stranger to the concept of losing a lot of battles and dealing with self-esteem issues... so I would actually really like to see that happen.

Stephan... who knows. I still think he's been made out to be more of a "main rival" than Trip has at this point, which really says a lot considering Stephan's a lower-tier rival and character who's plagued with an awful running gag. It would be weird to suddenly dump the character after he won a tournament, though. I could see him continuing on, though at what capacity I dunno since his potential is a bit limited in my opinion.

If it weren't for the Alder factor in this world tournament, I would think Trip would be dropped entirely here. His character serves absolutely no purpose (Ash's motivation to battle him does not differ in the least from his motivation to battle any trainer he sees in the series) and they've done jack with his character despite all the opportunities that were offered to build on from the Alder episode and the two instances of him getting eliminated from the Don battles early on. He's supposed to be the "main" rival, but is there really anything to Trip that makes him stand out above all the other rivals we have in BW? Even a good number of the one-shot rivals we've seen prove to be more interesting than Trip.

With a new rival for Ash waiting in the wings, I'm hoping that A) Trip gets eliminated from the tournament in the first round again and that's the last we'll ever see of him, B) He either wins the chance to battle Alder, gets defeated within seconds, and exits the series saying he needs to get stronger before he can face Alder again, or C) faces Ash in the finals, loses, and does what I described in B, or D) new rival debuts, wipes the floor with Trip in the tournament, and we never hear from Trip again because this new guy proves to be the REAL main rival of the show.

But since BW's an expert in crushing my dreams, I'm sure none of the above will happen and Trip will continue to be a waste of space and eat up time the better rivals and new rival should be having instead.

Those are my nasty postulations.

That's what I think as well. I kinda feel that we'll see them next right before the League, around the eight gym when Satoshi and co get closer to Souryou City to set them up as participants.

Kenyan... I don't really see what he has to offer sadly. I think if a rival is to be dumped/written out, it's him.

I think he'll be in the League, but I don't see him appearing until then.

If there's one rival already-introduced rival other than Shooti who'll appear in Eastern Unova, I think it'd be Bel. And omg, her and Dawn must meet. That would just be awesome.

He either wins the chance to battle Alder

I wouldn't be surprised if it does happen. I think Trip will think that Adeku is a joke and he'll think he'll win easily only to have Adeku destroy him, because he's missing the inevitable quality that Satoshi got and that he'll learn when Satoshi defeats him the League.

I don't see how this tournament was made for Trip, he is new in the world of Pokemon hasn't really prooven himself yet why he should be with the top dogs. If was in this he'd get knocked out the first round right off, in the past tournaments he was horrible at them heck even lost to other main characters rivals and well thats sad. I'm not seeing a good future for him, I would like for him to get jealous of Ash getting a new rival though, that'd be funny as heck. Langley and Carbarbet are very popular in Japan so I can see them sticking around for a while longer, at least till they figure out what to do next. Bel is in the new games, I hope as some one else said that she comes back better than she was previously, she was doing pretty good in the last tournament so thats a sign of things to come for her. I'm really not sure about Trip again, hes not the most popular of the Best Wishes rivals or any of Ash's rivals in the past, well other than maybe that Ash clone from Kanto blah. It could go either way with this guy, he could get kicked out and replaced and I don't know if any one other than some Trip fans would care, they really didn't do much with Ash and Trip's rivalry so.

As long as Kenyan continue in the anime, I don't care about the others, specially Shooty.

Wait.. Isn't the tournament you win that gets you the chance to face Alder the same one Cynthia and Caitlin are in? If so. How the hell would we expect Shoot to win it? He'd get Garchomp'd right out of it..

Anyways. I see nothing good that can come out of Shooti. So I think they're better off slowly writing out his character into the void created by the GS Ball.

As to Langley and Burgundy. Despite their current goals being..rather pointless, they're amusing characters. I can only see taking them into their characters in the route of "realization" is the only way to go. Them eventually admitting their wrong and what not. Though that'd be kinda cliche I think.. Eh, not ruling out that development for their characters can turn out to be possible and surprising, but I just can't think of anything else.

Ah, I forget Kenyan! Eh..I never saw the point of him. He at least also has the amusing factor. His rival roll somewhat reminds me of Barry's...but that never went anywhere. I don't see another purpose for Kenya than to be amusing, silly and a run of the mill League styled rival for Ash. Well, that's already more than I can say for Shooti..

The prize made for him in mind. You know, how he wanted to challenge Adeku, nearly got the chance to back in Adeku's episode and didn't?

well i hope stephen and georgia are the only two to continue. i think these two characters have the best Rival characteristics to make reapaering more worthwile in future episodes because they are more batlle orienteated and higher up in the brains department. bianca could stay if she was more focused as a comic relife character

I really want to see a lot more of Cabernet. I also do like Trip and Langley. I'm hoping they continue throughout the anime.

I highly doubt that any of them are going anywhere. Cabernet and Langley are Dent and Iris' rivals. Kenyan is probably like Conway, collecting gym badges, but won't be revealed that he was until the league. Shooti and Bel are Ash's main rivals, and they don't disappear until a new region. Btw, a lot of people say Shooti is a Paul copy, but the only thing they really have in common is a similar hairystyle, and tendency to look down on Ash, which is a common trait amongst rivals in general. Paul is cruel to his pokemon and looks down on everyone in general. Shooti while he doesn't show like ash, isn't cruel to his pokemon, he in a different kind of way compliments them, and is constantly taking pictures of them. He also is willing to help out, and Ash is the only one he's looked down on because he thinks he's a hick. Plus Shooti similar to Ash actually shows that he is a ten-year old kid.

They should do in a different way than, Trip doesn't deserve to get this far in a tournament with a bunch of pros, hes too new. Let the guy travel around a bunch of regions and be in a bunch of leagues first than come back and will see. Trip hasn't even been in one league yet =/
